Introduction
Galaxy, the inter hall cultural championship after a successful come back after many years last year is
back again this year. Galaxy is scheduled to be held from 30th March to 4th April, 2010. Meetings
were held to decide the rules and competitions to be held, regulations, schedule, point system etc.
The various decisions taken were in consensus of the following members:

1. Cultural Council(All club co-ordinators and other council members)

2. Cultural Secretaries of various halls
3. Presidents of various halls
4. Hall Captains and Pool Leaders for Galaxy

The Pool structure as decided on the senate floor would be:

“Aryans”: Hall 1 + Hall 2 +Hall 8 + GH-2

“Spartans”: Hall 3 + Hall 7 + Hall 9
“Titans”: Hall 4 + Hall 5 + Hall 10 + GH-1 + Others

The three pools are allowed to use a sum of INR 45,000 for the preparation and participation in
Galaxy.

Organising Team
The core team would consist of the following:
1. Apporva Krishna Srivastava (General Secretary Cultural Council)
2. Anurag Maheshwari (Overall Co-ordinator)
3. C.Rahul (Overall Co-ordinator)

We shall also include other co-ordinators and other members, but shall disclose them only after the
completion of Galaxy’10.

Point Structure
Any competition held in Galaxy’10, the points shall be awarded finally to the pool. Every competition
has got maximum points, and the points would be awarded as follows:

1stPlace:100% of the maximum points

2nd Place: 60% of the maximum points
3rd Place: 40% of the maximum points

Policy of awarding the points to the “pool”

Galaxy is a competition between 3 pools, as a policy the final points shall be awarded to the pool in
all the competitions and not individual team performance if there are more than one team per pool.
The total points given by judges to the teams of each pool shall be summed up total points of the
pool shall be considered to award the final points of the event.

Further details about the competition, schedule and rules shall be uploaded in the Galaxy site. The
schedule, rules and regulations have also been discussed and framed in the same meetings.

Role of Pool Leaders

 Pool leader is shall give the final participation list to the Galaxy coordinators in any event
 Pool leader shall only launch complaints if any to the Galaxy coordinators during the event
 Pool leader has the right to call a meeting between various Pool Leaders, Hall Captains and
Galaxy Organising Team if there has been any controversy/complaint during the
competitions

Grievance Reddressal Committee

Any grievances not solved by the organising team shall go to the GRC.
Keeping the experiences with last year Galaxy, we shall request to form a new GRC.

exceeding of time due to applause shall not be considered for negative marking.

7. Event Name: Parody Making

Theme: 3 movies from different genre would be given on 29 th March. The Parody
should be made using this 3 movies.
Other rules and regulations:
1. No language bar (It can be both in English or Hindi or Both).
2. Obscenity is left to the judges.
3. Negative marking is left to the judges for exceeding the time limit, however
exceeding of time due to applause shall not be considered for negative marking.

8. Event Name: Radio Drama

Duration: Maximum of 10 mins
Other rules and regulations:
1. No language bar (It can be both in English or Hindi or Both).
2. Obscenity is left to the judges.
3. Shall be performed on the newly set-up radio station of IITK
Judging Criteria:
Judging Criteria shall be left to the judges, however emphasis shall be given on
humor and presentation of the drama.

9. Event Name: Band Competition 1 (Eastern, Fusion and Popular)

16. Event Name: Wall painting(Competition)

Theme : Would be given on 1st (Thursday)

Use of Spray paints is not allowed
Judging Criteria:
Judging Criteria shall be left to the judges.

17. Event Name: Thermocol Carving(Submission)

No. of Submissions per Pool: 1
Date of Judging: 4th March
Other rules and regulations:
Theme : Shall be given on 23rd March
Size: 3ft X 4ft X3ft to 5ft X 5ft X 5ft
Thermocol should be only cut or carved no other work(i.e painting of decoration is
not counted)
Judging Criteria:
Judging Criteria shall be left to the judges.

18. Event Name: Sketching (Competition)

No. of teams per Pool: As many as the pool wishes(but best of each pool shall be
considered for judging)
Duration : 3hrs
Other rules and regulations:
Theme : Would be given on the spot
Size: White sheet of A3 size
Judging Criteria:
Judging Criteria shall be left to the judges.

