Week 10 (March 14, 2020) – LISTENING AND READING SKILL

LISTENING SKILL (GRADE 8)

Competency Subject Matter Appropriate activity

 Employs projective Listening strategies Relay the message

listening strategies This classic game,
when listening to otherwise known as
descriptive and longer “running dictation,” is
narrative texts. a great active ice breaker,
as well as a natural way to
introduce a topic.

The game plan:

 Put students in pairs or

groups of three,
assigning one (or two)
as runner and one as
writer. Sit the writers at
tables at one end of the
room.
 Stick pre-printed
messages at the other
side of the room, one
for each group or pair.
These messages can be
the same or different,
easy or difficult, long or
short, depending on
the level and goals of
the class.
 When you shout the
word “go,” the runner
runs to the message,
reading and
remembering what they
can. This can be as
much as a few
sentences or as little as
one word. The aim is to
be able to relay it
accurately to the writer.
 The runner goes back
to the writer to relay
the part of the message
that they memorized.
The writer (you
guessed it!) writes it
down.
 Repeat until the
message is complete.
Teams score points for
speed but more
importantly for
accuracy of spelling
and punctuation.

films, or fables. If the
class can't come to a
consensus, consider
having everyone read
the same short story
before continuing.
2. Give students time to
write an original
epilogue to the chosen
story. Students can
take the epilogue in
any direction they
want, but it should
utilize the same
characters and tone of
the story.
3. Collect the completed
epilogues, put them
together, and make
enough copies so that
each student can have
one. If your students
are able to type and
email the epilogues to
you, this will make the
process a bit easier.
4. Give each student his
or her copy of the
student written
epilogues to read as a
homework assignment.
5. Have the class vote for
the best epilogue and
award a prize to the
winning student.

If you are unable to print

enough copies of all of the
epilogues for every
student, you can ask for
volunteers to read their
epilogues for the class or
simply collect all of the
papers to review.
Week 12 (March 28, 2020) – Persuasive and Argumentative Essay

Persuasive Essay about Importance of Education

In such a competitive world, education is the essential requirement of every

individual. Education fulfills one’s life with joy and happiness. An educated person is
more satisfied with his life, or we can say that education gives the reason to be alive
in this world. Education steps simultaneously with your life till the end.
There are lots of reason why is education important in one’s life. The very first
thing that one can get livelihood that is that prior thing in human life to live.
Education is a platform by which one can get success and reach the top of
destination. It is a fact that the more educated you are the much wealthier you are.
Education improves the mentality and behavior of people.  Thus, educated people
are more sensible and calm. They treat animals and nature politely too. They have
an advanced and developed mind. Also, they desolate the surrounding of
superstitious and makes others believe in reality. A quality education system in the
country lessen the corruption and terrorism and encourage its progress. Education
makes a man be responsible and follow the rules and regulation of the society.
Hence they have unique fame in the community. Also, they work thoughtfully and
improves their social status. Such qualities sometimes offer them recognition of
good leader or respected profession. Education is essential for both men and women
to understand every aspect of life. Today, the criteria and the theme of the
education is entirely different than earlier. Many national programs are also
promoting education and making it accessible. Education in the society mitigates all
the differences and giving responsibilities, duties, social and human rights as well.
Today, you live in a technical world just because of educated people. People
invented lots of gadgets, machines, instrument, communication tools, etc. A country
well-equipped with science and technology is known as strengthening and advanced
country. In earlier days, there was lack of education. But today, education systems
are growing day by day and thus, people enlarge their views all over the world.
Argumentative Essay about Online Education

Online learning is giving people new choices and newfound flexibility with their
personal learning and development. Whereas before, formal academic qualifications
could only be gained by participating in a full time course on site, the internet has
allowed institutions to expand their reach and offer recognized courses on a contact-
partial, or totally virtual, basis. Institutions can do so with relatively few extra
resources, and for paid courses this constitutes excellent value, and the student
benefits with greater educational access and greater flexibility to learn and get
qualified even when there lots of other personal commitments to deal with.
Flexibility is certainly one of the most important benefits, but just as important is
educational access. On top of the internet’s widespread presence in developed
countries, the internet is becoming increasingly available in newly developed and
developing countries. Even without considering the general informational exposure
that the internet delivers, online academic courses and learning initiatives are
becoming more aware of the needs of people from disadvantaged backgrounds, and
this means that people from such backgrounds are in a much better position to learn
and progress than they used to be. The biggest argument that raises doubt over
online learning is the quality of online courses in comparison to conventional
courses. Are such online courses good enough for employers to take notice? The
second biggest argument is the current reality that faces many people from
disadvantaged backgrounds, despite the improvements made in this area in recent
years – they do not have the level of basic access needed to benefit from online
learning. In fact, there are numerous sources of evidence that claim disadvantaged
students are not receiving anywhere near the sort of benefits that online learning
institutions and promoters are trying to instigate. Currently there are many
organizations, campaigns and initiatives that are working to expand access to higher
education. With such high participation, it can be argued that it is only a matter of
time before the benefits are truly realized, but what about the global online
infrastructure?

There is another argument that is very difficult to dispel, and that is the response
of different types of students to the online learning paradigm. Evidence shows that
there are certain groups of students that benefit from college distance learning
much more than other groups. In essence, students must be highly motivated and
highly disciplined if they are to learn effectively in their own private environment.

important for students
to learn to regularly
engage in
metacognitive self-
questioning to help
them avoid the trap of
thinking they have
“read” the assigned
text just because they
have decoded all (or

is often helpful to clue
students in on the fact
that if they learn to ask

ask on tests or during
