Nova Scotia ( pronounced /ˌnoʊvəˈskoʊʃə/;

Latin for New Scotland; Scottish Gaelic:

Alba Nuadh; French: Nouvelle–Écosse ) is a
Canadian province located on Canada’s
southeastern coast. It is the most–populous
province in Atlantic Canada. Its capital,
Halifax, is a major economic centre of the
region. Nova Scotia is the second–smallest
province in Canada with an area of 55,284
square kilometres ( 21,300 square miles ).
Its population of 939,531 makes it the fourth–least–populous province
of the country, though second–most–densely populated.

Nova Scotia's economy is traditionally largely resource–based, but has

diversified since the middle of the 20 t h Century.

Industries such as fishing, mining, forestry and agriculture remain ver y

important and have been joined by tourism, technology, film, music,
and finance.

According to the 2001 Canadian census, the largest ethnic group in

Nova Scotia is Scottish ( 29.3% ), followed by English ( 28.1% ), Irish
( 19.9% ), French ( 16.7% ), German ( 10.0% ), Dutch ( 3.9% ), First
Nations ( 3.2% ), Welsh ( 1.4% ), Italian ( 1.3% ), and Acadian
( 1.2% ). Peoples of European descent thus make up approximately
96.8% of the total population. Almost half of all respondents ( 47.4% )
identified their ethnicity as « Canadian ».

Government of Nova Scotia

Media Release

Nova Scotians will have an opportunity to comment on a PROPOSED

BAN on the use and sale of non–essential lawn care pesticides.

A public consultation will help government

better understand opinions, concerns and
issues arising from the non–essential use of
pesticides for residential, public and com-
mercial lawn maintenance. Comments will
be considered before decisions are made on
changes to laws or regulations.

« The province is committed to fostering a

healthier, more sustainable environment
and is looking for ways to reduce non–
essential pesticide use », said Environment
Minister Sterling Belliveau.
« This proposal is consistent with the municipalities’ request, and
we look forward to hearing Nova Scotians’ comments on it ».

Health Canada has said it is good practice

to reduce or eliminate unnecessary expo-
sure to pesticides, and Canadians should
minimize exposure to pesticides.

Health Canada’s Pest Management Regulatory Agency approves

which pesticides may be sold or used in Canada. The provincial
Department of Environment currently regulates how commercial
and restricted pesticides may be sold, used, stored, disposed of, and
transported.

The provincial consultation will address the use and sale of pesti-
cides for non–essential lawn care, not uses such as pest control to
protect public health, maintain commercial golf courses, or agricul-
tural and forestry application.

Comments will also be accepted by phone at 1–888–320–0555.

The deadline for comment is March 7, 2010.

try with the NEEDLESS, SENSELESS, and MALICIOUS
prohibitionist policies leading to LOSS OF REVENUES,
BUSINESS FAILURES, BANKRUPTCY, and UNEMPLOY-
MENT, inflicting TERROR, DESPAIR, and DESTITUTION
on THOUSANDS of hapless victims throughout the

ters concerning pest control products ! Consequently,
his opinions on this subject are VALUELESS and
WORTHLESS. ]

On the issue of cosmetic ( lawn and garden ) pesticides, Nova Sco-

tia has officially gone from leader to last.
Ontario and Quebec have banned the sale and use of these prod-
ucts. New Brunswick has announced legislation that it hopes will
reduce pesticide use significantly. Prince Edward Island has prom-
ised a pesticide ban by next year. At one time, Halifax was the
largest city in Canada to ban pesticides. Now we are the laggards
of our region.

The new government [ of Nova Scotia ] has promised to change the

rules, allowing any municipality the right to ban the use of pesti-
cides. This is welcome news for towns like W olfville and Stellarton,
where residents harmed by pesticides have convinced their town
councils that a pesticide bylaw is needed.

What many Nova Scotians may not know is that pesticide bans are
a great way to create the green jobs our politicians keep promising.
The lawn care industry is booming wherever cosmetic pesticides
have been banned. [ W rong ! ]

In Halifax, since the enactment of the cosmetic pesticide bylaw, the

number of landscaping companies has increased by more than 50
per cent, [ W rong ! ] as has the number of employees per firm.
Most of this growth is sparked by organic landscapers filling the
niche for pesticide–free yard work created by the ban. [ W rong ! ]

Banning landscape pesticides is an easy way to create green jobs,

save on health care costs, save lives and protect the environment.
[ W rong ! ] We can only hope that our new government decides to
keep up with the rest of the Maritimes, and ban the sale and use of
lawn pesticides outright.

