Video Case

Alex suggested adding more layers of management si that the supervision will be closer and will
result in an increase of managerial input. This shows the bureaucratic structure because it is
about the formal division of labor, hierarchy, and standardization of work procedures. Although
after a year it did not give the company the result they wanted rather it made the scenario worse
because the company was more delayed and there is an increase in turnover. Another suggestion
was the  functional structure so that they can focus on employees with their responsibilities and
tasks. This is aimed to make the work efficient because the employees who have the same skills
are grouped together. And after a year it gave them a result of the delay in product development.
It also decreased their performance and increased labor costs as well as conflict. They did not
achieve the efficiency they want. Next is applying the matrix structure by setting up a product
development team, this aims to set up project teams for more support and they have two bosses.
It is applicable to more complex activities and well-suited to their company. So that they would
correct mistakes as soon as possible, and help the company's flexibility. After a year this gave
them a positive result because it is faster and it also reduces cost in production. 

The external environment is the rapid change outside the control of the organization which
requires a more flexible structure. During the start of the video, they were left behind by their
competitor because they did not have an appropriate organizational structure that copes up with
the external environment. Alex suggested three types of organizational structures which are the
bureaucratic structure, functional structure, and matrix structure. The first two structures
suggested did not give a positive result in the company rather it decreased their performance as
well as their income, which means it does not cope up with the external environment. But the
matrix structure which was more complex gave them a positive result. It seems that it is the
structure well-suited with the company as well as the external environment. 

In my opinion, Time Toys should also look into their production technology. What type are they
using is it unit production, mass production, or continuous production? Maybe they need to
upgrade their production technology to avoid the delay in production development. The company
needs to benchmark with other companies locally and internationally how they are able to do it
efficiently and effectively. do some research what is how they will be able to adapt to the
changes because in what I've seen in the video they decide what kind of organizational structure
they want to implement without looking in the facts. Doing research first would lessen their
problems because they would see a bigger picture.
