THE WAITING ROOM

1
THE WAITING ROOM

INTRODUCTION

I saw a movie and the word “Waiting Room” was mentioned, this birthed the story you are about to read.
I knew at that point that the Lord wanted me to put this in writing and get the message in it across board.

The unfolding of events in this story has a message of hope and encouragement to as many who are
waiting on the Lord for the fulfillment of God’s promises for their lives. God is faithful to his promises; if
he has said it, then he will do it. Numbers 23:19 assures that “God is not a man that he should lie, neither
the son of man that he should repent: hath he said, and shall he not do it? Or hath he spoken, and shall he
not make it good?

The fact that God’s time differs from man’s, makes most men weary and doubtful of God’s ability to
fulfill his promise or answer prayer after a long period of waiting and it seems God is silent or will never
show up, whenever you are in that season; you are in “the waiting room” of the Lord. The most
important thing you need to do whenever you find yourself in the Lord’s waiting room is to be patient and
trust the Lord completely because he will definitely show up in his time and when he does, it will be
glorious. Ecclesiastes 3:11a says “He hath made all things beautiful in his time”. In John 11: 1-44, Jesus
did not show up when they expected him to come and heal Lazarus from sickness; He rather showed up
when Lazarus was dead and buried, when there was no more hope, when Lazarus’ case was closed. When
He finally showed up, it was glorious and marvelous in the sight of all.

I charge you dear friend; don’t give up on God, so you don’t miss out the best he’s preparing for you. He
will definitely show up, He’s never late, He comes right on time. I trust the Lord that as you explore every
scene in this story, you will receive divine strength to wait on the Lord and your hope in God will be
renewed in Jesus name. Amen!!

EDITOR’S REVIEW
“The Waiting Room is a must read for everyone especially Christians. It bears the mind of God and his
plan for mankind and how practically the wicked one, the devil, the enemy of our soul, tries all he can to
thwart the will of God for his beloved children.

Every human being on earth will definitely have a waiting period at some point in life’s journey. This
story encourages us to believe God and hold unto His word and promises.

No matter how long, no matter how dubiously the wicked prosper around you, please wait on God, he has
you beautifully planned out, this will happen in His time, for your joy and for his glory.

THE WAITING ROOM

SCENE 1

Daniel Adebayo approaches the receptionist of a well-known and reputable multi-national

company informing her of the final interview he’s having with the MD/CEO. The receptionist
being very much aware of his appointment with the MD/CEO welcomes and leads him to the
waiting room of the MD/CEO.

Few minutes later, two other interviewees (John and Vincent) come into the waiting room for the
same purpose. Shortly afterwards, the HR manager comes in to address them…

PATRICIA: Good day gentlemen, I welcome you all for the final stage of your interview with
Global Trust Multinational; I must congratulate you for passing through the rigorous stages
successfully. I’m Patricia Okafor, the HR manager of this organization; I’ve simply come to get
you ready for this final stage of the selection process which will take place soon.

You will be having a tete-a-tete with the CEO; this is because he’s just meeting you to ask a few
questions and to get to know you. So, please feel free and express yourself. I can assure you it’s
going to be fun.

This room you are in now, the waiting room of the CEO, is an important determinant to getting
the job; what you do in this room can make a lot of difference. You are not expected to leave this
waiting room until you are called to meet with the CEO. You have all you need here to make
yourself comfortable.

JOHN: (Anxious) Please, when exactly are we meeting with the CEO? (He asks Patricia)

PATRICIA: I can’t give an exact answer to that now, but I can assure you it will be soon. The
CEO determines in his own time when to meet with anyone who has an appointment with him;
all you need is to be patient in this waiting room.

JOHN: (Uneasy) But you told us to be here 10am for this interview.

PATRICIA: Yes, I did say 10am. The CEO will be meeting you today, he told me to get you
ready here for 10am. Once it’s time, he will call for you; just relax and be patient.

DANIEL: Okay ma. Thanks for the briefing. We will surely be here waiting.

(There are some writings inscribed on the wall of the waiting room)

‘PATIENCE’ – Psalm 27:14,

‘FAITH’ – Hebrews 11:1 & 6,

‘WORD OF GOD’ – Joshua 1:8,

‘PRAYER’ – 1 Thessalonians 5:17, ‘JOY’ – Phil 4:4

7
THE WAITING ROOM

VINCENT: (Having observed the writings on the wall) What’s the meaning of the writings on
the wall? (He asks Patricia)

PATRICIA: These are the code of conducts of the waiting room.

JOHN/DANIEL/VINCENT: (Amazed) Really?

PATRICIA: Yes. These codes of conduct will be of great help to you as long as you are in the
waiting room. I will like to take my leave now.

(Patricia leaves them in the waiting room. Shortly after, an office assistant comes in to serve
them hot coffee and snacks. They engage in conversations as they take the refreshments, getting
to know each other.)

(Few minutes later, the P.A to the CEO comes into the waiting room; he introduces himself to
them and gives them a message from the CEO.)

CHARLES: Good day gentlemen, I’m Charles Olayemi, the P.A to the CEO. I’m here to deliver
the CEO’s message to you even as you await him. He says he will be meeting with you soon;
you all need is to be patient with him. (He has three books with him) He has asked me to give
you this book as a gift from him, as it will be very useful for you while you are in this waiting
room.

JOHN: (Curious) Sorry sir! May I ask why so much importance is attached to this waiting room;
I don’t seem to understand? I just hope we are not going to wait here forever! I have some other
important appointments to catch up with; so time is of essence.

CHARLES: (Smiles) I understand you want to be attended to as fast as possible so you can meet
up with your other schedules. Unfortunately, no matter how time conscious you are, you can
only meet the CEO at his own time. What you do in this waiting room matters a lot and it can
determine whether you will meet with the CEO or not.

JOHN/DANIEL/VINCENT: (Amazed, all mutter) Like seriously!

DANIEL: Are you saying that despite this invitation, it’s possible one might not meet with the
CEO?

CHARLES: This waiting room is crucial for anyone that is invited to meet or receive anything
from the CEO, and if one fails to do the needful while in the waiting room, he may not meet with
the CEO.

VINCENT: Does this mean such a person won’t get the job?

CHARLES: Definitely, that’s what it means. So please, take note of these codes of conducts
inscribed on the wall and make good use of them, as you wait for the CEO. Again, I plead with

8
THE WAITING ROOM

you, not to leave this waiting room for anything; nothing should take you away from here except
for the purpose why you are here. If you leave, you lose the job. Any other questions?

(They give no response…, meaning no more questions…he leaves them to await the CEO).

(An Hour later… The CEO is yet to call for them. John and Vincent have fallen into deep sleep
while Daniel is deeply engrossed with the CEO’s book. A man (Chief Bankole) walks into the
waiting room, he gently awakes John and Vincent from sleep, and they awake to check the time;
they are surprised they have spent over an hour waiting for the CEO. Chief Bankole smiling, sits
down as he introduces himself to them...)

CHIEF BANKOLE: Good day gentlemen, I’m Chief Bankole Ogundairo, the CEO of Trusted
Hands Oil and Gas Company, I’m sure you are familiar with that. I’m a close friend to the CEO
of this organization (smiles). You have an interview with him right?

JOHN/VINCENT/DANIEL: Yes Sir

CHIEF BANKOLE: (Laughs) You are wasting your time

(The interviewees’ are confused at his statement)

DANIEL: What do you mean sir?

CHIEF BANKOLE: My friend, Hon. Joseph Williams has nothing to offer you; I just left his
office and we discussed about the interview you came for, he confessed to me that he already has
a candidate for the position.

VINCENT: (Perplexed) This is unbelievable! If he is not giving us the job, then why did he
invite us? Why did he allow us to pass through the rigorous interview stages?

CHIEF BANKOLE: (Smiling) It’s just formality; he’s just following the due process required
of him.

JOHN: (Upset) This is wickedness! With all we have gone through – the tests and the rigorous
interview stages, this is unfair.

DANIEL: This can’t be true. I’ve read from his book that his promises are ‘Yea and Amen’, and
also assured that he can never lie. Whatever he says he will do, he will surely do it; though it
may tarry, it will surely come to pass.

CHIEF BANKOLE: (Laughs and claps for Daniel) Bravo! You have done well, you really
tried; be deceiving yourself. You’ve been here for over an hour now waiting for one CEO. He
told you to come for an interview at 10am and this is almost 12 noon and he hasn’t showed up;
has he not lied? Has he not proven that he does not have integrity? It’s not your fault, I should
blame myself for descending so low to come to your aid.

9
THE WAITING ROOM

JOHN: Please don’t mind him Sir, we are very sorry Sir, forgive our ignorance.

CHIEF BANKOLE: It’s okay

JOHN: Thank you very much sir. So, is there a way you can help us now? We really need this
job.

CHIEF BANKOLE: (Deceitfully) Of course…that’s why I’m here. I want to give you a better
offer than what my friend claims to offer you. But, that’s only if you will leave this waiting
room and follow me. If you do this, I have for you Executive positions with minimum annual
pay of ₦20million, any car of your choice and a duplex.

JOHN: (Excited) Wow… this is amazing. I’m ready sir, after all, the CEO has nothing to offer
us. (To Daniel and Vincent) Guys, aren’t you going to take this golden opportunity? Remember,
opportunity only comes once.

DANIEL: I’m not leaving this waiting room. I will wait for the CEO.

JOHN: Hmm… I hope you don’t regret this. (To Vincent) What about you?

VINCENT: (Undecided) I’m confused. I love to have this amazing offer but I’m having a
feeling I should still stay in this waiting room.

JOHN: (Upset) What kind of feeling is that?

CHIEF BANKOLE: (Smiles) It’s okay John, by the time they hear your testimony, they will
understand better. (He stands up) Let’s go John!!

(John and Chief Bankole leave immediately.)

VINCENT: (Confused, he mutters) Hmm… I hope I’m making the right decision?

DANIEL: Yes sir. Mr. Vincent, you have made the right decision. That man is a deceiver and a
liar.

VINCENT: How sure are you?

DANIEL: I’ve read about him in the CEO’s book, he’s not only a liar but a father of lies.

VINCENT: (Amazed) Really?

DANIEL: Yes. Take up the CEO’s book, read and meditate on it yourself, it will surely help you
if you believe and do all what is written in it.

VINCENT: Okay, thanks. (He reluctantly picks up the book and starts to read.)

10
THE WAITING ROOM

(Two hours later… Daniel and Vincent are still waiting for the CEO; at this point, Vincent is
uneasy and discouraged, as he remembers Chief Bankole’s offer and all he said about the CEO,
imagining them as true. Meanwhile, Daniel is very relaxed; he is busy watching the TV in the
waiting room. Vincent becomes more confused and confronts him…)

VINCENT: Mr. Daniel!! We have spent more than three hours here and you are not even
bothered. Don’t you think all what chief Bankole said are true?

(Daniel points Vincent’s attention to the writings on the wall and encourages him to be patient
and believe that the CEO will soon come for them.)

VINCENT: (Still bothered) But it’s taking too long.

DANIEL: Though it may tarry, it will surely come to pass. That’s what his book says.

(Few minutes later… Vincent’s phone rings, it is John calling…)

JOHN: Hello Vincent, it’s me John. Have you guys finally met with the CEO?

VINCENT: (In a low tone) Hmm… we have not ooo, we are still here waiting.

JOHN: (Giggles) You guys will wait forever. Anyway, I called to inform you that I’m cruising
in a new world now. I’m now a branch manager of Trusted Hands Oil and Gas Company; I have
a house and a car to myself (laughs). I will send you pictures on WhatsApp now so you can
believe.

VINCENT: (Amazed) Okay, I will be expecting (ends the call.)

(In few minutes, he receives the pictures. He exclaims as he sees John’s car, house and office. He
shows Daniel but he is still not bothered.)

VINCENT: But what’s wrong with you? People say seeing is believing; and you are still
holding on to what is not certain. More than three hours now, the CEO has not showed up but
just within an hour Chief Bankole shows up and fulfills his promise.

DANIEL: (Smiles) The CEO’s book says…

VINCENT: (Cuts in) Enough of what the CEO’s book says. I’ve heard enough. You said his
book says Mr. Bankole is a liar; but who is the liar now? See how we’ve missed a golden
opportunity.

(Vincent calls John to help him plead with Mr. Bankole to forgive his ignorance. He is surprised
as John assures him that the opportunity is still open for him and Daniel if they are interested;
Mr. Bankole is still willing to help. Vincent leaves Daniel in the waiting room immediately for
Mr. Bankole’s offer.)

11
THE WAITING ROOM

(Daniel is the last man standing… at this point, different thoughts begin to run through his mind;
he casts his mind back on all the CEO’s P.A told them and Mr. Bankole too. He goes to the wall,
looks at the codes of conduct again, then he concludes in himself…)

DANIEL: No matter what it takes, I will wait, I believe the CEO will come and he has a better
offer. (He sits and continues to study and meditate on the CEO’s book.)

(An hour later… The CEO and his P.A come into the waiting room. Daniel is so engrossed with
the CEO’s book that he didn’t notice their presence.)

CHARLES: Hello Mr. Daniel.

DANIEL: (Amazed) Yes sir. Sorry, I didn’t know when you entered.

CHARLES: (Smiles) It’s okay. By the way, where are your fellow interviewees?

DANIEL: They’ve gone for another offer. They couldn’t wait because the CEO was taking so
long.

CHARLES: (Shakes head in pity) Anyway, they made their choice. I hereby introduce to you
the CEO of Global Trust Multinational.

DANIEL: (Amazed and excited) Wow!!! Good afternoon sir, what an honor having you here in
the waiting room. I was expecting to be called to your office for the interview.

CEO: (Smiles) There is no interview. You have done and passed all the necessary interviews;
you were actually invited to receive your offer.

DANIEL: (Amazed) Really? But why do I have to wait this long to receive what is already
mine?

CEO: (Smiles) The best comes with the price of time. I was busy preparing the best for you and
waiting for the right time to give it to you.

DANIEL: (Sighs) Hmm…

CEO: What I give you will make you rich in satisfaction, contentment, peace, joy, fulfillment
and no sorrow shall be added to it. To help you wait for my time, I made available the resources
of Patience, Faith, Prayer, the Word and Joy. Unfortunately, John and Vincent could not make
use of these and as a result, they have missed my offer that I invested my time to prepare for
them, (he shakes his head) what a pity!!!

DANIEL: But sir, they already have another offer which is also lucrative.

CEO: (In disagreement) The offer is a counterfeit. It is destruction packaged with beauty.
Unknown to you, I’m very aware of the offer they got and the person they got it from; he is a

12
THE WAITING ROOM

deceiver and a liar that takes advantage of those who cannot be patient with me in my waiting
room. John and Vincent have already gotten the consequences of their action. John had a terrible
accident with the car he was given, he ran under a trailer and was crushed to death. Vincent on
the other hand, the house he was given could not withstand a terrible wind that blew because it
had a faulty foundation; the building crumbled and destroyed him and his entire family.

DANIEL: (Placing his hands on the head, exclaims) Oh my God!!!

CEO: This is the result of those that cannot wait for my time. Many have wasted my investment
for them because they cannot wait for their time of glory. What does my book says in Job 14:14?

DANIEL: (Opens and reads) If a man shall die, shall he live again? All the days of my
appointed time will I wait, till my change come.

CEO: Those that have an understanding of the appointed time are always ready and determined
to wait for it. Read Ecclesiastes 3:11a.

DANIEL: (Opens and reads) He hath made everything beautiful in his time.

CEO: All things are beautiful in my own time. (He brings out the offer letter) Take and go
through it (hands it over to Daniel.)

(Daniel open it and reads. He drops his jaw, dumbfounded because the offer is beyond his
expectation… in this joyous state; he awakes from his dream.)

13
THE WAITING ROOM

SCENE 2

(It is a dream… Daniel awake, realizes this is a revelation with a message for him from God.