Quebec adopted regulations in 2003 to ban the use and sale of

many lawn pesticides.
A few months ago, a new ban came into effect in Ontario [ in
2009 ]. Prince Edward Island has promised to follow suit, and
New Brunswick is considering it [ This province eventually legis-
lated a prohibition ].

Halifax was ahead of the curve when the city

adopted a bylaw prohibiting pesticide use on
lawns and gardens and in parks back in 2001.

But provincial parties were curiously silent on

the issue during the recent election campaign.

What’s stopping Nova Scotia politicians from

weeding out toxic lawn chemicals province–
wide ?

The chemical industry will repeat the mantra that pesticides are
safe, but not even the federal agency in charge of licensing their
products uses that language.

Background Information from an Independent Perspective ─ Overall, the idea

that pest control products are causing irreversible health and environmental
problems is little more than NONSENSE. Conventional pest control products are
SCIENTIFICALLY SAFE ! Overall, when they are used properly, there are NO
harmful irreversible effects to health and the environment !

It’s worth noting, as well, that at least 50 active ingredients regis-

tered for use in pesticides in Canada have been banned in other
Western countries due to health or environmental concerns.
[ Big Deal ! ]
For instance, the popular lawn herbicide 2,4–D is banned in Den-
mark and Norway, and was voluntarily withdrawn from the market
in Sweden. [ See later segment for background information. ]

What do the Scandinavians know that we don’t ?

In fact, we know a lot.

A scientific literature review published by the Ontario College of

Famil y Physicians points to « consistent links to serious illnesses,
such as cancer, reproductive problems and neurological diseases »
associated with chronic pesticide exposure. [ W rong ! ]

The study also shows that children are particularly vulnerable —

and they’re the ones rolling around on the grass on hot summer
days. [ Alarmist fear–mongering using children as weapons of mass destruction ! ]

Background Information from an Independent Perspective ─

Enviro–Maniac–Health–Care–Workers have made « cosmetic pesticides » a

« public health issue » for their own twisted and nefarious reasons.

√ FACT : Enviro–Maniac–Health–Care–Workers routinely SCAM the public with

the CONCOCTION of FRAUDULENT LIES and NON–EXISTENT DANGERS. They
deceive the public blurting out HOLLOW and DESPICABLY–ALARMIST expressions
like « cancer » and « serious illness » and « reproductive problems » and « neu-
rological diseases » !

This is clearly evident in a literature review that is a DISGRACEFULLY FALSE and

MISLEADING report concocted by ONTARIO COLLEGE OF FAMILY PHYSICIANS
( O.C.F.P. ) and financed by LAIDLAW FOUNDATION, an organization that sup-
ports Environmental–Terror against the Green Space Industry.
► ENVIRO–DECEPTION : One doctor, who was listed as having peer–reviewed
the report, was not aware that her name was on the report until it was published,
and then denied she had reviewed the report.

√ FACT : The O.C.F.P. report has absolutely NO CREDIBILITY in the legitimate

scientific community.

√ FACT : The O.C.F.P. report has been INTERNATIONALLY DISCREDITED.

► WARNING : The O.C.F.P. report is merely a deceptive ENVIRO–MANIAC–

JUNK–SCIENCE document that consisted of simply a CHERRY–PICKING of some
of the most recklessly negative reports regarding pest control products.

► WARNING : The BOGUS–OCFP–JUNK SCIENCE document consists mostly of

research that DOES NOT EVEN COMPLY with the same research standards as the
Pest Control Product Industry. This industry must comply with VERY PRECISE
and DEMANDING STANDARDS when it comes to undertaking the scientific re-
search required by government regulatory agencies. Scientific data submitted to
HEALTH CANADA and other federal regulators must be done by GOOD LABORA-
TORY PRACTICE ( GLP ) qualified laboratories.

√ FACT : ONTARIO COLLEGE OF FAMILY PHYSICIANS ( O.C.F.P. ) DOES NOT

have ANY qualified laboratories for testing pest control products. In fact, it has
NO laboratories whatsoever.

