LESSON PLAN IN ENGLISH 10

I. Objectives
At the end of the lesson, the students will be able to:
 Use quotation marks or hanging indentations for direct quotes (EN10SS-IIId-1.6.6)

III. Procedure
A. Motivation
GAME: Telephone Guess Who
The class will be divided into five groups with six members. Each group will arrange the
chairs vertically forming a line. The teacher will show a quotation to the students in front and ask
them to memorize it in 30 seconds. The first person in each group shall pass the quote to the next
person at the back, then passing it respectively to the person until the end. The first group to
relay the message correctly and guess the person who said the famous quote shall garner a point.
Quotes: “I shall return.” – Douglas McArthur
“Filipinos are worth dying for.” – Ninoy Aquino
“I am the way, the truth, and the life.” – Jesus Christ
“I have a dream.” – Martin Luther King Jr.
B. Lesson Proper
1. Show two comic strips and ask volunteers to read and act the dialogue of the
characters. Give students five minutes to rehearse. Ask students to present their
dramatized comic strips.
2. Share to students that in a comic strip are little speech bubbles floating around that
show what each person says. Then, direct their attention to the chart paper on which
the narrative form of the story is written.
3. Ask students if they see anything that might signal to the reader what each person is
saying. Point out quotation marks and suggest they are part of speech.
4. Discuss the proper usage of quotation marks (pp. 320-321)
5. Provide drills in the use of quotation marks.
Application:
Group the class into five and give each a comic strip. Ask them to convert the comic
strip into narrative form and write it in a manila paper. Seven minutes will be given to
complete the task. Each group shall present their work.
C. Generalization:
Ask the essential questions, “When do we use quotation marks? Why do we use them?”
