Hello, dear learners, I am Kenneth B. Alakyang, I will be your College Instructor in PATHFIT (Physical
Activity Towards Health and Fitness). As your instructor, you can ask any questions related to our subject

kenneth@eastercollege.ph. You can also message me in my Fb account if it is urgent or emergency.

Welcome to this module on PATHFIT. This module contains your lessons and activities for 1 month. Also
this module is self-instructional and allows you to learn in your own space. So sit tight, relax and enjoy.

To make the most out of them, here are a few reminders for you to remember.

1. Read the list of the learning Objectives to get an idea of the knowledge and skills you are expected
to gain and develop as you study the module. These outcomes are based on your syllabus.
2. Each activity aims to develop one of the learning outcomes set for the module. It opens with a list
objectives that you are expected to have accomplished by the end of the lesson.
3. Read the ENGAGE part of this module for you to get an idea about our lesson in this module.
4. Take the EXPLORE part of this module to determine your knowledge of the lessons in this module.
5. All the information that you want to know is in the EXPLAIN and ELABORATE part of this module.
You only need to do is read and understand what is written there.
6. At the end of the lesson, take the EVALUATE part to find out how much you have learned. If you do
not get all the items correctly, go back to the lesson information. This will ensure your mastery of
basic information.
7. Perform the required Learning Activity, which may consist of one or more tasks for you to
accomplish. It is not enough that you acquire content or information, but you must also be able to
apply what you have learned in real life situations
8. Provide a flash drive for your teacher to save video clips or other instructional materials for
additional explanation and lesson. Some of your activity is video presentation, so you can also save
your video demonstration and submit it with your module.
9. Observe honesty and integrity in doing the tasks.
10. Finish the tasks at hand before proceeding to the next lesson.
11. Use the module with care and do not put unnecessary marks on any part of the module.

IV. COURSE DESCRIPTION:

⮚ Provides students opportunities to explore, various outdoor activities such as


camping, backpacking, hiking, trekking, mountain climbing, aquatics and etc.,
in a safe and respective manner. Students will step outside of their comfort zones
to learn firsthand the values of intelligent risk taking, perseverance and
resilience. Contributing to the development of their well-being, this outdoor
education course also teaches students about themselves as it forges strong
interpersonal relationships. In addition, students will gain greater insight,
appreciation, concern and knowledge about the outdoor environment and the
opportunities that it holds for educational, recreational and economic benefit.
V. COURSE OUTCOMES:

- At the end of the term, the would-be teachers are expected to:
1. Discuss the origin and historical development of outdoor and recreational
activities
2. Define the important concepts and terminologies used in recreational activities.
3. Identify the facilities and equipment used in outdoor and recreational activities.
4. Identify and explain the playing format and action to be used and performed during the
activity/game.
5. Discuss the knowledge, skills and attitude necessary to establish and maintain healthy
relationships.
6. Identify the competencies needed for safe participation in a variety of outdoor
experiences.
7. Develop the lifestyle strategies that nurture contact with the natural world and ways to
sustain it.

8. Engage in the development of their well-being and well-being of others through
exploration and learning in the outdoors.
9. Demonstrate an awareness and appreciation of their natural surroundings.

⮚ When you hear the word Physical education, the first thing that will come into your
mind is exercise or physical activity. What is really the definition of Physical
Education? In your P.E subject during your Senior High School, your teachers
discussed the meaning of Physical education, How about you? What is your own
definition of Physical Education? In order to appreciate Physical Education, you must
have your own definition of Physical Education.

⮚ People have different perspectives or definition of Physical Education, even the dictionary
has its own definition of Physical Education but if you are given the chance to write your own
definition of Physical Education, what would it be?

A course that teaches the students to be physically, mentally, spiritually, and


emotionally fit. This subject deals with muscle and mind activities. It focuses on
developing physical fitness and the ability to perform an activity without any
problems.

EXPLAIN
⮚ Definitions of Physical Education
● Education in the care and development of the human body, stressing athletics
and including hygiene.
● Physical education is defined as formal instruction in exercise and proper
eating.
● Instruction in physical exercise and in the care and hygiene of the human
body; esp., a course in gymnastics, athletics, etc., as in a school or college.
● An element of an educational curriculum concerned with bodily development,
strength, physical co-ordination, and agility.

ELABORATE
⮚  Physical Education is "education through the physical". It aims to
develop students’ physical competence and knowledge of movement
and safety, and their ability to use these to perform in a wide range of
activities associated with the development of an active and healthy lifestyle. It also
develops students’ confidence and generic skills, especially those of collaboration,
communication, creativity, critical thinking and aesthetic appreciation. These,

together with the nurturing of positive values and attitudes in PE, provide a good
foundation for students’ lifelong and life-wide learning.

 Physical education which includes exercise  and physical
activity are important for all ages and stages in life. In
a physically intensive profession like nursing since it
is important to look after your physical health. Keeping active
also directly influences your ability to maintain and improve
your psychological and emotional health

⮚ Explain the quote or saying “Education through the Physical”.


 The quotation simply means to develop students’ physical
competence and knowledge of movement and safety, and their
ability to use these to perform in a wide range of activities
associated with the development of an active and healthy
lifestyle. It also develops students’ confidence and generic
skills, especially those of collaboration, communication,
creativity, critical thinking and aesthetic appreciation. These,

EXPLAIN
⮚ The ALLIED Fields of Physical Education
- The allied fields of physical education and sports share many
common purposes- the development of the total individual and concern for quality
life. These areas allied to the field may vary in content of the subject matter and the
methods used in accomplishing their goals.
● Dance
- Dance activities have been something of a stepchild for physical education, for dance
hangs on the periphery of physical education( Freeman, 1997). Aesthetic expression
through movement is provided by dance.
● Health Education
- Health Education is concerned with the total well being of the individual, which
encompass physical, emotional, mental, social and spiritual health. There three areas
within health education that are also functions and goals of health education.
✔ Environmental health included within health education is concerned with
the development of healthful and safe environments for all people.
✔ Health instruction is focused in tracing the basic of healthful living to
students and the general public.
✔ Delivery of health services is concerned with developing and maintaining
a satisfactory level of health for all people.
● Recreation (Recreational Activities)
- Recreation is generally thought of as a leisure time activity. however, it has been
defined as fulfilling an educational goal of “worthy use of leisure”. It may be a self-
chosen activity that provides a means of revitalizing and refreshing one’s body and
spirit.