√ FACT : NOT A SINGLE PERSON at ONTARIO COLLEGE OF FAMILY PHYSI-

CIANS ( O.C.F.P. ) has ANY recognized expertise, training or background in mat-
ters concerning pest control products ! Most of these people are mere Enviro–
Maniac–Health–Care–Workers, and NOT scientists or researchers !

√ FACT : There are NO Enviro–Maniac–Health–Care–Workers at O.C.F.P. who

are scientists or researchers with credentials in the field of pest control products.

Moreover, David Suzuki Foundation research found more than

6,000 cases of acute pesticide poisoning in Canada in one year,
nearly half involving children under the age of six.
[ A non–scientific report concocted by a known Environmental–Terror–Organization. ]
2,4–D PROHIBITED BY OTHER NATIONS

2,4–D is not approved for lawns and gardens in Denmark, Kuwait,

Norwa y, and Sweden. 2,4–D use is severely restricted in Belize,
but it is approved in the European Union ( E.U. ), of which both
Sweden and Denmark are members.

Of course, the Environmental–Terror–

Movement wishes to give the false impres-
sion that things are so much better in Be-
lize, Denmark, Kuwait, Norway, and
Sweden. Indeed, 2,4–D is used exten-
sively on golf courses and other immacu-
lately–maintained green spaces that are
resplendent throughout the war–torn Ku-
wait region. ☺ (See photo.)

Enviro–Maniac–Activists avoid to mention

the fact that the issue of 2,4–D being pro-
hibited by other nations has already been
sufficiently addressed by the Canadian
federal government. As usual, these UN-
PRINCIPLED and UNEDUCATED maniacs
prefer to resort to FEAR–MONGERING,
FRAUDULENT LIES, MISCONCEPTIONS, COERCION, THREATS,
DECEPTIONS, TERROR, and PARANOID CONSPIRACIES about
pest control products.

NOT ONE Enviro–Maniac–Activist has ANY recognized expertise,

training, or background in matters concerning pest control prod-
ucts. Overall, maniac opinions on pest control products are VAL-
UELESS and WORTHLESS.

In 2005, the respected Pest Management Regulatory Agenc y of

Health Canada ( P.M.R.A. ) responded to the issue of nation prohi-
bition with following statement ―

<< 2,4–D is no longer used in Sweden or Norway and its use is

severely restricted in Denmark. Environmental effects are
cited as the primary reason for these actions as 2,4–D has the
potential to enter groundwater, the primary source of drinking
water in these countries. However, subsequent to these ac-
tions, the European Commission, upon completion of their re–
evaluation of 2,4–D on October 1, 2001, concluded that it was
acceptable for continued use the European Union, of which
both Sweden and Denmark are members.

As part of the re–evaluation of 2,4–D, the PMRA has compiled

all available drinking water data from various regions and
sources across Canada. These data indicate that the levels in
drinking water do not pose unacceptable risks for the Canadian
population.
It is important to recognize that of the many studies pub-
lished, some report associations between adverse health ef-
fects and 2,4–D exposure, while many others report a lack of
association. As most of these papers acknowledge, epidemiol-
ogy studies on their own are difficult to interpret because bi-
ases and confounding factors often preclude any convincing link
between specific pesticide exposures and effects. For example,
influences from other chemicals and the physical environment
encountered at the same time as pesticide exposures and recall
bias from the individuals examined are two factors that can
strongly influence the study result. Without an actual expo-
sure calculation, it is difficult to assess whether pesticides
could have been responsible for an adverse health outcome.
This is why the PMRA also relies on the more scientifically ex-
act method of quantitatively estimating risk by comparing ex-
posures to the results of toxicity studies in laboratory animals.
The proprietary studies used are conducted to internationally
accepted standards and include toxicity studies done on a num-
ber of laboratory animal species for comparative purposes, as
well as studies of exposure from all routes and methods of ex-
posure. Safety factors (typically 100 to 1000 fold) are built
into the assessment to account for different sensitivities be-
tween humans and experimental animals and among humans
(age, gender and individual sensitivities to pesticides). In
general, this is the same approach that is currently utilized by
the various international pesticide regulatory authorities in-
cluding the US EPA and other OECD countries. >>

FORCE OF NATURE was launched for continuous transmission on the Internet on January 1st, 2009. It is a se-
ries of e–newsletters destined for the Green Space Industry, the Environmental–Terror–Movement, Govern-
ment Officials, and the Media, nation–wide across Canada, the United States, and overseas.

