Composers
biographies
Gualtiero
Dazzi
An
Italian
composer
born
in
1960
in
Milan.
A
pupil
of
Paolo
Arata
and
Angelo
Paccagnini
at
the
Milan
Conservatory,
Gualtiero
Dazzi
pursued
his
training
in
computer
music,
dramaturgy
and
analysis
in
Paris
from
1982.
He
then
took
advanced
classes
with
Franco
Donatoni
(Sienna,
1985,
1987),
Luigi
Nono
(1989),
Tristan
Murail
and
Brian
Ferneyhough
(Royaumont
1991),
Pascal
Dusapin
and
Georges
Aperghis
(Acanthes
1994),
but
abstained
from
any
kind
of
allegiance
or
partisanship.
In
2009
the
Académie
des
Beaux-‐arts
awarded
him
the
Florent
Schmitt
Prize.
Pascal
Zavaro
Pascal
Zavaro
likes
music
with
a
beat,
dynamic
music
that
makes
you
sway
your
hips,
an
infectious
energy
that
does
not
hide
his
descent,
from
the
American
minimalist
to
rock.
But
the
range
of
influences
on
which
the
composer
feeds
is
broad,
from
the
madrigalists
to
Stravinsky,
by
way
of
Bach
and
Bartok.
Zavaro
draws
the
expressive
force
of
his
music
from
clearly-‐affirmed
harmonic
thinking,
putting
brackets-‐without,
for
all
that,
misjudging-‐
the
erring
ways
of
post-‐serialism
and
its
powerlessness
to
express
anything
but
«
grey,
black,
fear
and
anguish
»
(Messiaen
).
Zavaro’s
music
can
be
explained
but,
above
all,
it
is
felt,
tactile
and
beating.
Thierry
Machuel
A
French
composer
born
June
30,
1962
in
Paris.
A
pianist
and
improviser,
Thierry
Machuel
studied
composition
on
his
own
after
having
studied
at
the
Paris
Conservatory.
In
residence
at
the
Villa
Medici
(1996-‐1998),
then
at
the
Casa
de
Velázquez
(1999-‐2001).
He
regularly
collaborates
with
actors,
visual
artistes,
video
makers,
scenographers
as
well
as
authors
of
texts
and
poems,
the
prosody
of
which
he
restores,
whatever
the
language.
His
technique
of
composition,
inspired
by
the
spoken
voice,
displays
a
melodic,
harmonic
and
aural
invention,
and
deliberately
combines
music
and
noise.
Respectful
of
the
text,
his
music
is
evocative
and
accessible
despite
complex
counterpoint.