He remembers the vision God gave him fifteen years ago while in school, that he is to go into full
time ministry with a promise of divine greatness – that he will be blessed with numerous children
– biological and spiritual. That Gentiles shall come to his light and kings shall come to the
brightness of his rising (Isaiah 60:3) and he shall stand before kings and not mean men
(Proverbs 22:29). He reminisces on two different occasions, how two different men of God
confirm this; after he had graduated from school and when he finished his NYSC programme.
The promise of God seem far-fetched, but now, God is giving this revelation as an
encouragement…

DANIEL: (Soliloquizing) My wife and I have been married for ten years now with no child of
our own. We have prayed and fasted severally for God to give us our own child; yet, it’s still the
same story, but the irony of this is that we pray for others trusting God for the fruit of the womb
and they come back with testimonies. God has used our ministry to bless many homes; turning
barrenness to fruitfulness. Some who have given up hope of having children, the moment they
have contact with us and we pray for them, they come back with the testimony, but we the
channels of blessings are yet to have a single child of our own and I wonder why? Hmm!
Families, friends and neighbors have mocked us, people have said all manner of things against
us; a lot of suggestions against the faith has been given to us which we have turned down, even
the ministry work has been frustrating. People come with different problems, once they get their
problems solved, they leave. While some others yet to receive answers to their prayer as
expected, get discouraged and also leave. God’s promise to me doesn’t seem to be a reality. I
have gotten to the point where my level of faith can no longer bear this anymore, but thanks to
God for renewing my strength with this revelation. Isaiah 40:31 – But they that wait upon the
Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and
not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.

(He stands up from the bed, goes to his reading table, he switches on the reading lamp, takes his
note pad and a pen, he tries to remember the writings on the wall of the waiting room in the
dream, and he writes them down with the scriptures. He reads and meditates on the scriptures,
afterwards, he kneels and prays, thanking God for the revelation and pleads that God should
help him to remain in his waiting room; he prays with so much energy and passion that his wife
hears him from sleep and joins him.

He notices his wife’s presence only when he had finished praying …)

DANIEL: (Surprised) Dear, you are here?

14
THE WAITING ROOM

RACHAEL: I heard you praying and I couldn’t help but join you. Honey, you so much
emphasized the word “waiting room” in your prayer. Is there a revelation you need to share with
me on this?

DANIEL: Yes dear, I had a dream

(Daniel shares the revelation with his wife…)

15
THE WAITING ROOM

SCENE 3

(At Rachael’s office … Rachael enters the office of the P.A to the MD to drop some documents
for the MD.)

RACHAEL: (Smiling) Good morning, my “oga” at the top.

ROSELINE: Who is your “oga” at the top? Please o, your “oga” at the top is in the next office
(referring to the MD.)

RACHAEL: (laughs) We all know that after the MD, it is you.

ROSELINE: I hear you madam.

RACHAEL: (laughs) Anyway, I came to drop these documents for MD’s approval.

ROSELINE: Okay, he’s currently in a meeting, as soon as he’s done, I will deliver them to him.

RACHAEL: Okay, thanks.

ROSELINE: Rachael, I will like to discuss something with you. I need to share with you my
concern as a friend.

RACHAEL: Okay, I’m listening.

ROSELINE: Honestly, I’m bothered about your childlessness and it amazes me that you don’t
feel bothered about it.

RACHAEL: (Smiles) What do you want me to do my friend? It is God that gives children; I
have prayed and I’m still praying; I believe God will answer.

ROSELINE: Rachael! How long will you continue to pray after how many years of marriage?
You have shared with me several times, how your husband prays for the barren and they bear
children; while you that is praying for them have no single child of your own. Is that not
ridiculous?

RACHAEL: (Smiles) Well, that’s to prove to us that it is God that gives children, it is God that
performs miracle, it is God that answers prayers; not man, man is just a vessel.

ROSELINE: Rachael! Our God is not a wicked God; I believe something is wrong somewhere.
You have checked yourself medically on several occasions and it’s confirmed you are okay; I
suspect your husband has an issue.

RACHAEL: (Getting upset) I beg your pardon Roseline! There’s nothing wrong with my
husband, he has gone for several medical checkup too and he’s confirmed okay.

16
THE WAITING ROOM

ROSELINE: Okay, calm down my friend; I can see you are getting upset. I have a suggestion
and I hope you will take it.

RACHAEL: And what is it?

ROSELINE: Do you know Mr. Fred Akingbade, MD’s friend?

RACHAEL: No, I don’t know him; what about him?

ROSELINE: Okay, he saw you some days ago when he came here and he admires you?

RACHAEL: (Curious) So …What are you insinuating?

ROSELINE: Well, he opened up to me that he likes you and I thought it will be an opportunity
for you to know whether it’s your husband that has issues or not.

RACHAEL: (Shocked and irritated) This is unbelievable Roseline! You have the guts to open
your mouth and spill out these rotten words. Our friendship ends here and now! Only official
matters bring us together henceforth; have a good day.

ROSELINE: Rachael! Rachael!! (Talking to herself) “e gbami” (meaning – someone help me)
Have I said anything wrong? But I was only trying to help.

(Roseline picks up her phone and calls Mr. Fred to give him an update…)

ROSELINE: Hello Mr. Fred

FRED: Hello Roseline; what’s up?

ROSELINE: I’m sorry, I don’t think this can work out sir; she almost ate me up when I told her.

FRED: (Laughs) Okay, thanks, no problem. I will handle it myself.

ROSELINE: Hmm! I suggest you forget this one o, she’s very faithful to her husband and to
God; her Christianity is A1; even this step I took, I just had to risk it to try my luck because of
the money involved.

FRED: (Giggling) Don’t worry Roseline, I understand you perfectly; this is not my first time of
handling people like her; I know what to do, thanks. Nevertheless, I will still credit your account,
at least for the effort.

ROSELINE: (Amazed and excited) Really? Thank you sir.

FRED: (Laughs) You are welcome. Can you come to my place tonight and let’s have some fun.

ROSELINE: (Amazed) Me! Wow!! No problem, I will be there.

17
THE WAITING ROOM

FRED: Okay then; see you later, bye.

(Rachael is at her desk shedding tears and saying to herself …)

RACHAEL: God! This mockery is getting too much for me to bear; I can’t imagine the only
person I trusted in this office with my life can suggest this awful and sinful act; this is
unbelievable! God, I know you are ever faithful, you have never failed and I know you will not
fail us.

18
THE WAITING ROOM

SCENE 4

(Pastor Daniel returns home from church. As he is entering into the house, his phone rings; it is
Brother James calling …)

DANIEL: Hello brother James

JAMES: Good evening Pastor; my wife gave birth sir.

DANIEL: (Excited) Praise the Lord! Thank you Jesus. A boy or a girl?

JAMES: She actually gave birth to twins – both are girls.

DANIEL: (Excited) Twins? Wow!!! God be praised.

JAMES: But, I’m not happy pastor

DANIEL: (Shocked) You are not happy? But why?

JAMES: You know I already have three girls before, I was hoping to have a boy to seal it up but
unfortunately, God added to us again two girls; a total of five girls. Its sad news for me, no single
boy; how much is even my salary to take care of all of them.

DANIEL: Brother James!!! You better don’t be an ungrateful fellow; when some are still
trusting God for just one child; you have five. Brother James, you have 1, 2, 3 and twins and you
are still complaining; may God have mercy on you.

JAMES: Hmm! Amen Pastor; you are right o, God should have mercy on me. I thank God.

(Pastor Daniel ends the call.)

DANIEL: (Talking to himself) What a funny world! My wife and I have been waiting on the
Lord for the past ten years just for one child and someone else has five, yet he’s complaining.
(Looking up) God, please give me and my wife the strength to pass through this.

(As Pastor Daniel moves towards his room, he is surprised to see the word ‘WAITING ROOM’
written boldly at the door post of the visitor’s room. He enters and sees the exact writings on the
wall of the waiting room in the dream; the more he looked, the more he is reminded of his
dream. Suddenly, his wife taps him at the back)

DANIEL: (A bit frightened) Oh dear! You are here? How was work today?

RACHAEL: It was fine, thank God.

DANIEL: You did this? (Referring to the writings on the wall)

19
THE WAITING ROOM

RACHAEL: Yes I did. When you shared the dream you had with me, I thought of creating a
picture in line with the dream to remind us that we are currently in our waiting room.

DANIEL: (Nods in agreement) Hmm… that’s quite thoughtful of you, I never thought of this.
So, you did this before leaving for work?

RACHAEL: Yes honey. I did not go to work early as usual today.

DANIEL: Okay. (He holds his wife’s hands) The Lord will help us to remain in our ‘waiting
room’. Very soon, the world will celebrate us and know truly that we are serving a living God.

RACHAEL: Amen!!!

(Both looking at the writings on the wall...)

RACHAEL: PATIENCE – This is very crucial at this time; waiting patiently on the Lord. Wait
on the Lord: be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart: wait I say on the Lord.
Psalm 27:14.

DANIEL: FAITH – This is also very important as we wait on the Lord; Faith is the substance of
things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. (Hebrews 11:1). But without Faith, it is
impossible to please him; for he that come to God must believe that he is, and that he is a
rewarder of them that diligently seek Him (Hebrews 11:6)

RACHAEL: WORD OF GOD – This is what our Faith is built upon. This book of the law shall
not depart out of our mouth, but we shall meditate there in day and night, that we may observe to
do according to all that is written therein: for then we shall make our way prosperous, and then
we shall have good success (Joshua 1:8)

DANIEL: PRAYER – This is our weapon to fight through. Pray without ceasing (1
Thessalonians 5:17)

RACHAEL: JOY – The joy of the Lord is our strength; joy is the inner strength that will carry
us through this journey of waiting. Rejoice in the Lord always: and again I say, Rejoice. (Phil
4:4)

(They kneel, weeping and praying… Later in the night, as Pastor Daniel and wife are about to
sleep; this conversation ensued…)

DANIEL: Dear, can you guess who I saw today?

RACHAEL: (Feeling sleepy) I can’t guess I’m tired, who did you see?

DANIEL: Okay, I saw Philip Martins, my course mate in school, while I was waiting for a bike
to take me to church.

20
THE WAITING ROOM

RACHAEL: (Amazed) Really? Philip Martins! That your naughty friend that will never allow
you rest until you teach him all the courses, as he will never attend classes.

DANIEL: Yes dear. Philip is now a big boy o, if you see his jeep, you won’t believe it. He took
me and dropped me at church.

RACHAEL: That’s good to hear, I’m happy for him; so, did he tell you where he works or the
kind of job he does?

DANIEL: Yes he did, he’s actually a CEO of his own company. He said he’s running a textile
company

RACHAEL: Wow… that’s good, thank God for him.

DANIEL: This life can be very funny, imagine Philip that I do take on tutorials then, he would
never come to class, though he ended up having a third class but today he’s doing well. I
couldn’t even stand him as a first class graduate.

RACHAEL: Honey!! I don’t like when you talk like this; why are you comparing yourself with
someone else? Have you forgotten the great man that you are? Have you forgotten the great and
wonderful promise of God for your life and ministry? You had a first class but you heard God
clearly that you should not look unto your certificate but unto him because your job is the
assignment he has given to you.

DANIEL: I know dear, I’ve not forgotten; I’m just been realistic here.

RACHAEL: The vision of God for your life and ministry is a reality, you need to begin to see
yourself in it; you shared this vision with me and I believed without any doubt and God
confirmed it to me too. I married a great man with great potentials.

DANIEL: (Smiles) Thanks a lot dear, I really appreciate you anytime, any day; for believing in
me and standing by me; thank you so much dear.

RACHAEL: Thank God honey and thank you also for always been there for me. The vision is
for an appointed time, though it tarries, it will surely come to pass

DANIEL: Amen!!! Yes, I believe. Philip gave me his address; he wants me to visit him. I should
probably go tomorrow.

RACHAEL: Okay dear, please just be careful and always remember the great man that you are.

DANIEL: (Smiles) Yes mummy, I have heard you ma.

RACHAEL: (Smiles) Who is your mummy?

(They both laugh and go sleep afterwards…)

21
THE WAITING ROOM

SCENE 5

At Philip’s residence … Philip is performing some ritual rite as an occult member in his ‘power
room’. He is invoking the demonic spirit as he offers human blood, a renewal of covenant for
more wealth. In the course of this, a demonic spirit appears and receives the blood sacrifice.

PHILIP: (Bows in worship) The Black serpent!!! My Lord!!! Thank you for accepting my
sacrifice; let this yield me more wealth, more influence & power and make me more famous.

DEMON: Your request is granted.

PHILIP: Thank you Black serpent (bows.)

DEMON: But there is one more thing you must do, for you to sustain and have more wealth.
You will trade part of your wealth for someone with a glorious destiny; once the person accepts
your offer of wealth, he has automatically sold his glorious destiny to you and then you will have
more wealth and become stronger and influential.

PHILIP: Thank you Black serpent. But how do I go about this? How do I know or recognize
someone with a glorious destiny?

DEMON: Take this (He gives Philip a powder.) Rub this powder on your face; with it you will
recognize the person to use. The first person you see a crown with shining star on his/her fore
head is the one you will use. Make sure the person accepts your offer of wealth within seven
days of contacting the person.

PHILIP: Thank you Black serpent. But what if the person does not accept my offer within the
seven days?

DEMON: (In a loud voice) Then you lose all you have and become miserable for life.

PHILIP: (Screams) Haaaa!!!

(The demon disappears immediately…)

22
THE WAITING ROOM

SCENE 6

(Pastor Daniel enters Philip’s compound and marvels at the beauty of his mansion up to when he
gets into the living room, as one of Philip’s security men leads him in. As soon as he sits down,
Philip’s chef comes in and informs him of the food menu and drinks for him to make his choice;
he is confused asking if he is in a restaurant or a house but he had to compose himself and chose
a menu. In few minutes, the meal is served, he is scared seeing the food served, because it is
beyond what he only could consume – rice with a big lap of turkey, assorted meats, fruits of
various kinds, juice and wine. He could not eat until Philip came in, as different thoughts were
running through his mind.

Immediately Philip sees Pastor Daniel, he notices a crown with shining star on his head exactly
as the demon had said…)

PHILIP: (Hails) Pastor Daniel!!! The great man of God!!!

DANIEL: (Smiles) Here comes his majesty. Philip, I never knew you are from a royal family.

PHILIP: (Smiling) And why do you say that?

DANIEL: It’s obvious from what I have seen. Observing the protocol from your gate to the
living room, even your living room is like a palace, and look at the food in front of me, only
kings eat these kind of food.

PHILIP: (Laughs uncontrollably) You are funny Daniel (still laughing) let’s just thank God my
friend, it’s the Lord’s doing.

DANIEL: Hmm… I thank God for you Philip; this life is a funny place, we only know today, we
don’t know tomorrow. I remember those lecturers then, they will be telling us that no future for
students that don’t make either first class or second class upper (hissed) but look at you today.

PHILIP: (Brags) Well, we thank God my friend, I am what I am today by the grace of God.

DANIEL: Alleluia, God be praised. But Philip, can you share your testimony with me? How did
you get to this point?

PHILIP: Honestly, when people ask me this question, I find it difficult to answer because I can’t
explain the wonders of God in my life. I can only say I’m just a product of God’s mercy and
favor.

DANIEL: (Nods his head) hmm…

PHILIP: Daniel, don’t worry, you will get to understand better soon. Let’s talk about you. I’ve
been concerned about you since we met yesterday. I can never forget how you were a true friend
to me back on campus; I was never a serious student, I don’t attend classes but whenever I come

23
THE WAITING ROOM

to you to teach me, you didn’t neglect me, you didn’t even mind taking your time to teach me till
I understood. So many things you did in my life that I cannot mention. So, I have always
imagined that Daniel the genius will be working in employment of one of the big companies now
making cool money, until I saw you.

Daniel, I need to tell you the truth, this vision you claim to have that demands you to be a full-
time pastor and you are suffering cannot be from God, our God is not a wicked God. If it’s from
God, I believe you wouldn’t be at the level that you are now; I’m sure by now, you would have
been one of those pastors that are making waves in the world today. Anyway, I’m not saying you
should not be a pastor but you need a job alongside to earn good income to take care of yourself
and family; you are a first class graduate for goodness sake, you are hot cake in the industry, why
are you wasting your potentials, Daniel?