19. Event Name: Body art painting (Competition)

No. of teams per Pool: 1 (3 persons per display of the body art)
Duration : 5hrs

The structure making does not have any rules in specific it is open for innovation.
They should be displayed on the final day i.e 4th March in the auditorium grounds.

Content: British American post 1990 non animated TV Series.

27. Event Name: Dumb Charades (English)

No. of teams per Pool: 3 (3 members each)
Rules and Regulations: The event shall usually consist of one actor and two guessers.
The other rounds shall be variations of the same principle. The actor shall act out
movies/places/books/personalities/characters and the guessers have to guess the
items in the minimum amount of time.

28. Event Name: Word Games (English)

No. of teams per Pool: 2 (2-5 members each)
Rules and Regulations: The Event will consist of Pictionary, Scrabble and Word Games.
Pictionary consists of one actor and one guesser. The actor will have to draw out
whatever he is acting. He is not allowed to use body movements to help the
guessers.
The minimum and maximum number of people for each part will be:
• 2-3 for Pictionary
• 1 for Scrabble
• 2-3 for Word-Games

29. Event Name: Parliamentary Debate (English)

No. of teams per Pool: 2 (3 members each)
Format and Rules:The format is the same as a standard PD. There are three topics.
The Opposition strikes one, the Proposition strikes one. The final topic is taken as the
topic for the house. The teams get 20 minutes to discuss on the topic.
The speaking format is as follows: The Leader of Proposition speaks for 7 minutes,
then the LO speaks for 7 minutes. This is followed by the DLP and the DLO, each for 7
minutes. Then the Proposition whip and the Opposition Whip speak for 7 minutes.
After that are the closing speeches of the Opposition and Proposition for 4 minutes
each.

30. Event Name: JAM

No. of teams per Pool: 3 (1 members each)
Rules and Format : The person has to speak in grammatically correct, formal English
for as long as he can without getting buzzed by the other opponents. The other
participants’ job is to catch the grammatical errors of the speaker. Points are
awarded for both, speaking and error spotting.

31. Event Name: Creative Writing (English)

No. of teams per Pool: 3 (2 members each)
Topic shall be given on the spot

32. Event Name: Group extempore (English)

No. of teams per Pool: 1 (4 members each)
Rules and Format : The format shall be similar to the TV show “Whose Line is it
anyway?” and the rounds will be similar. The event is basically an extempore and an
on-the-spot skit pertaining to the given topic.

33. Event Name: Dumb Charades (Hindi)

No. of teams per Pool: 4 (3 members each)
Rules and Regulations: The event shall usually consist of one actor and two guessers.
The other rounds shall be variations of the same principle. The actor shall act out
movies/places/books/personalities/characters and the guessers have to guess the
items in the minimum amount of time.

speech or poem/songs.

Topic shall be given on the spot

39. Event Name: Galaxy Parade

Date: 30th March
Route: Road connecting Hall 2-1-3-4-swimming pool to New SAC
Rules: The Pool leader and hall captains shall guide the route.
Use of obscene words or signs shall not be entertained and reported to the judges.

40. Event Name: Pool T-shirt Design

Printed/Painted version of T-shirt should be submitted by 25th March 23:59hrs
Rules: Both the soft copy design (already submitted to the organising team) and the
t-shirt sample would be given to the judges.

41. Event Name: Pool Flag Design

Printed/Painted version of Flag should be submitted by 25th March 23:59hrs
Rules: Both the soft copy design (already submitted to the organising team) and the
flag sample would be given to the judges.

42. Event Name: Antakshari

(Bollywood Songs only)
No. of teams per Pool: 3 (3 members each)

43. Event Name: Kite Flying

No. of kites per pool: 5
Rules and Point system: Each team shall fly 5 identical kites representing there pool.
Points shall be awarded to the pool which cuts a kite of any pool. After all kites are done the
no. of points gained per pool shall be taken and evaluated for final result.

44. Event Name: Pool Video

No. of videos per team: 1
Date of presentation/judging : 4th March
Video Length : 10 mins maximum

Rules: Each team has to shoot a video about its pool over the time of preparation
and competition and shall present the video on the final day.

46. Event Name: Costume Making Competition

Rules: Each team has to make a costume using news papers only and should be
presented by dressing it on a team member.
