1. When did Alaol live? What disagreements people had over the place of his birth? Briefly explain the

significant incident happened to him during his journey to Chittagong.

Ans: He was born in 1607 AD. There are disagreements over the place of his birth because many scholars

say that he was born in Chittagong while others say Faridpur. He was going to Chittagong with his

father by boat when they were attacked by Portuguese pirates. The pirates killed his father and captured

him. He was then sent to Arakan in Myanmar.

2.In which areas of culture did Syed Alaol work?

Ans: He mostly worked with Bengali, Persian and Hindi. Many were poems he translated made by people

from other cultures. He also did many of his own work, Bangla songs. Alaol is mostly hailed as one of the

great poets who introduced romantic themes in Bangla poetry.