DANIEL: (Smiles) Thank you very much Philip for your concern, I’m grateful. I’m very sure of
what I’m doing; God specifically instructed me to do what I’m doing and I have to obey Him.
Moreover, I’m not suffering as you said, I’m doing fine.

PHILIP: You are not doing fine, Daniel; stop deceiving yourself and let’s be truthful to
ourselves. I can’t stop you from doing what you claim God told you to do but as long our paths
have crossed again; your life must change. I believe God arranged that we meet again so I can
pay back all you have done for me.

DANIEL: Come on Philip, what have I done that is so special? Let’s thank God for everything.

PHILIP: You don’t understand Daniel. I have a special gift for you in my company tomorrow;
please can you come around 12 noon? I will send one of my drivers to pick you up.

DANIEL: A gift? (Curious) okay, no problem.

PHILIP: Great!

(Philip gets his cheque book and writes a sum of ₦1m in favor of Daniel.)

PHILIP: Accept this token from me Daniel (gives Pastor Daniel the cheque.)

DANIEL: (Shocked) What!!! One million naira!!! This is much Philip.

PHILIP: It’s nothing Daniel; I’ve not even started (laughs.)

DANIEL: Thank you very much Philip, God bless you.

PHILIP: Amen!!!

DANIEL: (Curious) Philip, pardon my manners, I have not even asked about your wife and
kids.

24
THE WAITING ROOM

PHILIP: I lost my wife three years ago and she did not give birth to any child when she was
alive.

DANIEL: (Sober) Oh, sorry about this Philip.

PHILIP: (Smiles) It’s okay, thank you.

DANIEL: I hope you are planning to re-marry?

PHILIP: Well, I’m still thinking about it.

DANIEL: I can understand, God will guide and help you.

PHILIP: Amen; thanks. Daniel, eat your food.

(Daniel eats the food and leaves Philip’s residence afterwards…)

25
THE WAITING ROOM

SCENE 7

(At Rachael’s office … The MD – Mr. Olumide calls Rachael to inform her to prepare for an
outing by 2pm. When it is time, they set out without Rachael having an idea where they were
going. Roseline peeps through the window as they both leave the office, she smiles.

They are going to the restaurant where big men eat and have fun; Mr. Fred is already there
waiting. Rachael is confused and full of fears but could not question her boss.

Upon arrival, they go straight to the table where Mr. Fred is sitting, while the MD does the
introduction.)

OLUMIDE: So, Rachael; the purpose of this meeting is simple, my friend here – Fred; told me
he likes you and that he will like to know you, so I brought you here to meet him. I will leave
you both to yourselves, have a nice time and have fun.

(Mr. Olumide and Mr. Fred both laugh and shake each other, then Mr. Olumide takes his
leave…)

RACHAEL: (Talking to herself) Oh my God! What sort of rubbish is this? I can’t imagine MD
can be so stupid to bring himself so low; I’m so much disappointed in him; hmm! Rejecting this
nonsense is to ultimately lose my job – Ahh!! God, what kind of temptation is this? (Takes a
deep breath) Well, it’s rather better to fear God than to fear men.

FRED: Hello – o!!! Are you there?

RACHAEL: Mr. Man; Fred or whatever you call yourself, I don’t have any business with you:
good day!!! (Stands up and leaves immediately)

FRED: (Laughs and claps) I hope you get another job in good time. (He picks up his phone and
calls his friend – the MD) Your girl is a fool! Get her fired at once.

(Rachael did not bother going back to the office because she believed that is the end of her job;
she is sobbing as she returns home.)

RACHAEL: (Talking to herself) God, what kind of temptation did you allow me enter into?
You know I can’t break my marital vow, you know this job means a lot to my family; oh God!
Why did you allow this to happen to me? Why?

(Entering the house, she meets her husband, who is amazed seeing his wife come back home at
the time of the day…)

DANIEL: Dear, what happened? Why are you home at this time? You don’t seem to be happy?
Talk to me; what’s the matter? (Curious)

RACHAEL: I lost my Job (She bursts into tears.)

26
THE WAITING ROOM

DANIEL: (Shocked) What!!! Oh my God! How did it happen? What did you do? What was your
offence? Talk to me dear.

(Rachael opens up to her husband telling him exactly what had happened.)

DANIEL: Hmm…it’s well. Look at me dear, you don’t need to cry on this matter at all because
you have done the right thing and God is happy with you right now; so relax, all will be well. I
know why you are bothered, don’t worry yourself; our God still remains faithful. God closes a
door to open another great door. I believe everything is working together for our good. (Smiles)

RACHAEL: (Puzzled) Honey, what do you mean?

DANIEL: (Smiling) I have good news for you; but I want you to go inside, take a cool shower
and get refreshed first.

RACHAEL: (Faint smile) Really?

DANIEL: Yeah.

(So she grants her husband’s request… she returns some minutes later.)

DANIEL: Wow! Look at my beautiful angel, she’s back and refreshed.

RACHAEL: (Smiles) I’m blushing…

(They both laugh…)

DANIEL: I’m happy to see you excited now. Like I said earlier, all things are working for our
good. I was at Philip’s house this morning; hmm! It’s not even a house, it’s a mansion; God has
really blessed him so much. You need to see this mansion yourself, you will be amazed. He gave
us a cheque of one million naira as his token gift to us.

RACHAEL: (Unimpressed) Oh! That’s kind of him.

DANIEL: He also told me to come to his company tomorrow as he has something special for us;
I strongly believe God wants to use Philip to bless this family.

RACHAEL: Hmm!

DANIEL: (Confused) Dear, you don’t seem to be excited at what I have said, you are just quiet.

RACHAEL: Honey, please I beg you, don’t be carried away with the riches of an old friend that
you just met after about fifteen years; do you know the true source of his riches, do you know
how genuine is it?

DANIEL: (Laughs) I understand you very well dear, you don’t need to worry yourself; I’m sure
his wealth is genuine; my spirit is not against it. I believe meeting Philip is divine.

27
THE WAITING ROOM

RACHAEL: Okay o, if you say so.

(In the middle of the night … Rachael suddenly awakes from her sleep, she had had a
nightmare…

She sees her husband moving with an old man who is taking him to receive a special gift he has
for him. Suddenly a young man appears to them with a box wrapped with gold – very attractive
and appealing, he convinces Pastor Daniel to leave the old man, saying he has nothing to offer
him and come for his own lovely gift which is already available. The old man warns him not go
for the gift, for it is deception but he does not listen as he is attracted to the gift. He goes for the
gift and collects it; with so much joy and expectation in his heart, he unties the wrapper and
opens the box; he screams and drops the box as he sees a snake inside. He runs and looks for the
old man but unfortunately the old man is gone. As he pants in fear and regret, two horrible
looking men appear with rods in their hands and they are about to hit the rod on Pastor Daniel
when Rachael wakes up and screams JESUS!!!

Pastor Daniel and his wife pray all through the night as a result of this nightmare…)

28
THE WAITING ROOM

SCENE 8

(The next day … Philip’s driver arrives to pick up Pastor Daniel as planned. As he is leaving,
Rachael is troubled in her spirit about her husband’s meeting with Philip, but she has no choice
than to let him go. As Pastor Daniel enters into the car, he receives a call from Pastor Demola –
their regional Pastor)

DEMOLA: Hello Pastor Daniel

DANIEL: (Amazed) Good morning Daddy. I’m surprised to receive your call; hope all is well
sir?

DEMOLA: All is well. A quick one Pastor Daniel; God gave me a message for you

DANIEL: (Surprised) Message?

DEMOLA: Yes. I was having a study on Jacob and Esau this morning; where Esau sold his
birthright to Jacob for a plate of food to satisfy his hunger. God told me to warn you to be careful
not be like Esau. Don’t sell your destiny for a plate of food like Esau.

DANIEL: (Confused) Daddy, this is strange sir, I’m confused, I don’t understand this message.

DEMOLA: Pastor Daniel! Pray! Pray for deeper insight and pray that you don’t fall a victim
like Esau. I’m also praying for you here, all will be well.

DANIEL: Amen! Thank you Daddy.

DEMOLA: You are welcome. Have a great day.

(On arrival at Philip’s company, Philip takes him round the factory where the textile materials
are been produced; he shows him all his workers, the production processes and the amount of
products produced. Pastor Daniel is amazed seeing how massive the size of the factory, the
numerous workers and the volumes of products produced.

Afterwards, Philip takes him to his office along with his G.M – Mr. Kolade who runs the factory
on his behalf. He introduces Mr. Kolade to Pastor Daniel and …)

PHILIP: Like I told you earlier that I have a gift for you; it’s a lifetime investment that will be
of a great benefit to you, to your family and your ministry.

DANIEL: (Anxious) Really? And what could this gift be?

PHILIP: By God’s grace, this company is one of God’s numerous blessings in my life; God has
laid it in my heart to sow it to you.

DANIEL: (Shocked) Sow what?

29
THE WAITING ROOM

PHILIP: (Smiles) I’m transferring the ownership of this company to you; it becomes yours from
now.

DANIEL: (Flabbergasted) Philip! Tell me this is a joke.

PHILIP: (Smiles) I’m serious, I’ve told you that you can’t meet me and remain the way you are.
You did a lot in my life while in school, so it’s time to pay back. You may be bothered about this
affecting your time and ministry; you need not worry, Mr. kolade here will help you in running
the company; you can depend on him, he’s trustworthy, reliable and also a devoted Christian.

DANIEL: (Bemused) Philip, tell me I’m dreaming.

PHILIP: (Bragging, Smiles) You are not, it’s a reality. In addition to being the new CEO of this
company by signing the necessary documents; you are entitled to a car of your choice and a
property on the Island.

DANIEL: (Astonished) Wow! Wow! Wow! Philip, this is too much, totally unbelievable.

PHILIP: So, are you accepting my gift?

DANIEL: Yes, I will. Thank you so much!

(Philip presents some documents to Pastor Daniel…)

PHILIP: Kindly sign these documents as evidence of acceptance.

(Immediately, Pastor Daniel takes his pen to sign the documents, he suddenly remembers the
dream he had where John and Vincent were deceived by Chief Bankole’s offer; his wife’s dream
and Pastor Demola’s warning…)

PHILIP: Daniel, what’s the matter? Sign these documents.

DANIEL: No, Philip, I can’t sign now please; I need to pray about this first.

PHILIP: (Transfixed) Pray? You need to pray on what God has blessed you with already? I
don’t understand.

DANIEL: I’m sorry Philip; I just need to pray about it because God has specifically called me
for the ministry work; he has not told me to run any business alongside.

PHILIP: Daniel, I’ve thought about that, and that’s why I told you that Mr. Kolade here will run
this company on your behalf so it doesn’t affect your time for ministry.

DANIEL: Philip, I really appreciate your concern for me but I still need to pray.

PHILIP: (Perturbed) No! You don’t appreciate my concern because if you do, you will not
reject my offer.

30
THE WAITING ROOM

DANIEL: I’ve not rejected your offer; I only said I want to pray about it. Please give me some
time; I will get back to you.

PHILIP: Daniel, I don’t have all the time; my days are numbered!

DANIEL: (Bewildered) Your days are numbered? What do you mean?

PHILIP: Sorry, don’t mind me, I meant em…, I don’t have much time; you know I’m a very
busy person. Just give me the exact day; you will get back to me.

DANIEL: Like in two weeks

PHILIP: (Screams) Two weeks… what!!!

DANIEL: (Confused) Is it too far?

PHILIP: Daniel, you need to get back to me this week and it must be positive because I’ve
boasted about you amongst my friends that you are taking over this company and they are ready
to celebrate you this weekend. It’s going to be a big party; please don’t let me look foolish before
them. Get back to me positively before this weekend.

DANIEL: Okay, no problem. Let me take my leave now.

PHILIP: Okay, my driver will take you back.

DANIEL: Don’t you want to see me off?

PHILIP: I’m sorry, I have loads of work on my desk.

DANIEL: Okay, later.

(Pastor Daniel leaves at once, as Philip feels disappointed...)

PHILIP: (Soliloquizing) What kind of bad luck is this? (bangs the table) haaa….eeeh… and I
have five days left for him to accept this offer, what do I do ooo? eeeh!!! The Black serpent said
I will lose all I have and my life will become miserable if he doesn’t accept my offer…No!!!
This will not happen, I reject it.

31
THE WAITING ROOM

SCENE 9

(Pastor Daniel reaches home and gives his wife a feedback of his meeting with Philip…)

RACHAEL: You see dear, I must tell you the truth; my spirit doesn’t really agree with you
doing anything with Philip since you told me about him, I don’t know why. You won’t believe
I’ve been praying for you since you left to see him; that God will guide you and not allow you to
make any error.

DANIEL: Hmm… I suspect there’s something wrong; because the urgency in which he wanted
me to sign the documents, appears that there’s a hidden agenda. (Sighs)I wonder how on earth he
became so wealthy.

RACHAEL: Honey, please be careful with him and try to avoid him as best as you can.

DANIEL: Yes dear, thanks. I won’t make use of that cheque he gave me till I know how
genuine his wealth is?

RACHAEL: I’m glad your eyes are now open.

(Suddenly, there is a knock on the door and Rachael goes to check who that might be and on
opening the door, she surprisingly sees her MD and his driver.)

DRIVER: Good afternoon madam Rachael.

RACHAEL: Good afternoon sir, (to MD) this is wonderful. To what do I owe the August
presence of the MD of a reputable organization in the house of his subordinate?

DRIVER: Ha… Don’t say that madam Rachael.

RACHAEL: Okay sir (to MD.) I guess I have no reason to panic, the worse that could happen is
to lose my job, which I have done voluntarily and if you have come to give me my termination
letter, it’s okay, I will take it with joy.

MD: Rachael… you are concluding too fast, no one has told you to leave your job, just be calm
and listen to what I have to say

RACHAEL: Okay, I’m listening sir.

(Daniel comes to the door to see who his wife is having a conversation with. On seeing the MD
and his driver, he immediately ushers them in…)

MD: Thank you so much Mr. Daniel for permitting us to come into your house, I’m sure some
other men would have taken it the other way round.

DANIEL: It’s okay sir. So, why are you here?

32
THE WAITING ROOM

MD: I was about explaining the reason for my visit when you showed up. (Remorseful) What I
did to your wife is common among ‘big guys’ in the society. We do it to compensate ourselves
as friends and most women even the married fall for it; this gave me the impression that all
women are the same but your wife proved me wrong. Although, I was very upset by her action,
when I got home yester night, I don’t know what came over me. I became restless realizing how
stupid I have been messing around with the wives of other men; will I like others to do same
with my wife? How could I descend so low to lure my staff for extra-marital affair? I must
confess to you, I could not sleep, I had a miserable night and as I speak to you, I have no peace
of mind; I’ve come to seek your wife’s forgiveness for this shameful act of mine so I can have
peace and for her to take back her job.

RACHAEL: Hmm…It’s okay sir, I forgive you from my heart, and you remain my boss.

(Thankful…they all laugh…)

MD: (Grateful) Thank you very much Rachael, now I have peace. So, when are you resuming?

RACHAEL: You are the boss sir, whatever you say sir.

(They all laugh…)

MD: Okay, if you say so. This week is gone already, today is Thursday. So please resume on
Monday.

RACHAEL: Okay boss, as your Lordship pleases sir.

(They all laugh again…Then the MD writes a cheque of ₦500,000.00 in favor of Rachael
Adebayo as a gift of appreciation to her family. Pastor Daniel and Rachael are shocked at this
and appreciative, with so much joy in their hearts. Pastor Daniel in turn gives the MD an audio
CD and a tract as he takes his leave.

Pastor Daniel and his wife kneel in praise to God knowing, it could only be His doing for the
MD to have had trouble in his heart, to submit himself to come down to their house and even
give them money in appreciation and restore the job they thought was lost.)

33
THE WAITING ROOM

SCENE 10

(Late in the night at the MD’s (Mr. Olumide) residence…he picks up the tract and the CD given
to him by Pastor Daniel; the tract titled “WAGES OF SIN”. He reads the tract four times as he
can’t control himself with the hard truths contained in it. He also plays the Audio CD on his
laptop. He listens to the message and before long; he is on the floor sobbing in deep tears,
asking God for forgiveness and eventually gives his life to Christ in the process.

