MONITORING TECHNICIAN 1 – FPCS REEFER DIVISION

Purpose
An opportunity has arisen within FPCS Reefer Division for a Monitoring Technician 1. The main
purpose of this position is to ensure that all reefer monitoring, plug, unplug, and associated
activities are undertaken as instructed and information of completion or issues are
communicated to the Controller or Supervisor.

Key Requirements
These include:

 Plugging and unplugging reefer containers as instructed;


 Identifying and reporting any visible damage and / or faults to the Controller;
 Reviewing, identifying and reporting any unsafe, damaged or faulty reefer gantries / RTG
stacks;
 Updating computer systems periodically, producing and filing all relevant documentation;
 Conducting a clear and precise handover at the beginning and end of each shift;
 Performing all running and maintenance checks to plant and equipment;
 Communicating progress, delays or problems (actual or anticipated) to a Supervisor.

Hours Etc

 Averaging 45.82 hours per week rolling shift work pattern including days and nights – for

 Membership of a Contributory Occupational Pension Scheme;
 Generous holiday allowance;
 The salary is circa £24k (inclusive of shift allowance, excluding unsocial payments and

What is the role?


Reporting to Shift Supervisor – FPCS Reefer Division, Monitoring Technician 1 are responsible
for monitoring reefer containers against instructions provided through Controller or monitoring
system, ensuring temperature, vent, humidity are as per requirements. Reporting any variance
to required settings, this may include retrieving and replacing temperature charts as required.
While ensuring compliance to all policies, procedures and operating practices.

Who are we looking for?


Suitable applicants will have:

 Basic knowledge of reefer monitoring and servicing activities;


 Working knowledge of relevant procedures regarding health and safety in the work place;
 An update to date knowledge of systems and methods of working within particular
environments;
 A Full UK Driving Licence.

Job Summary
Responsible To Shift Supervisor – FPCS Reefer Division

Job Purpose To ensure that all reefer monitoring, plug, unplug and associated activities are
undertaken as instructed and information of completion or issues are
communicated to the Controller or Supervisor.
Description of Duties
Primary Functional Plug and unplug reefer containers as instructed.
Objectives of the Role Monitor reefer containers against instructions provided through Controller or
monitoring system, ensuring temperature, vent, humidity are as per
requirements. Report any variances to required settings. This may include
retrieving and replacing temperature charts as required.
Identify and report any visible damage and/or faults to Controller.
Identify condition of plugs and cables and report to Controller and replace if
instructed. Tidy away/tuck in all cables ready for road transport.
Review, identify and report any unsafe, damaged or faulty reefer gantries/RTG
stacks.
Update computer systems periodically, producing and filing all relevant
documentation.
Conduct a clear and precise handover and beginning and end of each shift.
Report any issues to the relevant Supervisor.
Ensure compliance to all policies, procedures, standard operating practices,
with recommendations for action and continuous improvement.
When required to do so, actively participate in any training of self and/or others
in order to achieve improved area and/or individual performance. Such training
to include, personal development, new equipment, new technology, relief cover
and new entrants to role.

Experience & Knowledge
Basic knowledge of reefer monitoring and servicing activities gained over training period of minimum 8 weeks.
Maintain a working knowledge of relevant procedures regarding Health and Safety in the work place.
Maintain continued knowledge of systems and methods of work within the particular environments you are
qualified to work in.
Basic understanding of Microsoft Office functions – Word/Excel/Outlook.
Qualifications
Full DVLA driving Licence.
Other internal licences/permits as a result of specific training for areas you are required to work in.

Mental Demands
Moderate concentration levels with unpredictable peaks that can lead to intense concentration for limited
periods.
Physical Demands
Moderate physical demands working outside lifting/moving reefer cables and plugs and climbing gantries.
Predominately based outside within Container Terminals and occasionally on vessel.
Health & Safety (exposure to risk)
Moderate risk with duties based in the outside environment. Risks whilst handling reefers plugs and cables and
climbing gantries, during which time there is a risk of electric shock if safe working procedures are not adhered
to.