Force Of Nature is the brainchild of William H. Gathercole and his entourage. Norah G is actually an acronym
for the stable of anonymous producers and writers that contribute to this e–newsletter and have now replaced
Mr. Gathercole. They consist of people from the following industries : Distribution, Fertilizer, Golf, Lawn Care,
Manufacturing, Municipal, Nursery, and Orchard. Many of these people are leaders in their own industries.
The opinions expressed in Force Of Nature, even though from an INDEPENDENT PERSPECTIVE, may not re-
flect those of everyone in the GREEN SPACE INDUSTRY, or Mr. Gathercole’s many associates. Be warned !
Force Of Nature may sometimes be very irreverent and fearless with these e–newsletters. Mr. Gathercole is
now retired from Force Of Nature, although his name continues to appear as the founder.

William H. Gathercole is a principal FOUNDER of the Modern Professional Lawn Care Industry in BOTH Ontario
and Quebec. He holds a degree in Horticulture from the UNIVERSITY OF GUELPH, and another pure and ap-
plied science degree from McGILL UNIVERSITY. He has worked in virtually all aspects of the GREEN SPACE
INDUSTRY, including GOLF and PROFESSIONAL LAWN CARE, and has served in public affairs, workplace
safety, and environmental compliance. Mr. Gathercole has supervised, consulted, programmed, and/or over-
seen the execution of HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS of pest control applications in the urban landscape. He has
trained, instructed, and consulted with THOUSANDS of turf managers and technicians. Mr. Gathercole has
also been an agricultural agronomist. For many years, Mr. Gathercole was a contributing columnist for TURF &
Recreation Magazine, Canada’s Turf and Grounds Maintenance Authority.

Mr. Gathercole has followed the evolution of ENVIRONMENTAL–TERRORISM for over a quarter–century. His
involvement in Environmental issues reached a fevered pitch in the 1990s, when he orchestrated, with his col-
leagues, legal action against the prohibition of pest control products in the Town of Hudson, Quebec. For FIF-
TEEN YEARS, the strategies designed and implemented by Mr. Gathercole and his colleagues guaranteed the
control of Enviro–Terror for the entire Modern Green Space Industry across Canada. Mr. Gathercole is person-
ally credited for crafting the Golf Industry Exception Status, that endures to this day. He is also the creator of
the signs that are now used for posting after application. Although he can be accused of being Anti–
Environment–Movement, he is, in fact, simply a strong advocate FOR the Modern Green Space Industry.
However, this position has not precluded him from criticizing the Green Space Industry itself. Nonetheless, his
vast knowledge of our long journey with Environmental issues is UNDENIABLE. ( Hopefully ! )

Force Of Nature is the instrument of National Organization Responding Against Huje that harm the Green
Space Industry ( NORAHG ) by concocting statements and activities seeking to prohibit FEDERALLY LEGAL,
SCIENTIFICALLY SAFE, TOTALLY IRREPLACEABLE, and ABSOLUTELY INDISPENSABLE conventional pest con-
trol products. Enviro–Maniacs are identified on the basis of their statements, activities, affiliations, and where-
abouts. Even though each Enviro–Maniac–Culprit is a mis–guided adversary, each still deserves our respect.
The terms Maniac, Culprit, Terrorist, or Basterd are not accusations of any legal wrong–doing. Force Of Nature
is simply holding Alleged culprits accountable for conspiring to change public policies that TERRORIZE and
THREATEN the Green Space Industry. Their pretentious prohibitionist rants has created LOSS OF REVENUES,
BUSINESS FAILURES, BANKRUPTCY, and UNEMPLOYMENT, inflicting DESPAIR and DESTITUTION for THOU-
SANDS of hapless victims throughout the Green Space Industry. The DEPRAVED INDIFFERENCE of Maniac–
Culprit–Terrorist–Basterds is viewed as a form of TERROR against the GREEN SPACE INDUSTRY. The informa-
tion presented in Force Of Nature has been developed for the education and entertainment of the reader by
providing a sequence of historical events with commentary. Additionally, Force Of Nature inspires people to
believe that ENVIRONMENTAL–TERRORISM can be STOPPED ! The events, characters, companies, and or-
ganizations, depicted in this document are not always fictitious. Any similarity to actual persons, living or
dead, may not be coincidental. All document excerpts and pictures contained in Force Of Nature were found
somewhere on the Internet. These documents and pictures are in the public domain, serving one of the fol-