His wife (Sandra) hearing his voice from her sleep, is surprised to see her husband shedding
tears like a baby…)

SANDRA: Sweet heart, what happened to you? Why are you crying?

OLUMIDE: (Still sobbing) Dear, can you believe, I have been on the path to hell all my life?

SANDRA: (Confused) Path to hell?

(He gives his wife the tract and the CD case…)

OLUMIDE: After I read this tract and listened to the message, I realized I was on the path to
hell. I’ve been a servant of the devil all along, the place of eternal destruction would have been
my destination; but I thank God that He said if I confess my sins and ask for forgiveness, He will
show me mercy and if I surrender my life to Him; He will accept me and make me His son.

(Sandra is speechless, tears rolling down her eyes, she says to herself…)

SANDRA: God, so you can change my husband’s life? So my husband can believe there is hell?
So my years of kneeling in prayers are not in vain? So a day like this can actually come where no
one will preach to my husband; just through a tract and an audio message he gave his life to
Christ. Hmm! Am I dreaming? Unbelievable! Truly, God answers prayers, though it may take a
while, it may look as if God is silent to your prayer, God is faithful in answering prayers. My
testimony will truly encourage other women out there who have lost hope in their husbands; they
will learn that consistency in prayer is never a waste of time.

34
THE WAITING ROOM

SCENE 11

(At Philip’s residence … he is in the ‘power room’ eulogizing the black serpent to seek for help.
The Black serpent suddenly appears demanding for his request…)

BLACK SERPENT: Philip, what do you want me to do for you?

PHILIP: (Fearful) Black serpent, please I need you to help me. You told me I only have seven
days to exchange my wealth for greater wealth and influence from a person of glorious destiny I
will have first contact with and if I’m unable to do this, I will lose all I have. The first person I
had contact with happened to be an old friend and I thought it would be easy but unfortunately
he’s proving difficult; I have done everything within my powers to convince him but he’s not
yielding. I only have two days left, the Black serpent; please help me to compel him to accept my
offer.

BLACK SERPENT: (Laughs) Unfortunately, you can’t compel him; he must only accept your
request without being forced, he must be willing. So, you have to do all you can to convince him.

PHILIP: (Worried) But the Black serpent, I have tried my best but he’s not yielding.

BLACK SERPENT: Then your best is not enough, convince him the more (laughs and
disappears.)

PHILIP: (Puts his two hands on his head) Eeeh…, my life is finished. What kind of bad luck is
this? I can’t afford to lose all I have, where do I start from? No, it won’t happen.

(He leaves the ‘power room’ and enters into his living room, thinking of what he could do to
convince Pastor Daniel to accept his offer. As he is pacing around, Pastor Daniel suddenly
enters...)

PHILIP: (Astound) Daniel! You didn’t tell me you were coming, hope all is well? Or have you
considered my request?

DANIEL: (Grinning) Yes, I have considered your request, I’m ready to take it.

PHILIP: (Excited) Wow! That’s great. For accepting my request, it calls for celebration.

DANIEL: I will accept on one condition.

PHILIP: (Surprised) Condition!! Okay, what’s the condition?

DANIEL: If you can honestly tell me why you are desperate to hand over your lifetime
investment to me?

PHILIP: (Startled) What do you mean Daniel? Who told you I’m desperate? You know how
much God has blessed me. I have many businesses I run, the one I’m giving you is just one of

35
THE WAITING ROOM

them, and it does not cost me anything. And I have told you that I want to pay back all the good
you did to me, because I will not have peace of mind if I don’t do it.

DANIEL: (Smiles) Okay Philip, I appreciate you so much for your generosity towards me; but
I’m sorry to say I’m not interested in your offer.

PHILIP: (Offended) What!!!

DANIEL: And I have also come to return the cheque you gave me, I don’t want it again (hands
over the cheque to Philip.)

PHILIP: (Stupefied) Daniel! Are you out of your mind?

DANIEL: Have a nice day, friend.

(He stands and leaves immediately. Philip becomes mad and almost destroys everything in the
house).

THE WAITING ROOM

SCENE 12

(At Mr. Olumide’s office (MD) … Rachael is with the MD as he shares with her his salvation
experience. As the conversation continues, Mr. Fred walks in and is very upset to see Rachael
with the MD.)

FRED: Olumide, what is this arrogant and manner less lady doing here with you? I thought
you’ve dismissed her?

RACHAEL: (To the MD) Sir, please let me take my leave.

OLUMIDE: No, you are not leaving until I tell you to. (To Fred) Point of correction Fred;
Rachael is my staff, she’s a woman of integrity and honour and she deserves to be treated as
such; so I will like you to apologize to her for addressing her in such a rude manner.

FRED: (Confused and irritated) Am I dreaming here? Did I hear you well Olumide? Are you
out of your mind? I should apologize to this ill-mannered and uncultured girl?

OLUMIDE: Okay, enough Fred. This is my office and I’ve taken enough from you. Now, listen
up, I’m the MD of this organization, you are not, so I decide who works with me or not, Rachael
is my staff and she remains a staff of this organization.

FRED: (Claps) Bravo! Now I understand this whole game. Olumide, so you’ve been fooling me
all along. You planned this whole thing right? I thought so too…which woman in this day and
age will be so confident to risk her job? So it’s your handiwork? You want to have her to
yourself alone, right? You have done well; you will regret this Olumide, I promise you (walks
away.)

OLUMIDE: (Laughs) You can do nothing.

37
THE WAITING ROOM

SCENE 13

At Philip’s company … One of Philip’s vendors comes in to deliver some items Philip ordered
for his personal use; he decides to make payment immediately and he is shocked to see that he
has zero balances in all his accounts. He is about to call his accountant when he receives a call
that the ship conveying their goods abroad capsized by a terrible storm. He gets another call
that his mansion is on fire; as he drops the call, one of his staff rushes in to inform him that the
factory has collapsed and some workers have been seriously injured. Immediately, he runs to
check what is happening, he falls down on the staircase and is seriously injured.

(Philip and the injured staff are immediately rushed to the hospital, though some die,
unfortunately.)

38
THE WAITING ROOM

SCENE 14

(Few days later … Pastor Daniel and Rachael are informed about what had happened to Philip
through Mr. Kolade, so they both visit him in the hospital.

Philip confesses to Pastor Daniel the reason for his predicament and how he came about his
riches.)

PHILIP: (In pains he recounts) After our youth service, I struggled to get a job but it was not
forthcoming, I faced a lot of rejection. I hustled and did all manner of petty jobs just to put body
and soul together. I lost my parents who were my only hope of survival during this period; my
relatives and siblings deserted me, I suffered and bore my cross alone. One fateful day, I
stumbled on an old friend, he was wealthy and very influential, I was intimidated by his wealth
and I was ready to do anything to be like him; so I got close to him. I had series of warning
through dreams and friends to be patient and careful of this old friend but I paid attention to
none. This old friend introduced me to an occult group through which I acquired riches beyond
my expectation, only to later realize these riches come with costly sacrifices. Unknown to me, I
sacrificed my manhood for it, so I can’t marry; I can’t have an affair with any woman. I actually
lied to you that I was married before and that I lost my wife. Every year, we renew our covenant
by shedding human blood in order to sustain and increase our wealth.

DANIEL/RACHAEL: (Exclaimed) Jesus!!!

PHILIP: This time around, when I did the usual covenant renewal; they demanded for
something new – an exchange of my wealth for someone with a glorious destiny and you Daniel
were the one, I was directed to meet to obtain this request. That’s why I have been persuading
you to take over my company; the moment you accept the offer, you automatically sell your
glorious destiny to me.

DANIEL/RACHAEL: (Horrified) Jesus Christ!!!

PHILIP: God really saved you Daniel… it would have been disastrous, had you accepted my
offer. Please, continue to hold on to the God you serve. Despite all the sacrifices made, I still lost
everything I acquired – money, houses, cars, all my investments; they are all gone. Now, my legs
are paralyzed and my left hand amputated; haaa!!! What a wasted life! (He laments) If only I was
patient, hmm… if only I held on just a little longer. Few weeks after I joined the occult group, I
got a good job offer from a company I applied to but it was already late (cries bitterly.)

(Pastor Daniel and wife try to console him but suddenly, he starts vomiting blood and dies in the
process.)

39
THE WAITING ROOM

SCENE 15

At Fred’s residence; Fred, Roseline and Capon (An Hire killer) are in the living room. Fred
filling the air with smokes of cigarette speaks:

FRED: (In a deep voice) Capon! Capon!!

CAPON: Yes boss!

FRED: There’s an assignment for you. A friend has betrayed me, and you know, no one steps on
the tail of a cobra and remain the same. No one betrays the scorpion and go scot free. (To
Roseline) What judgment shall we give to your friend?

ROSELINE: Death! I want her dead!! She’s now flirting around with the MD; she has suddenly
become a superstar in the office, she now has access to the MD’s office any time. She has
become the most important staff to the MD. Kill her, so I can have some breathing space.

FRED: (Chortles) Good girl, that’s why I like you. (Brings out two pictures of the MD &
Rachael and gives to Capon) I want those two dead between now and tomorrow evening.

CAPON: (Looks at the pictures and giggles) Okay boss.

ROSELINE: The two of them have scheduled a meeting outside the office tomorrow for 2pm;
ensure you get close to the office before 2pm to await them. (Brings out her card) Here’s my
card for the company’s address. I will also call you for updates.

FRED: Capon!!! I want a perfect job, no traces, and no mistakes.

CAPON: You can count on me boss.

FRED: I trust you. Your account with the credited now with the first payment while you get the
balance once the job is done.

CAPON: Okay boss. Let me take my leave now.

(As he leaves, Fred and Roseline laugh and celebrate ahead with different brands of wine)

40
THE WAITING ROOM

SCENE 16

Capon recognizes Rachael having looked at the pictures, so he goes straight to her house.

He knocks at the door…

DANIEL: (Responding from the living room) Who is at the door?

CAPON: It’s me Chris, one of your church members.

DANIEL: (Puzzled) Chris! My church member!!

(Pastor Daniel opens the door and welcomes him. Rachael is also in the living room…)

DANIEL: Mr. Chris, you are welcome sir. You said you are one of my church members, but I’m
sorry, I don’t think I’ve met you before, (to Rachael) or have you?

CAPON: (Smiles) You don’t know me and you have not seen me before but I know you. All
members know their pastor but pastors don’t know all their members.

DANIEL: (laughs in agreement) You are right sir; a lot of people come to church and we don’t
know them; and it happens most times because many don’t indicate when we call for first timers
and they run away before the end of service.

RACHAEL: (Joins in the laughter) They just sneak in and sneak out.

DANIEL: (Nods in agreement) Yes, that’s very true!!! So Mr. Chris, why are you here by this
time of the night and how may we help you?

CAPON: My parent named me Chris; but on the streets, I’m called Capon, I’m a hire killer; I
kill people for a living.

DANIEL/RACHAEL: (Exclaim; shivering) Jesus!!!

CAPON: I’ve been paid to kill Mrs. Rachael Adebayo.

DANIEL/RACHAEL: (Yell) Yeh! Jesus!

DANIEL: (Quavering) Mr. Chris, sorry, Mr. Capon; please don’t kill my wife, I beg you in the
name of God.

CAPON: I’m not killing anyone; as you can see, I came here harmless; no gun, no machete,
nothing harmful.

RACHAEL: (A little relieve) Ah! Thank you…aah.

DANIEL: Thank you, God bless you sir... (pants.)

41
THE WAITING ROOM

(Capon brings out his phone and plays a recorded audio of Fred and Roseline, instructing him to
kill Rachael and the MD.)

CAPON: That’s Mr. Fred, your MD’s friend and Roseline, your MD’s P.A. They sent me to kill
you and your MD (brings out the pictures) these are your pictures.

DANIEL: (Shocked) Jesus Christ!!!

RACHAEL: (Perplexed) This is unbelievable! Roseline and Mr. Fred sent you to kill me and
my MD! But why will they do such evil?

DANIEL: (Curious) Mr. Chris, this is a big shock to us, honestly speaking. Oh my God!
(Stuttering) But… but why are you revealing this to us (turning to his wife and back to Capon)?
Why have you decided to do so?

CAPON: (To Rachael) Well, I don’t know why they want you and your MD dead, but I’ve
refused to honour this assignment because I recognized you the moment I saw your picture. I
know you and Pastor very well. Your ministry has been a blessing to my family and I can never
forget this. A sister of mine whom I love so much was childless for about five years. She was
about to be thrown out of her husband’s house when she came to you for prayers; few weeks
after, she became pregnant. She narrated to me how you encouraged and stood by her after she
came to you for prayers.

RACHAEL: (Puzzled) That must be sister kike?

CAPON: Exactly. That’s her name – kike

DANIEL: (Elated) Wow! God be praised.

CAPON: I came to your church when she was dedicating the child; that’s where I knew you
both. My heart melted when I saw mummy pastor’s picture and I said to myself, that I will
honour this assignment. I’m ready to take the risk.

DANIEL/RACHAEL: (Dumbfounded) Hmm!!!

CAPON: (kneeling) Pastor, please pray for me, I don’t want to continue this evil work again. I
have shed so much blood, I have destroyed so many lives; I doubt if God can forgive me.

DANIEL: (Delighted) He can forgive you Mr. Chris, no matter the magnitude of sins you have
committed.

(Pastor Daniel prays for him and leads him to Christ.)

42
THE WAITING ROOM

SCENE 17

(At a Police Station; Fred and Roseline have been arrested. The MD, Pastor Daniel and Rachael
come to check on them.)

MD: Fred! What exactly have we done to you that you want to kill us? You want to kill me
because of a woman; a married woman for that matter, Fred! Even you Roseline, I thought you
are my personal assistant that I could trust, you gang up with Fred to kill me your boss and your
colleague; what a wicked world! Listen to me both of you, I have a counsel for you, give your
life to Christ and let him change your life. I have given my life to Christ and He has changed my
life completely; I’m now a new man. It is Jesus that saved me and Rachael from your hands,
He’s the one that touched the heart of the hire killer you sent to us to expose you both. As we
speak now, the hire killer is now born again; he’s a changed person now. See how wonderful
Jesus is? Will you both give your lives to Jesus now, so He can also change and beautify your
life too?

(Both of them hard-hearted refuse to yield to the MD’s counsel. After a while, a policeman
comes and takes them back to the cell.)

43
THE WAITING ROOM

SCENE 18

At the Regional Pastor’s office; Pastor Daniel and Rachael are with Pastor Demola in his office.
They share their testimony of the awesome things God did in their lives recently…

DEMOLA: Wow! What an amazing God! The devil knows you have a great destiny, he knows
you have a great ministry in your hands, so he will do everything possible to abort it but
unfortunately for him, he has failed; the more he tries to, the more God prevails.

DANIEL: Yes sir

DEMOLA: My counsel for you both is that you must keep holding on to God, don’t give room
for alternatives; let your eyes be on God alone. Just keep trusting God, it will end in praise.

DANIEL/RACHAEL: Amen!

DEMOLA: Abraham gave room for alternative, he slept with his maid, he had a son but he was
not the promise; this alternative further delayed the promise and this alternative has ever since
been a problem to the world. In some cases, alternatives can deny or affect the promise from
coming to pass. Alternatives are never the best as they are born through impatience. Anything
gotten through impatience doesn’t last and they are most times counterfeit. So, I encourage you
to please wait on the Lord. Psalm 27:14 says ‘wait on the LORD: be of good courage, and he
shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say on the LORD.

DANIEL: (Nods in agreement) Hmm! I’m encouraged, my soul is lifted.

DEMOLA: Although, you are yet to have children of your own, the Lord is blessing your
ministry with children; the barren are coming and returning fruitful, that’s the promise of God
becoming a reality in your ministry; it’s an assurance that yours too will come in Jesus name.

DANIEL/RACHAEL: Amen!!!

RACHAEL: Thank you Daddy, we are grateful.

DEMOLA: Thanks to God, God bless you.

DANIEL/RACHAEL: Amen!

(Pastor Demola prays for them.)

44
THE WAITING ROOM

SCENE 19

(It’s Sunday service at Pastor Daniel’s church. Five families come out to dedicate their babies
unto the Lord. Pastor Daniel and wife receive the babies with joy and pray for them.

After the service, some members gather to gossip Pastor Daniel, wondering why God blesses his
ministry with children; no barren woman he prays for that does not return fruitful: yet, his wife
is barren, what an irony!

Some of the ministers of the church have a closed door meeting with Pastor Daniel in his
office…)

FEMI: Pastor, we decided to have this meeting with you because we have something bothering
our minds for a while now and we need to clarify here and now. We are sorry if what I’m about
to say may not sound well to you but it is necessary we talked about it, seeing the rumors going
around.

DANIEL: (Curious) What is it, Deacon Femi?

FEMI: Hmm! Well, Pastor; we are really bothered and concerned about your childlessness. You
pray for others and they bear children. We have dedication of babies almost every Sundays; just
today alone, we dedicated five babies; I mean five babies but you, the channel of blessing don’t
have a child of your own, we are concerned.

DANIEL: (Smiles) You see, I appreciate your concern my dear ministers, thank you very much.
This is a proof to us that it’s God that answers prayers and not man; its God that gives children
and not man. God is in heaven and He does whatever pleases Him and no man can question Him.
This is a phase of life that God wants me and my wife to pass through, so that He will take the
glory alone. All I desire from you my dear ministers is your prayers, please be praying for us.

BAMIDELE: (Cuts in) Pastor! Open up to us; tell us what we need to know. We ensured we are
the only one here to see you, so that no other person hear our conversation. Pastor, we promise to
keep this a secret, just tell us the truth.

DANIEL: (Confused) What truth, ministers of God? What are you talking about?

EZE: Pastor, you know what we are talking about, just confess to us. Is it that the requirement of
your charm demands that you should be childless, as others you pray for have children or is it
you or your wife that have problem?

DANIEL: (shocked, exclaims) Jesus Christ! Ministers of God! Me! Charm! I can’t believe this is
coming from you.

FEMI: Well, Pastor Daniel, we know you will not want to confess but we know that one day
whatever is in darkness will come to light.

45
THE WAITING ROOM

DANIEL: Ministers of God, who is feeding you with these lies? We have been together in this
church for years now; I have never hidden anything from you.

EZE: The truth will unveil itself soon, Pastor Daniel.

(They all stand to leave at once. Rachael comes in immediately; and sees her husband in a sad
mood, although she overheard all their discussion.)

RACHAEL: James 1: 2-3; ‘my husband, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations;
knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience. Philippians 4:4 says ‘Rejoice in the
Lord always and again I say, Rejoice. Psalm 30:5b says weeping may endure for a night but joy
cometh in the morning’.

DANIEL: (Smiles) Wow! Thank you sweet heart; those words entered into the depths of my
soul and lifted up my spirit. The word of God is indeed comforting.

RACHAEL: I overheard all the discussions, and these were the words the Holy Spirit laid in my
heart.

DANIEL: Thank you Jesus.

(Later in the evening at Pastor Daniel’s residence; His mother arrives unannounced…)

DANIEL: (Surprised) Mama, good evening ma; you did not tell me you were coming.

MAMA: Yes, I decided not to because I have come to see you for something very important.

DANIEL: (Grinning) That’s the more reason you should inform me before coming, what if I
wasn’t around?

MAMA: Well, thank God, you are around.

(Rachael comes into the living room and is surprised to see mama…)

RACHAEL: (Kneeling down) Ah! Mama, you are around, good evening ma.

MAMA: (Hisses in response.)

DANIEL: (Amazed) Mama, my wife just greeted you and you hissed.

MAMA: And so what? It is you I have come to see.

RACHAEL: Mama, what is my offence? Whatever I have done, please forgive me.

MAMA: You did not offend me o, it’s only my son I have come to see, please excuse us.

46
THE WAITING ROOM

DANIEL: (Becoming disturbed) Mama, what do you mean, you have only come to see your
son?

RACHAEL: Dear, it’s okay let me go back inside.

(Rachael leaves, but she stays close enough to listen to their conversation…)

DANIEL: (Upset) Mama, I don’t like this sudden attitude towards my wife.

MAMA: Who is your wife? A woman that cannot give you children; ten years of marriage, no
single child.

DANIEL: Mama! Now I understand you. I have told you many times mama that it’s God that
gives children.

MAMA: (Interjects) My son, it is you I pity o!

DANIEL: (Curious) What do you mean, mama?

MAMA: I have been bothered about this your childlessness; so I decided to go and find out from
the elders what the problem is. Daniel, your wife is a witch.

DANIEL: (Mystified) Jesus Christ! Mama! What did you just say?

MAMA: You married a witch

DANIEL: Mama, let this be the first and last time, you will say such about my wife.

MAMA: I repeat your wife is a witch; o ya beat me.

(Pastor Daniel walks away angry, only to meet his wife in deep tears…)

DANIEL: (Encourages her with the same scripture) James 1:2-3; ‘my wife, count it all joy when
ye fall into divers temptations, knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience.
Philippians 4:4 – rejoice in the Lord always: and again I say, rejoice. Psalm 30:5b – weeping
may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning.

RACHAEL: (Teary, smiles) Thank you dear.

DANIEL: All will be well

RACHAEL: Amen!

(They join hands together and pray…)

47
THE WAITING ROOM

SCENE 20

(In an herbalist shrine; Pastor Daniel’s mother arrives with a young lady – Nike.)

MAMA: Greetings, wise one.

HERBALIST: Greetings, the gods greets you.

MAMA: Wise one, when I informed my son that the woman he married is a witch, he became
very angry and almost chased me out of his house. Well, I’m not surprised; I know she must
have trapped him with her witchcraft. Wise one, please help me deliver my son from her and
make my son take this beautiful lady as his new wife and bear him children.

HERBALIST: Consider it done.

MAMA: (Smiles) Thank you wise one, I trust you.

(The herbalist makes some incantations, takes a charm powder and gives to mama…)

HERBALIST: Woman, that’s a charm powder. Go to your son’s house with this young lady,
when you get there, rub the powder on her face. Immediately, your son sets his eyes on her after
she has rubbed the powder, he will fall in love with her and hate his wife bitterly.

MAMA: (Excited) Thank you wise one.

HERBALIST: Make sure this charm is not seen by any other person or else you will face the
consequences and it is incurable (he warns.)

MAMA: You can trust me, wise one; I will be very careful.

(She leaves the shrine with Nike, both heading for her son’s house to accomplish her mission.
Upon arrival, only Pastor Daniel is at home.)

DANIEL: Mama, you are here again; I hope we are safe this time.

MAMA: What do you mean? Is that the way to greet your mother?

DANIEL: (Laughs) I’m just kidding, good afternoon mama.

MAMA: Good afternoon my son; what about your wife?

DANIEL: She has gone to work.

MAMA: Okay. I actually came to apologize for the way I reacted to your wife and what I
accused her of the last time. I’m very sorry my son; it’s due to the pain in the heart of a
grandmother seeking for her grandchild. Please forgive me.

48
THE WAITING ROOM

DANIEL: (Smiles) Alright mama, we understand. We have already forgiven you.

MAMA: (Smiles) Oh! Thank you and your wife too?

DANIEL: Yes; we even prayed for you.

MAMA: Ah! Thank you very much o, God bless you.

DANIEL: Amen. (Noticing the stranger, he queries) And who is this young lady?

MAMA: (Feign smiles) She’s one of my neighbour’s daughter – Adenike a very good,
respectful and caring young lady. She’s like a daughter to me; she helps me with almost
everything in the house. When I was coming here, she insisted she must come with me.

DANIEL: Eeya! How are you my dear sister?

NIKE: (Kneeling down) I’m fine sir.

DANIEL: (Smiles) Come on, get up.

MAMA: (Smiles) I told you she’s very respectful and she’s well-trained.

DANIEL: That’s very good. Mama, let me get both of you something from the kitchen.

MAMA: You want to go and cook when Adenike is here; she’s very good in cooking.

DANIEL: (Jokingly) Mama! My wife cooked some food already before she went to work, let me
just warm it.

MAMA: Hmm, okay o, we are waiting.

(Pastor Daniel goes to the kitchen immediately. This is an opportunity for mama to accomplish
her mission; she quickly opens her bag to take the charm powder and surprisingly she couldn’t
find it. She searches thoroughly only to realize her bag has a hole. The charm had fallen on the
way and many eyes have seen it. Few minutes later, mama begins to display madness; Nike
shouts for help… Pastor Daniel hears her voice and rushes to meet them. Mama displays more
insanity and begins to confess all her evil intentions.)

DANIEL: (Confused) Young lady, are these things mama is saying true?

NIKE: (Weeping) Y-e-sss sir, it is true.

DANIEL: (Shocked, screams) Jesus Christ! Mama!! But why Mama? So you have not changed?
Oh my God! What do I do now?

49
THE WAITING ROOM

(Pastor Daniel paces around…, thinks of what to do; then he decides to pray. He prays for
mercy on behalf of mama and casts out the spirit of madness from her; immediately the spirit
vanishes and she becomes normal, Nike is frightened and runs away.

Pastor Daniel warns his mother seriously not to interfere in his marriage again; she apologizes
and promises never to try such again. Pastor Daniel leads her to Christ; she surrenders herself
and is born again).

50
THE WAITING ROOM

SCENE 21

(A month later … At the Regional Pastor’s office … Pastor Daniel is with the Regional Pastor
(Pastor Demola). He gives Pastor Daniel a letter sent to him from the mission office of the
Headquarter. It is a transfer letter to a village in Osun state.)

DANIEL: Je-sus!!! No, this can’t be true, Daddy.

DEMOLA: It is true Pastor Daniel. I got the letter from the Missions Department myself last
week, but I decided to hold on to it, till I get confirmation myself about this transfer from the
Lord. I’ve prayed about it and I can tell you with utmost confidence that God has a hand in this.

DANIEL: This is not what God promised me when He called me into ministry. He never
mentioned to me that my ministry requires going to a village. How can His promises be a reality
by going to sit in one village that’s probably struggling to develop?

DEMOLA: Come on Pastor Daniel! You know God’s word never fails, His ways are different
from our ways and His thoughts from our thoughts. When He promises us anything, all we need
to do is to believe and follow Him as He leads us; it’s not our duty to know how He will fulfill
His promise.

DANIEL: Okay Daddy. But is this not demotion? I as a District Pastor will go and become a
parish pastor in a village?

DEMOLA: Hmm… this is the more reason I had to pray about this before calling you. Like I
told you earlier, God confirmed to me that He has a hand in this. So, Pastor Daniel, I will also
encourage you to go and pray about it to get confirmation from the Lord yourself. Please let go
of pride and submit yourself under the mighty hand of God, so He can lift you up. In Philippians
2:5-9; our Lord Jesus Christ was demoted for him to be elevated.

DANIEL: Hmm…Thank you Daddy for the words of encouragement; the Lord will help me.
Please give me a few days, I will seek the face of the Lord and get back to you sir.

DEMOLA: Okay, its fine. I will be waiting.

Pastor Daniel leaves the office …still in the premises; one of his ministers (Deacon Eze) walks
in; they greet each other as Pastor Daniel breaks the news to him, he exclaims…

EZE: What! This is demotion for God’s sake. But why is the mission so cruel to full time
pastors? Why? They pay you meagre salary, they are not bothered about your welfare, they
collect almost 100% offering and tithes, when we seek for help, they will be giving us flimsy
excuses, honestly, I am not happy. But Pastor Daniel, what do you intend doing now?

DANIEL: Well, I don’t really know for now but I will pray about it and trust God to guide me
on what to do.

51
THE WAITING ROOM

EZE: Hmm! It’s very important you pray about it but I will also advise you to be very wise;
politics is really been played in church today, some of our so-called zonal and regional pastors
buy positions and transfers with money; I know many of them that worked their transfer to
places that suits them and exchange struggling churches for pastors that are connected.

DANIEL: (Exclaims) Haaa! Deacon Eze!! We must be careful with what we say with our
mouth; God is the owner of His church, let’s leave Him to judge.

EZE: Yes I know, I’m just telling you the fact. If I were you sir, I will not even bother myself; I
will resign immediately and start my ministry.

DANIEL: Okay Deacon Eze, thank you very much, I will think about it, let me take my leave
now.

EZE: Think about it well o Pastor.

(Pastor Daniel leaves Deacon Eze immediately without giving him any further response … As
soon as Pastor Daniel reaches home, his phone rings as he is entering into his house; it is
Deacon Femi calling…)

FEMI: Congratulations Pastor Daniel (laughs.)

DANIEL: (Bemused) For what sir?

FEMI: Your transfer of course.

DANIEL: (Still confused) What do you mean Deacon Femi? This is not a transfer to be excited
about; I’m transferred to a village in Osun state and a demotion from an Area Pastor back to a
parish pastor. This is not a good one Deacon Femi.

FEMI: (Guffaws) Eeya… sorry Pastor Daniel. Unfortunately, as for me it’s good news.

DANIEL: (Bewildered) Good news for you? Deacon Femi, I still don’t get you.

FEMI: Okay, I will explain. We have been praying that if truly you are a genuine man of God,
then God should prove it by allowing you to remain our pastor but if otherwise, then He should
prove it by sending you far away from the region. This is an answer to prayers. God has
confirmed to us that you are fake. I have not heard it anywhere, where a pastor will be praying
for the barren and they will have their children but the pastor himself is barren.

DANIEL: (Mind boggling) Deacon Femi!!! This is unbelievable.

52
THE WAITING ROOM

SCENE 22

(Pastor Daniel is awake in the middle of the night because he cannot sleep. He is still pondering
over what Deacon Femi told him; he concludes within himself, saying …)

DANIEL: Hmm! Deacon Femi could actually confront me with those words, someone I
expected will be a source of encouragement for me at this time; a minister of God utter those
words from his mouth, this is unbelievable. If he could say this, what makes me think this
transfer is not influenced. Yet, Pastor Demola says he has prayed about it and he confirmed that
God has a hand in it. This is not what God promised me when he called me into ministry. It is
promise of greatness and not backwardness, not demotion, Hmm!! I’ve been faithful in my
service to God, is this how God will reward me? He gave me no child, now He wants to double
my shame by demoting me and sending me to a village! This can never be from God, this is the
handiwork of men; I will not accept this; no! I will not accept it.

(Pastor Daniel wakes up his wife and tells her his mind…)

RACHAEL: Hmm…Dear, have you taken it to the Lord in prayer? Is this what God is saying
you should do?

DANIEL: (Grumbling) I feel this can’t be from God because …

RACHAEL: (Interjects) Dear!!! It’s not about your feeling; it’s about what God is saying. I
advise we pray about this very well and get confirmation from the Lord about this, so that we
don’t make a mistake that we will regret for the rest of our lives. You know Pastor Demola is a
spiritual father to us and you know how God has used him tremendously for our ministry and he
has never for once led us astray, so if he says he has prayed and he’s so sure that God has a hand
in it, I believe he knows what he’s saying. Please don’t let what Deacon Femi told you to get you
off track of fulfilling God’s purpose for your life. You will realize I had peace in me when you
told me about this transfer even with what you said about Deacon Femi; normally, I should have
been bothered but somehow I just realized I have peace within me. So dear, let’s take time to
pray about this and let’s trust God to guide us.

DANIEL: (Nods in agreement) Hmm… okay. Can we pray now?

RACHAEL: Sure

(They pray together all through the night…)

53
THE WAITING ROOM

SCENE 23

(At Deacon Femi’s residence …Deacon Eze, Brother Bamidele and Deacon Femi himself come
together to celebrate the transfer of Pastor Daniel their “enemy”. They lift up cups with wine
and cheer to celebrate.)

EZE: So Deacon Femi, tell us, how did you do it?

FEMI: (Laughs) You know one of the pastors in charge of transfer in the mission Department is
my very good friend, I complained to him about Pastor Daniel; how he has been a hindrance to
me in becoming ordained as a pastor. You know he always refuse to submit my name at the
headquarters for ordination; he will be telling me that God has not spoken to him to go ahead and
meanwhile he met me in that church. He’s feeling he’s the only one that is called by God.

EZE: (Interrupts) How are we so sure that it’s God that is using him? How can you pray for
other barren women, they will come back with testimony and meanwhile the one praying for
them has no single child of his own? We are not serving a wicked God.

BAMIDELE: Abi ooo

FEMI: You can say that again. So, I was saying, this pastor friend of mine promised to help me
to influence pastor Daniel’s transfer out of the region so I can have my way. God is so good, they
did not only transfer him out of the region, they sent him to a village.

(They all laugh…)

BAMIDELE: (Curious) Do you mean they can make a transfer without the knowledge of the
General Overseer?

FEMI: Yes of course. The G.O has a lot of things to attend to; what do you expect from a church
that is in many nations? So the G.O has no choice than to delegate a lot of things.

EZE: Hmm… Pastor Femo!!

FEMI: (Smiles) That’s me, you can say that again. Whatever I want done must be done.

EZE: Yes sir. Our upcoming pastor.

(They all burst laughter…)

54
THE WAITING ROOM

SCENE 24

(At Pastor Daniel’s residence; Pastor Demola (the regional Pastor) visits. Pastor Daniel and
wife feel so honoured and excited to receive him...)

DEMOLA: Pastor Daniel, I was so delighted when you called to inform me that you have
accepted the transfer. It gladdened my heart so much and I decided to come all the way just to
encourage you.

DANIEL: Wow… thank you Daddy (smiles.)

DEMOLA: I’m happy that you didn’t allow what Deacon Femi said to you to sweep you off.
God has a glorious plan for your life and ministry; you must be careful of the devices of the devil
to distract you. You will receive discouragement and disappointment from people you do not
expect at all and this is one of it.

DANIEL/RACHAEL: (Nod in agreement) Hmm!

DEMOLA: Open your bible and read Ephesians 6:10-19

DANIEL: (Open and reads)

DEMOLA: You are going into the battlefield to lay hold on the promises of God for your life
and ministry; all you need is the whole armor of God to fight and conquer the hindrances to your
promised land. So I want you to be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. Isaiah
40:31 says “But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with
wings as eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint”. You are
currently in your WAITING ROOM; this is your waiting period to receive God’s promise. As
you wait, you have to continually renew your strength with God’s word, mount up your wings as
eagles, keep running and never be weary, keep walking and never faint.

Finally, I will encourage you with the life of Joseph. Joseph had a glorious destiny which was
revealed to him when he was very young. He waited for 30 years for the manifestation; in the
period of waiting, he went through the PIT OF LIFE and PRISON OF LIFE before he eventually
got to the PALACE OF LIFE which is the PROMISE OF GOD for his life.

DANIEL: Hmm! Thank you so much daddy for these words of encouragement needed at this
time, the Lord will help us

DEMOLA/RACHAEL: Amen!!!

DEMOLA: Sister Rachael, are you ready to support your husband all the way?

RACHAEL: Yes sir by God’s grace, we are in it together; it’s our ministry. The lord will help
us.

55
THE WAITING ROOM

DEMOLA: Amen! I will like to request we have seven days prayer and fasting together, after
then, we make arrangement for Pastor Daniel to go to the village to spend few days there in order
to get familiar with the environment and get the place ready for your permanent stay.

DANIEL: It’s okay sir.

(Pastor Demola prays with them and leaves. Pastor Daniel and wife see Pastor Demola off, and
they are back inside. Pastor Daniel sits and begins to ponder on the transfer…)

RACHAEL: Dear, what are you thinking?

DANIEL: Your job, you will definitely have to leave your job. What are you going to be doing
in a strange land that we don’t even know anyone there?

RACHAEL: Dear, where is your faith? Will God leave His own to suffer? He that called us is
faithful to take care of our needs. This is the time for our faith to come alive, this is the time to
let God know that we trust Him; seek first the kingdom of God and its righteousness and every
other thing shall be added unto you; that’s what the scriptures says or don’t you believe the word
of God anymore?

DANIEL: Yes I do, thank you dear for challenging me always, the Lord will help my faith.

RACHAEL: Amen!!! First thing on Monday morning, I will drop my resignation letter.

DANIEL: (Amazed) Why so soon?

RACHAEL: We have a month to move to our new place of assignment, so I also need to give a
month notice or else I will be paying the company a month salary.

DANIEL: Ooh, you are right dear, I never thought of that.

RACHAEL: I strongly believe in my heart that we won’t regret this, as long as God lives; this
will become a great testimony for us.

DANIEL: Amen! I will change your name to Deborah, the brave woman.

(They both giggle…)

56
THE WAITING ROOM

SCENE 25

Pastor Daniel leaves for Iragbiji village (Osun state) for familiarization visit. He has gotten all
the details he needed. He arrives Iragbiji at evening time to the residence of the current pastor
(Pastor Moses) of the parish he is to take over. Pastor Moses welcomes and receives him.

Further into the evening, after he had rested a while; he and Pastor Moses talk about the
village…

DANIEL: So Pastor Moses, how has ministry been in this village?

MOSES: (Sober) Hmm! I just hope my answer to this question you asked will not discourage
you.

DANIEL: (Amazed) Discourage? Why?

MOSES: No church thrives here. I have been in this village for four years now, I can’t count the
number of churches that have died; a lot of pastors have run away because they can’t cope. This
village is demonic, the inhabitants are idol worshippers, just very few are Christians and even the
few are very lukewarm. I have just three families that worship in my parish and even the three
families are not consistent, I go to their houses most times to call them for service. But there is a
particular brother – brother kunle, very zealous and vibrant for the things of God, he’s the one
that God has used to keep me here, if not, I might have probably left long time ago, he has been
very supportive, you will meet him tomorrow. When I broke the news of my transfer back to
Lagos, he was very sad because he is scared that the church will die completely, but I had to
encourage him that the church will not die, someone else will take over and let’s believe that
God will use him to do what I could not do.

To encourage you Pastor Daniel; myself and Brother kunle have been on fasting and prayer for
you that God will use you for the restoration and deliverance of this land. This was the idea of
brother kunle.

DANIEL: Hmm… what a wonderful brother!

MOSES: Yes he is. God used him as a source of encouragement for me; I never expected such
from anyone in this village. He told me that nobody preached Christ to him; he had a personal
encounter with God and God led him to serve in our church; his greatest desire is that this land
will be delivered and be saved.

DANIEL: Amen! Thank you so much Pastor Moses. I can’t imagine what you must have gone
through, it must have really been challenging; thank you for opening up to me, at least it has
given me an insight into what I am coming here to meet. Even in the midst of the
discouragement, God has enabled me to find encouragement in the fact that despite a lot of
churches that have died in this land, our denomination – THE SAVING GRACE BIBLE

57
THE WAITING ROOM

CHURCH is still alive and God planted a man to be a source of encouragement for you; is an
indication that God has a plan for this church.

MOSES: (Nods in agreement) Hmm! Yes sir.

DANIEL: So Pastor Moses, what about your wife and children?

MOSES: They are in Lagos; my wife never for once supported me coming here, but since I
insisted, I had to come alone; though, she was concerned about our welfare and the children’s
education. But she had come visiting twice with the children; the period she was on her annual
leave at work. What about you? Are you coming alone?

DANIEL: No, my wife is coming with me, we have no children yet. I was actually bothered
about her job and welfare but she boosted up my faith by confronting me with God’s word. She
has even gone ahead to resign.

MOSES: Hmm… what a wonderful wife you’ve got Pastor Daniel, and you should be grateful
to God for this. It is rare to see women that will do such, they are few. I want you to understand
that family is a ministry on its own and a man’s ministerial assignment is a ministry on its own
too. No one must affect the other; the two must balance to achieve a common goal. I am here
now because I have to obey the call of God but I left the family ministry; I cannot neglect the
ministerial assignment for the family ministry, the two ought to work hand in hand.

DANIEL: (Nods in agreement) Hmm! The two must work hand in hand.

MOSES: Yes sir and remember the scripture says, one shall chase a thousand, two shall chase
ten thousand. The scripture also says if two of you shall agree on anything, it will definitely
come to pass. With the support of your wife, you will achieve so much exploits; a lot of things I
would have loved to do but I could not because my wife is not here. So pastor Daniel, thank God
for your wife; celebrate her. And I pray for you that on this land, she will become pregnant and
bear her own children.

DANIEL: Amen! Thanks a lot Pastor Moses; my meeting with you is such a blessing.

MOSES: To God be the glory

(They both pray and go to sleep afterwards…)

58
THE WAITING ROOM

SCENE 26

(At the MD’s (Mr. Olumide) office … Rachael is with the MD in his office...)

MD: Rachael, how much is the pay?

RACHAEL: (Confused) What pay sir? I don’t get sir.

MD: I received your resignation letter; I believe you’ve gotten a better offer right?

RACHAEL: (Smiles) Oh! Now I get.

MD: (Anxious) So tell me, how much is it? I’m ready to give you much more.

RACHAEL: (Grins) It’s not what you think sir; I’ve not gotten any other job, I’m actually
moving out of Lagos, my husband has been transferred to Osun state.

MD: Really! Where in Osun precisely?

RACHAEL: Iragbiji

MD: (Exclaims) Ira what! Where is that? I was expecting probably Oshogbo, Ede or Ife; those
are the places that are still open in Osun state, where you can still probably get a reasonable job
to do. This iragbiji you mention will surely be a village; Rachael, have you given this a thought?

RACHAEL: Yes sir, I’m sure about this sir.

MD: Okay. Well, I know you as a woman of strong faith, a strong believer of God (smiles). I
pray the Lord will go with you and your husband and meet all your needs.

RACHAEL: Amen! Thank you sir.

MD: But I must confess, I can’t afford to lose you, I will really miss you.

RACHAEL: I’m sorry sir; I have no choice than to go.

MD: I understand you perfectly, I can’t stop you from obeying God; God is supreme over all, I
was only expressing my feelings, it is well.

RACHAEL: Thank you sir.

MD: I will ensure you have a befitting send forth because you deserve it.

RACHAEL: (Excited) Really! Thank you sir, I will be looking forward to it sir.

(Rachael excuses herself and takes her leave…)

59
THE WAITING ROOM

SCENE 27

(At Pastor Daniel’s residence … Pastor Daniel is back home from his familiarization visit to
Iragbiji village.

After taking his shower and resting for a while; he and his wife have their dinner. While at
dinner, they discuss the experience of his short visit. Afterwards, Rachael gives him a letter given
to her by her MD. He receives it and reads…)

DANIEL: Dear Rachael Adebayo; I must sincerely confess to you that when I received the news
of your resignation, it really saddened my heart because you are one of the staff I cherish so
much and will never want to lose for anything, because of the value you have added to this
organization and to me especially. God used you and your husband for me to receive salvation
which has totally changed my life. Unfortunately for me, the purpose of your resignation is
beyond me, if not, I am ready to do anything to retain you but God knows the best. I have
therefore made up my mind that as the MD of this organization, you will be receiving your
monthly salary, not from the company’s account but from my personal account, even though you
no longer work here; that’s my contribution and support for the ministry work. I have already
given my bank a standing order. Please feel free to always call me if you need my help on
anything, I will be glad to help.

Yours faithfully,
Olumide Olatunde
Managing Director, Apex Partners.

(Exclaims) Je-sus! This is unbelievable!!

RACHAEL: Honey, this is the same way I screamed when I received the letter; he even
promised to give me a befitting send forth and ensure I get all the benefits entitled to me before I
leave.

DANIEL: (Excited) Really? This can only be God my dear.

RACHAEL: Can you now see that God is faithful? He said in His word that we should seek first
His kingdom and all other things shall be added unto us.

DANIEL: Hmm… Matthew 6:34. Take no thought for tomorrow, for tomorrow shall take
thought for the things of itself. The word of God is ever sure.

RACHAEL: Yes honey. He’s ever faithful to His word.

DANIEL: God, you are great. This is a lesson for me to learn to trust God. I was scared of how
we will take care of ourselves in a village that we have never been before and have no relations

60
THE WAITING ROOM

but with your step of faith of resigning at work, God proved himself; thank you Jesus. I want us
to spend the night to appreciate God for this.

RACHAEL: (Nods in agreement) Alright dear.

(They hear a knock at the door; it is Mr. & Mrs. Joseph - church members at the door. Rachael
opens the door and receives both of them. They exchange greetings and state the purpose of their
visit)

MR JOSEPH: My wife and I decided to pray for you sir since you announced your transfer.
Sincerely, we were not happy at first because we cannot afford to lose you now but we have no
choice. We took some time to pray for your ministry, marriage and particularly fruitfulness of
the womb for our mummy. The Lord spoke to us that we should tell you that the land He’s
sending you to is a Land of Fruitfulness and Fulfillment of Divine promises i.e. THE PROMISE
LAND.

DANIEL/RACHAEL: Amen!!!

MR JOSEPH: We were delighted when the Lord specifically told us that we should buy you
some baby items as gift (hands over the baby items to Rachael.)

RACHAEL: (Amazed) Wow!!! Thank you.

DANIEL: (Flabbergasted) You mean the lord told you to do this?

MR JOSEPH: Yes sir.

DANIEL: Hmm! Thank you Jesus! Thank you so much Mr. and Mrs. Joseph; the Lord will
remember you too and honour you.

MR/MRS JOSEPH: Amen!

(Tears start to drop from Rachael’s eyes…)

MRS. JOSEPH: (Curious) Mummy, why are you crying?

RACHAEL: Its tears of joy. God has sent you both to encourage us and to let us know that He
has not forgotten us for all these years of waiting.

MR JOSEPH: (Smiles) Hallelujah! God be praised. We will rejoice with you both very soon in
Jesus name.

DANIEL/RACHAEL: Amen!

MR JOSEPH: And one more thing the Lord told us to do; He said we should pray this prayer
for you; which is, that you will receive strength to fight through to receive the promise.

61
THE WAITING ROOM

DANIEL/RACHAEL: Amen!!!

MR JOSEPH: Can we pray sir?

DANIEL: Yes of course.

(Pastor Daniel and Rachael kneel immediately and they are prayed for. Then Mr. and Mrs.
Joseph take their leave.)

(In the middle of the night; Pastor Daniel has a nightmare. A terrible looking and fearful demon
appears to him in his room, gives a warning…)

DEMON: (In a loud voice) Pastor Daniel! I am the terrestrial demon in charge of Iragbiji
village, we heard about your short visit and we are aware you are coming back fully soon. I came
to warn you ahead; don’t bother coming back or else you will have yourself to blame.

DANIEL: (Responds) You lie! The one who sent me is greater than your master the devil,
therefore you cannot stop me.

DEMON: (Brags) I did not come to trade words with you, I only came to warn you and if you
refuse, be ready to face the consequences (disappears.)

(Immediately, Pastor Daniel awakes from the dream. Rachael is awake praying; she stops
praying as she observed her husband sudden awake…)

RACHAEL: Honey, you are awake? What’s the matter?

DANIEL: I had a dream… (Shares the dream with her)

RACHAEL: Hmm! The devil is a liar, he’s only a roaring lion but he has failed. Maybe that’s
why the spirit of God has been impressing Psalm 24:7-10 in my heart (she reads) which means
we must pray against the gates and the everlasting doors of Iragbiji village that have refused to
allow the king of glory to come in; we must pray that they be lifted.

DANIEL: (Nods in agreement) You are very right dear; whether the devil likes it or not, the
light of God must shine upon every works of darkness in Iragbiji village.

(They hold hands together, praying for Iragbiji village with Psalm 24:7-10. As they are praying,
Pastor Demola (the regional pastor) is also praying with the scripture and equally Pastor Moses
and Bro Kunle at their various places, unknown to each other, as they were led by the spirit of
God.

While praying, Pastor Daniel goes into a trance. He sees himself in front of a very big gate; as
he tries to open the gate so he could enter, a horrible looking demon appears and pushes him
away…)

62
THE WAITING ROOM

DEMON: Young man! Who are you and why are you here?

DANIEL: I’m a servant of the most high; I have come to deliver the people of this land from
their captivity.

DEMON: (Laughs confrontationally) Go back to the one who sent you and tell him that the one
in charge of this land has shut the gate and you have no access.

DANIEL: (Shouts aloud) Lift up your heads, o ye gates and be ye lifted up, ye everlasting doors,
and the king of glory shall come in.

DEMON: (Questions) Who is this king of glory?

DANIEL: The LORD strong and mighty, the LORD mighty in battle. Lift up your heads, o ye
gates; even lift them up ye everlasting doors, and the king of glory shall come in.

DEMON: (Questions) Who is this king of glory?

DANIEL: The LORD of hosts, he is the king of glory.

(Immediately, the Lord appears in His glory, the demon bows and the gate opens on its own
accord as the Lord and Pastor Daniel enters.

Pastor Daniel returns to his real self and shares the revelation with his wife; they both praise
God for answered prayers.)

63
THE WAITING ROOM

SCENE 28

Pastor Daniel and his wife finally move to Iragbiji village. Kunle, aware of their coming awaits
their arrival as Pastor Moses already left.

Upon arrival, Kunle welcomes them and help in carrying their luggage into the house. He helps
to provide all that they need. Pastor Daniel and his wife appreciate Kunle so much for his
support…

The first Sunday service; Pastor Daniel, wife and Kunle are in church as early as 7am in
preparation for service. They take some time to pray even as they expect the usual faces, during
prayers, five new people come in for service.

At the end of service, a total of twenty seven people in attendance and eleven people gave their
lives to Christ. It was a big surprise especially to Kunle because the number of people that come
to the church has never exceeded five for the past four years that he has been worshipping in the
church. When Pastor Daniel interrogated some of them, he realized that many of them are
willing to go to church but a spiritual force hold them bound.

After everyone had left except kunle, Pastor Daniel and wife; Kunle expresses his feelings to
Pastor Daniel…

KUNLE: Pastor, if I tell you that what happened today is not a surprise to me, then I am lying.
We had a total number of twenty seven people that came to church today; we had to bring out
our abandoned chairs to accommodate them. For the past four years I have been in this church,
we have never had more than five people; but you just had one service… just one service!
Twenty seven people came without been forced, without inviting them; they just came on their
own. People that I never imagined can step their feet in the church, not only came but even gave
their lives to Christ; this is amazing. I can’t count the number of times, myself and Pastor Moses
prayed, fasted and evangelized but all in vain.

DANIEL: (Interjects) Point of correction Brother Kunle, the prayers and fasting were not in
vain; they were seeds you sowed awaiting the day of harvest. When a farmer plants a seed, he
waits for it’s time to grow and yield harvest. The scripture says, Paul planted, Apollos watered
but God gave the increase. Everyone has different assignments, some are called to plant, while
some are called to water the seed planted, but only God gives the increase.

The time of deliverance of Iragbiji village has come and God has sent me to accomplish it. The
gate of this village that has been denying the king of glory to come in has been lifted and the
everlasting doors have been opened; so the king of glory is now in charge. Hallelujah !!!

KUNLE: (Nods in agreement) Hmm! This is an answer to prayer; truly God answers prayer.

64
THE WAITING ROOM

DANIEL: Yes he does. Whatever you ask of him in faith, He will surely give it unto you in His
own time; all we need is to wait patiently in faith according to Psalm 27:14 which says “Wait on
the LORD: be of good courage and he shall strengthen thine heart: wait I say on the LORD.

KUNLE: (Nods in agreement) Hmm! Now I understand; thank you pastor. I’m waiting patiently
to see when this whole village will acknowledge Jesus as their Lord and savior.

DANIEL: Amen. The lord will do it because it’s the will of God that every man should be
saved.

KUNLE: Yes sir.

DANIEL: Brother Kunle, I will need your assistance tomorrow morning; I want to visit all the
new converts to counsel them the more and pray for them. I will need you to locate the addresses
easily.

KUNLE: No problem pastor; I’m available for you anytime sir.

DANIEL: Thank you so much brother Kunle. God bless you.

KUNLE: Amen

(They both depart…)

65
THE WAITING ROOM

SCENE 29

(At the Regional Headquarter … the region is holding her Annual Regional Minister’s
conference with the Theme: VESSELS UNTO HONOUR AND DISHONOUR – 2 Tim 2:19-12

Immediately after the praise & worship session, Pastor Demola, the Regional Pastor comes up
to welcome all the ministers officially to the conference, introduces the theme of the conference
and the Guest speaker – Pastor Evans Duke.)

After the introduction, Pastor Evans comes up and commences his ministration…

EVANS: I will describe these two words – vessels unto honour and vessels unto dishonour based
on the revelation I received from the Lord when I was preparing for this conference.

Both vessels are instruments for the fulfillment of God’s purpose; they are equally used to bring
to pass the plan/will of God but the medium is different. Vessels unto honour are used by God
while vessels unto dishonour are used by the devil but for the same purpose.

Judas Iscariot was used by the devil to crucify Jesus in order to fulfill the purpose of Christ on
earth. 1 Corinthians 2:8 says – ‘which none of the princes of the world knew: for had they known
it, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory’. Luke 22:3-4 says ‘Then entered Satan into
Judas surnamed Iscariot, being one of number of the twelve. And he went his way, and
communed with the chief priests and captains, how he might betray him unto them’. Judas
through the devil became a vessel unto dishonour.

Another example were the brothers of Joseph, they were instruments used by the devil to
accomplish God’s purpose in the life of Joseph. As much the devil tries to frustrate the
plans/purpose of God, the more it comes to fulfillment.

The Devil himself is a vessel unto dishonour right from when he was chased out of heaven; he
can never stop God from fulfilling His purpose but he rather helps God fulfill it. 1 Corinthians
2:7 says ‘but we speak the wisdom of God in a mystery, even the hidden wisdom which God
ordained before the world unto our glory.’ The devil does not understand this, and he can never
understand.

Joseph’s brothers became vessels unto dishonor due to envy and hatred which are the characters
of the devil. Anyone who desires to frustrate the purpose of God in a man’s life automatically
becomes a vessel unto dishonour.

As I was preparing this message; God said I should warn you ministers to be careful of envy,
hatred and pride, so that you don’t become vessels unto dishonour. The end result of vessels unto
dishonour is shame and destruction. Joseph’s brother sold him into slavery in order for him not
to fulfill his destiny, they ended up in shame, they eventually bowed for their younger brother
Joseph; Judas ended up committing suicide.

66
THE WAITING ROOM

In conclusion, how do you then become a vessel unto Honour; according to 2 Timothy 2:21 –
purge yourself from all forms of the works of flesh and iniquity – hatred, envy, pride, etc. verse
19 says ‘let everyone that nameth the name of Christ depart from iniquity; God knows His own.

(Pastor Evans concludes his ministration; they pray together and conclude the conference.
Brother Bamidele immediately calls Deacon Femi and Deacon Eze aside to a quiet place...)

BAMIDELE: Deacon Femi, Deacon Eze; how was the message?

FEMI: (Surprised) The message? It was okay, there was nothing special in the message.

EZE: Brother Bamidele, you mean you called us here to ask about the message?

BAMIDELE: Didn’t you both observe that the message is directed to us?

FEMI/EZE: (Confused) How?

BAMIDELE: The guest minister said that God told him to warn us of envy, hatred and pride.

FEMI: Yes! So how does that affect us?

BAMIDELE: We all know it’s because we were envious of Pastor Daniel and because of our
pride, that’s why we worked his transfer out of the region.

EZE: Who is envious of Pastor Daniel? Does he know what we know? Or does he have what we
have? You know the reason we wanted him out of the region was because he has been a
hindrance to our progress.

FEMI: Thank you Deacon Eze, God bless you sir, you have said it all. And moreover, we didn’t
do the transfer; do we have the power to do that? The mission office did it and we never planned
that he should be transferred to any village, the mission office also did it.

BAMIDELE: But….

FEMI: (Interrupts) It’s okay brother Bamidele, let this matter end here. Please don’t go and tell
anybody that we are behind the transfer of Pastor Daniel ooo; if you do, I will deny you o.

EZE: Same here

(They all leave the church premises after this discussion.)

At Pastor Bamidele’s residence … In the middle of the night, Pastor Bamidele cannot sleep, he is
still pondering on Pastor Evans’ message; he reads the theme scripture verse – 2 Timothy 2:19-
21 over and over again. Then he decides to pray for God’s mercy and pray for Pastor Daniel
also.

67
THE WAITING ROOM

SCENE 30

Pastor Daniel and Kunle visit the houses of all the new converts to counsel and to pray for them.
God backs up the visitation with signs and wonders; houses where they have the sick, they are all
healed; houses where they have the blind; they recover their sights, the lame walk and many
other testimonies.

In the kingdom of darkness:

The prince of the kingdom confronts the demon in charge of Iragbiji village – Mazoka…

PRINCE: Mazoka! The terrestrial demon in charge of Iragbiji land

MAZOKA: Yes – my prince

PRINCE: What have you done? The territory in your care is gradually escaping from my
bondage. I can see them getting restored, I can see them becoming enlightened by the truth, I can
see light replacing darkness; Mazoka, why have you suddenly become careless with the territory
in your care?

MAZOKA: I have always been at my duty post to ensure I don’t fail in the task given to me
until the king of glory came, my prince.

OTHER DEMONS: (Amazed) King of glory! Who is the king of glory?

MAZOKA: He said He’s the Lord strong and mighty, the Lord mighty in battle, the Lord of
hosts.

(Immediately, the kingdom shakes and all the demons and the prince tremble as they bow…)

PRINCE: (Angry) Mazoka! You know I don’t take any excuse for an answer, you have allowed
the king of glory because of your carelessness, but that’s none of my business. Get back my
territory or else you will see my wrath.

MAZOKA: My prince, the king of glory is the mighty one, I can’t confront him.

PRINCE: (In a loud voice) Then attack the one he has sent to take my territory; kill him. Go
now!!!

(Immediately, Mazoka appears in Pastor Daniel’s room; he is sleeping with his wife. As Mazoka
lifts up a sharp sword to kill Pastor Daniel; an angel appears and says …)

ANGEL: Touch not my anointed and do my prophet no harm.

(Mazoka disappears immediately and appears back to the kingdom…)

PRINCE: (Upset) Mazoka! You are a failure. Go to the deepest part of hell; go!!!

68
THE WAITING ROOM

(The prince re-assigns two other demons to frustrate Pastor Daniel from accomplishing his
divine assignment in Iragbiji village…)

69
THE WAITING ROOM

SCENE 31

It is another Sunday service. This time, the church is crowded so they have to use outside the
church for service because of the size of the church. They get more chairs and benches around
for everyone to sit.

A lot of the people come out to share their testimonies of what God has done in their lives since
Pastor Daniel’s coming to the village. After the testimony, Pastor Daniel comes up to minister
the word; immediately he starts his ministration, two demons appear visibly; the whole
congregation run for their dear lives leaving Pastor Daniel, his wife and Kunle.

DEMON: Pastor! We have come to warn you to stay away from this land because this land
belongs to us.

DANIEL: You lie; this land does not belong to you, it belongs to the Lord because the word of
God says, the earth is the Lord’s and its fullness thereof, the world and they that dwell therein.

DEMON: (Chuckles) Are you not even afraid?

DANIEL: The Lord is my light and salvation; whom shall I fear? The Lord is the strength of my
life; of whom shall I be afraid?

DEMON: (Laughs) We can see you are the stubborn type; we know how to handle people like
you, your mates that did same in the past did not live to share the testimony. This is just a
warning visit, when next we come, we will strike; you and your family shall die.

RACHAEL: You lie! We shall not die but live to declare the works of the Lord in this land.

DEMON: Then wait and see.

(Both demons disappear at once. Most of the members are still around, they only went to hide
themselves to watch what happens. They begin to return one after the other; Pastor Daniel
challenges them to be strong in faith and not to run away from any demon but to confront them
with the word of God, because the one in them is greater than any demon.

He charges them to be courageous because more confrontations will still befall the church, so
they should be strong in prayer, have the word of God in them and be filled with the Holy Spirit.
They end, praying together.)

THE WAITING ROOM

SCENE 32

At the palace of the king of Iragbiji village; the Chief Priest (the voice of the gods) walks into the
palace, greets the King and the chiefs.

KING: Ifabiyi, olori awon awo, (meaning – Chief Priest) the voice of the gods; what message do
we have from the gods?

IFABIYI: Hmm! Kabiyesi, the gods are angry.

KING: (Surprised, exclaims) The gods are angry? What do you mean Ifabiyi?

IFABIYI: The gods are angry with us because we have allowed a strange spirit with strange
doctrines into the land and its already dominating the lives of our people.

KING: (Confused) Ifabiyi, you are talking in parables; speak in the language that we understand.

IFABIYI: A pastor just arrived this land, he came with a strange spirit, full of strange doctrines
in order to corrupt the minds of our people and he has started already, he has successfully gained
some to himself just within few days.

KING: Ifabiyi, that must be Pastor Daniel, I’ve heard about him, the miracles he performs; the
blind see, the lame walk, pregnant women that are overdue for delivery suddenly deliver the
moment he prays for them. But is that not a good thing?

IFABIYI: No, it is not Kabiyesi; it’s a strategy to have our people and turn them to his slave
before our very eyes.

KING: No! Never!! The gods forbid it.

IFABIYI: Then we must act fast, he must be sent out of the land or else, we will see the wrath of
the gods.

KING: (Calls out in a loud voice) Guards!!!

GUARDS: Yes kabiyesi!!!

KING: Go and fetch me Pastor Daniel, tell him the king wants him now, make sure he comes
along with you.

(Some minutes later; the guards returns with Pastor Daniel. He greets the king and the chiefs)

KING: Pastor Daniel, or whatever they call you; I want to ask you a question and you must give
me an honest answer. What is your mission in this land?

DANIEL: (Smiles) Thank you Kabiyesi for this question. My mission is simple; I have come to
share the good news to the people of Iragbiji.

71
THE WAITING ROOM

KING: (Bemused) Good news? What good news?

DANIEL: (All smiles) The finished work of our Lord Jesus Christ on the cross of Calvary to
save and deliver men from their sins.

KING: Look here, Mr. Pastor, we already have some churches here and they have pastors; they
are already doing whatever you claim you came here to do and we are satisfied. So, as the king
of this village, I’m giving you an order now and not requesting; I give you two days to leave this
village or else you will be locked up in my dungeon.

DANIEL: (Amazed & curious) If I may ask kabiyesi; is there anything I have done wrong? Or
what exactly is my offence?

OTUN: (Outraged) You dare not question the king when he gives an order. The King has
spoken, so be it.

OSI: It’s simple and clear, we don’t want you here anymore. Go, leave our people alone.

DANIEL: Unfortunately, the one who sent me has not told me to leave; He’s the only one that
can tell me to leave.

(The king and his chiefs are amazed at Pastor Daniel’s response…)

KING: (Amazed & upset) Who are you young man to defy my order and who is he that sent you
that is greater than I as far as this kingdom is concerned?

DANIEL: He’s the king of kings, the lord of lords; the one who owns the whole earth and its
fullness thereof.

KING: (laughs scornfully) I can see, you are insane, young man. My order remains; you have
just two days or else I will see if the one who sent you will be able to deliver you from my hands.
Get out of my palace.

(Pastor Daniel leaves the palace at once.)

72
THE WAITING ROOM

SCENE 33

Two days later. Pastor Daniel is holding a bible study at the church, when some of the kings’
guards rush in and carry him away; they burn down the church building.

When they reach the palace, the King orders the guards to give him the beating of his life. After
giving him thorough torture, they take him to the dungeon; the king ensures the gate is well-
chained and locked with a very strong padlock and he kept the key to himself to ensure he gets
neither food nor water till he dies. The king boasts, no one can deliver Pastor Daniel from my
hand.

Rachael, Kunle and some church members are together at Pastor Daniel’s house to intercede for
him, even he also, is praying and singing in the dungeon. All of a sudden, the gate chains fall off
on its own, the padlock opens and the gate opens wide. Obviously, he knows it’s the power of
God at work. The guards assigned to him are suddenly asleep, so Pastor Daniel leaves for home
immediately. As he enters the house and everyone see him; they shout for joy.

At the king’s palace, one of the guards suddenly wakes up and see the dungeon gate wide open
and empty; he immediately run to the king and inform him. The king is in shock, he checks where
he kept the keys, they are intact; he then goes to the dungeon to see for himself. He is confused
and finds it so difficult to believe, knowing the keys were kept safe and no one could have taken
the keys where he kept them, and the chains were not broken nor the padlock…

The king decides not to worry, thinking Pastor Daniel must have run away from the village for
his dear life which is actually their desire but if peradventure he still finds him, then it is instant
death.

73
THE WAITING ROOM

SCENE 34

The next day at the king’s palace. One of the king’s guards rushes in…

GUARD: Kabiyesi, Pastor Daniel is still in the village, infact he’s currently holding a church
service in his house compound.

KING/CHIEFS: (Shocked and screams) What!!!

KING: Are you sure of what you are saying?

GUARD: Yes, I’m very sure kabiyesi, I saw him myself.

KING: (Upset) I will kill this stranger myself with my bare hands; Guards! Go there right away
and get him for me.

(Immediately, the guards leave as instructed. At the gate of Daniel’s house, they see an angelic
being in his angelic form, standing with a sword in his hand; very tall and fearful. The fear of the
angel made them run for their dear lives and they return to give the king a feedback, panting
heavily.)

GUARD: (Pants) Kabiyesi, we saw a strange being, a mighty giant, in front of Pastor Daniel’s
house. He’s very tall and very fearful, he has wings like a bird and he has a very long sword.

KING: (Confused) Did you say you saw such a strange creature in front of Pastor Daniel’s
house?

GUARD: Yes kabiyesi

KING: Otun, please go with the guards to this Pastor’s house and confirm what they have said.

(Otun goes with them with all confidence ready to see whoever this strange creature is. On
seeing the angel, he shivers and almost urinates on himself. He returns to the palace, panting
and shivering at the same time…)

OTUN: Kabiyesi O! Since I have been in this world, I have never seen such kind of creature in
my entire life; very tall, he has wings like a bird, his face is shining like a sun.

(The king and the other chiefs are confused and worried…)

KING: Truly, this pastor is not an ordinary person, that’s why the gods do not want him in the
land. We need to call ifabiyi to consult the gods to tell us how we can chase him out of the land,
or what do you think my chiefs?

CHIEFS: Yes, Kabiyesi; let’s call Ifabiyi.

74
THE WAITING ROOM

(The king is about sending one of the guards to Ifabiyi; Ifabiyi’s daughter – Aderonke comes in
weeping…)

KING: (Curious) Aderonke, omo Ifabiyi; what happened? Why are you crying?

ADERONKE: (Weeping) My father is dead! (Wails)

(The whole palace is thrown into mourning…)

KING: Aderonke, sorry for the loss; but how come? How did it happen?

ADERONKE: He suddenly screamed from sleep saying my neck! My neck!! And from then, he
became paralyzed on the bed, he could not walk, he could not lift up his hand and could not talk
well; but he managed to tell me something to tell the king.

KING: (Anxious) And, what is it?

ADERONKE: He said if the king does not chase out Pastor Daniel from the land, there will be
more death in the land including the king.

KING/CHIEFS: (Scream) Haaa! The gods forbid!

KING: My chiefs, what do we do now?

(All the chiefs are quiet, they have no response…)

KING: (Upset) Since none of you will speak, then I will handle this myself.

(The king grabs a gun from one of the guards and heads straight to Pastor Daniel’s house; the
chiefs immediately rally round him)

OTUN: Kabiyesi, what do you want to do with a gun?

KING: I’m going to that devilish pastor that wants to kill me before my time, before he kills me,
I will kill him first.

(The chiefs disagree with the king doing such but the king insists; as they are dragging this
matter, the king suddenly slumps. The chiefs immediately take him to his room with the help of
his wife.

The chiefs return and agree to go to Pastor Daniel’s house to plead with him to leave their land,
without force this time around, so that he can leave in peace. And even if they meet the strange
being, they will prostrate and plead because the king’s life is at stake.

When they get close to Pastor Daniel’s house, they watch carefully to see if they will see the
strange being, but fortunately for them, it is Pastor Daniel and wife they see outside discussing.
So they come to them and prostrate; they are both surprised and embarrassed.)

75
THE WAITING ROOM

DANIEL: Chiefs, what’s the meaning of this? Why are you prostrating? Please get up?

OTUN: No please, let us remain like this, we have come to beg you in the name of the God you
serve; please leave this land for us, please go back to where you came from or else, we will all
die?

DANIEL: (Confused) What do you mean? Who told you, you will die?

OSI: The gods of the land are angry because of your presence and they have warned us through
the chief priest that if we don’t send you out, we will all die.

DANIEL: (Smiles) That’s the lie of the devil, the devil is only lying to you so that you will
remain in his bondage.

OTUN: It’s not a lie o, this is a truth o; the chief priest is dead, he died this morning. As we
speak, the king is also dying, he slumped this evening; please help us o, don’t let us die.

DANIEL: I’m sorry for the loss of the chief priest, but as for the king, let me come and pray for
him, I believe the Lord will heal him.

OSI: No! Please don’t come o; just leave our land, that’s what we want.

DANIEL: I will leave this land when the one who sent me tells me to.

OTUN: Please, we beg you in the name of God that you serve, don’t let us die.

DANIEL: I assure you in the name of the Lord, no one will die, even the king will not die; he
will live.

(When they chiefs realize that Pastor Daniel will not yield, they all stand, dust their clothes and
caps and leave).

76
THE WAITING ROOM

SCENE 35

The next day, Rachael is feverish, her body temperature is rising. Pastor Daniel brings her some
medications and prays for her but she isn’t better, so he wants to take her to the hospital. As they
are about leaving the house; Kunle rushes in to inform them that the king is dead. Pastor Daniel
is confused, he decides that Kunle should help take his wife to the hospital while he quickly goes
to the palace.

At the palace, there is a crowd of people weeping and wailing profusely; he requests to see the
king but the guards and the chiefs do not permit him, as they accuse him of killing the king; but
after much pleading to permit him to pray for the king, they allow him.

Pastor Daniel enters the room where the king is laid and prays from his heart for him. As he
continues praying; the king sees himself being dragged by the devil and suddenly Jesus appears
and commands the devil…

JESUS: Leave him alone!!!

DEVIL: Why Lord? This one is for me.

JESUS: He has found mercy in my sight; I will have mercy on whom I will have mercy upon.

(The devil leaves him immediately and the king asks Jesus…)

KING: Who are you? And why have you decided to deliver me from the place of eternal
destruction where I actually belong?

JESUS: I am Jesus, the king of kings and the Lord of Lords; I saved you from eternal
destruction because my servant is praying for you; look at him (shows him Pastor Daniel as he’s
praying for him). Now, go back, my servant will tell you more about me and how you can
receive me into your life; go!!!

(The king suddenly comes back to life with a shout – THANK YOU JESUS!!! It is like a dream to
everyone in the palace; the king rises up strong and healthy. There is great rejoicing in the
palace. The king shares the revelation he had to Pastor Daniel and everyone in the palace; he
concludes by asking Pastor Daniel to lead every one of them to Christ)

The king asks forgiveness from Pastor Daniel for all he had done to him and promises to build a
befitting place of worship for the Lord.

(Pastor Daniel’s phone rings; it is his wife calling…)

DANIEL: Hello dear, how are you doing now? I’m coming to the hospital now.

RACHAEL: Don’t bother coming to the hospital, I’m fine already. I’m on my way back home.

77
THE WAITING ROOM

DANIEL: (Surprised) Really?

RACHAEL: I became fine immediately the doctor gave me the good news.

DANIEL: (Curious) Good news? What good news?

RACHAEL: (Overjoyed) The Lord has done it, the Lord has done it o, at last!

DANIEL: (Anxious) Dear, talk to me, what has the Lord done?

RACHAEL: The doctor said I’m two weeks pregnant.

DANIEL: (Screams) Two weeks what?

RACHAEL: I am pregnant (…in tears)

DANIEL: You are pregnant! (Kneels and weeps…)

(Everyone in the palace wondered what could have happened to Pastor Daniel for him to be
weeping. The king then asks and he explains. The whole palace rejoices with him)

78
THE WAITING ROOM

SCENE 36

(A month later… At the King’s palace; The King’s son – Gbadebo; who is based abroad – UK
comes home having received news that the King, his father and the villagers have acknowledged
Jesus as their Lord and Savior.

The King, the queen, Pastor Daniel and Rachael are in the palace as Gbadebo shares his
excitement…)

GBADEBO: When my father called to inform me about his salvation experience and that this
village has been declared for Jesus; no more idol worshipping, I thought I was dreaming until I
got confirmation from two other people. My heart has been filled with joy because this has
always been my heart desire for the past 15years that I have given my life to Christ in the United
Kingdom. I have always desired to see my parents taste what I have tasted. My whole life
transformed the day I met Jesus; my life has a new meaning. I tried all I could to bring my
parents to Christ but all to no avail because they were deep in idol worshipping; my father had
even rejected me as his son because of my faith in Jesus. But today, God in His awesomeness has
used the ministry of Pastor Daniel to bring to pass my long awaited desire; not only my parents,
but to the entire village.

DANIEL: (Elated) To God be the glory sir.

GBADEBO: My father told me he burnt down the church, but now that he’s in Christ; he
promises to use everything within his power to build a befitting house of worship for the Lord.
I’m an Architect by profession; I have come up with the building plan; it’s going to be a mighty
edifice to honour God in this village. (Hands over the building plan to Pastor Daniel).

DANIEL: (Amazed) Wow! This is a huge project; this will cost a lot.

KING: Yes, it will; but Jesus, the king of kings and the Lord of Lords is more than able. All the
funds needed for the project, Jesus has provided even beyond the budget.

DANIEL/RACHAEL: (Surprised) Wow!

DANIEL: Hallelujah!!!

KING: My son and I have donated the sum of fifty million naira; some of my King friends that
are Christians also sent their support when I discussed the project with them; but the most
shocking part of it all that made me fear this God is that I don’t know how the Governor of this
state got to know about this. He personally called me yesterday and said he wants to be part of
this project.

DANIEL/RACHAEL: (Amazed) Wow! Wow! Wow! This good news, Jesus be praised!

79
THE WAITING ROOM

KING: The governor is a strong believer of Jesus; he was actually born in this village but got
born again when he left this village. It’s a great joy for him hearing his home town has been
declared for Jesus.

(Pastor Daniel sings a song: We are serving a God of miracle…. They all sing the song,
dancing to the glory of God.

They all visit the Land to be used for the new church building to pray on it).

80
THE WAITING ROOM

SCENE 37

At the Regional office – Pastor Demola’s office. Pastor Demola is with Deacon Femi who has
recently been ordained a Pastor. Pastor Demola gives him a letter sent from the Headquarters.
He reads the letter and exclaims…

FEMI: What’s the meaning of this sir?

DEMOLA: I believe you understood what you read. You have been relieved from your position
as a pastor in this mission and you are to report at the Missions Disciplinary Committee first
thing tomorrow morning.

FEMI: (Getting upset) Why? What’s my offence?

DEMOLA: (Shakes his head) I’m really ashamed of you, Deacon or Pastor Femi; I don’t even
know which to call you now. Why will you allow yourself to be an instrument of the devil
because of the title of a pastor? You conspired with Pastor Andrew - the Assistant Pastor in
charge of missions transfer to transfer Pastor Daniel out of the Region and you maneuvered your
way to become the parish pastor. (In disbelieve…) Where is the fear of God? Pastor Andrew
openly confessed to the Missions Disciplinary Committee yesterday. So tell me, what have you
gained in this foolish act of yours?

FEMI: (Grumbling) Is it my fault? When Pastor Daniel too denied me of my right? I have been
overdue to be ordained as a pastor but he will always deny me of getting ordained.

DEMOLA: (Shocked) Oh my God! So you can still brag? When I expected you to be sobbing in
tears and asking the Lord for mercy.

FEMI: (Upset) Me! I should cry? For what? (Stands up) to hell with your church, to hell with
your disciplinary committee; I will rather go and start my own church (throws the letter away
and leaves in anger.)

DEMOLA: (Jaw drops) Am I dreaming? (Looks up) Hmm! Oh Lord, have mercy upon your
church.

81
THE WAITING ROOM

SCENE 38

Eight months later….

Pastor Daniel enters his house with so much excitement as he calls his wife…

DANIEL: Sweetheart! Where are you?

RACHAEL: Yes dear (answers as she comes into the living room)

DANIEL: Guess what dear.

RACHAEL: (Smiles in curiosity) I can’t guess joor, what’s it?

DANIEL: Okay o; the General Overseer is coming to dedicate the new church building.

RACHAEL: (Excited) Wow! It’s a lie; who told you that?

DANIEL: The Pastor in charge of Osun state Region called to inform me now that the G.O
promised to come for the dedication.

(Rachael suddenly feels a sharp pain in her tummy; it’s time to deliver. Pastor Daniel carries
her to the Hospital.

To the glory of God, she gives birth to twins – a boy and a girl.)

82
THE WAITING ROOM

SCENE 39

It’s a day of great celebration for Pastor Daniel and his wife as the day for the dedication of the
new church building coincides with their children naming ceremony; a two-in-one celebration
day.

All the villagers gather in front of the new church building as they await the General Overseer
and others. The state Pressmen are present to air the event.

After a short while, the General Overseer, the King of the village with some other kings,
Gbadebo, Pastor Daniel, his wife with the twins and Pastor Daniel’s mother come in. Everyone
present welcome them with great joy.

Just as the General Overseer is about to conduct the dedication of the church building; the
Governor of the state drives in with his entourage. They all give him a standing ovation and a
warm welcome.

The General Overseer dedicates the church building and names the twins inside the new church
building.

It is indeed a great joy for Pastor Daniel and wife to have these great men – the General
Overseer, the Governor and Kings come to honour their day. The long awaited promise of God
has finally come to a reality. There is a lot to eat and drink; everyone present eat to their
satisfaction.

Pastor Demola arrives with church members from Lagos including Deacon Eze and brother
Bamidele. They both plead for Pastor Daniel’s forgiveness for their wrong deeds; Pastor Daniel
in turn prays for them.

The event is aired on T.V; Deacon Femi is lying down in a Hospital bed in Lagos, when he sees
the event on T.V. He is in deep shock and begins to weep. He had had a severe accident and both
legs are paralyzed.

Later in the evening, after everyone had left remaining Pastor Daniel and Family; Pastor Daniel
is alone in the room looking at the twins with overwhelming joy in his heart.

He remembers again when God gave him the vision fifteen years ago in school that he will go
into full time ministry with a promise of divine greatness – that he will be blessed with numerous
children – biological and spiritual. That Gentiles shall come to his light and kings shall come to
the brightness of his rising (Isaiah 60:3) and he shall stand before kings and not mean men
(Proverbs 22:29).

He unseals two envelopes earlier received from the General Overseer and the Governor and
reads the content:

83
THE WAITING ROOM

GENERAL OVERSEER: Congratulations on the dedication of your new church building and
the naming of your long awaited babies. I’m pleased to inform you that you have been appointed
as the new National Church Growth Officer, Nationwide; and also accept our invitation to
minister at the forth coming Annual International Convention of the church. God bless you.

GOVERNOR: Accept my congratulations Pastor Daniel and Family for your two in one
celebration. I’m glad you released yourself to be used by God for the salvation of my home town
– the land I was born; a land known for idol worshipping. God bless your ministry sir. I’m using
this opportunity to invite you to minister at my 60th birthday coming up on the 15th of Next
month. I believe it will be an opportunity for you to preach the word of salvation to other state
Governors, men in authorities that will be present and are not saved. Thank you.

Having read the two letters; Pastor Daniel concludes by saying to himself:

DANIEL: Truly, God is not a man that He should lie; neither the son of man that He should
repent: hath he said, and He will not do it? Or hath he spoken, and He shall not make it good?
Hmm! For the vision is yet for an appointed time, but at the end it shall speak, and not lie:
though it tarry, wait for it; because it will surely come, it will not tarry.

Has the Lord promised you anything or you trusting Him for something? Whatever it is; this is
my message to you: wait on the Lord, be of good courage and he shall strengthen thine heart:
wait I say on the LORD. (Psalm 27:14).

THE END!!!
