2. According to the understanding of the previous references and your own
research on internet, each student of the group chooses one of the following
topics to broaden his knowledge:

 Patents
 Copyrights
 Trademarks
 Industrial Designs
 Trade Secrets

3. Post the topic selection in the Discussion forum – Unit 1, according to the
following chart, also, as a group, identify who will be the student in charge of
delivering the final document at the Evaluation Environment:

Activities Assignment and Work Responsibilities

Group Number:
Unit name:
Selected topic Student name
Patents Student 1. Name
Copyrights Student 2. Name
Trademarks Student 3. Name
Industrial Designs Student 4. Name
Trade Secrets Student 5. Name
Student chosen to submit the Student Name
final document to the Evaluation
Environment:

Each student must respect the other students´ selection, it means for
example, if one student selects Patents, none of the other four students can
develop the Patents, they must choose another topic. In case a second student
presents the development related to Patents, it won´t be evaluated.

Note: If some of your classmates don't chose some topic because he or she
doesn't participate in the forum, the group can present only the topics developed
for the classmates who have participated in the job. It means for example if there
are only three active students, the document will have only three topics
developed, however, as explained in Activity 1, all students must read and review
all references to have a general understanding of all topics.

2
4. According to the topic chosen previously, the review of Unit 1 references
and your own search on internet, each student must:

Design a creative one-page infographic including the following:

 Student name
 Group number
 Date
 Selected topic (Patents, Copyrights, Trademarks, Industrial Designs,
Trade Secrets)
 Selected topic definition and important concepts
 An example to illustrate the selected topic
 Colombian office in charge of ruling the registration according to the
topic (If applicable)
 Registration process according to the topic (If applicable)
 Requirements and fees for registration in Colombia (If applicable)

Collaborative
The group must develop the following activities:

5. Each student reads and reviews the following reference for Unit 1 at the
Learning Environment

Dane (2019), Technical Bulletin Survey of Technological Development and

Innovation - Manufacturing Industry 2017-2018. Chapter 6 Intellectual
property and Quality certifications (pp 34-39).

6. Based on the understanding of chapter 6 of the previous reference and his

own research on internet, the group selects one of the obstacles to register
industry property identified by Colombian companies in the manufacturing
industry, posting the vote of each student in the following chart:

3
Problem selection chart
Group Number:
Unit name:
Obstacles to register Intellectual Votes
Property
Excessive processing time
Lack of benefit information
Poor effectiveness in providing
protection
Unfavorable cost-benefit balance
Difficulty meeting requirements
Low internal management capacity
No new ideas are generated
liable to obtain records
Obstacle selected by the group: Write the obstacle with more
votes

7. Once the obstacle has been selected by the group, each student develops the
following activity:

Hand draw a billboard using the resources you have (cardstock, paper, acrylic
board) as a visual aid for a presentation of the problem selected previously,
faced by Colombian companies to protect its intellectual property, including:

 Student name
 Date
 Unit name
 A problem tree with: problem, causes and consequences related to
the selected obstacle (it means the obstacles with more votes) faced
by companies in Colombia to register its intellectual property.

8. Once the hand draw billboard is done, take a picture and build a PowerPoint
presentation including:

 Cover (Student name, date, unit name, tutor name)

 Problem tree picture

4
 As a consultor for a company that wants to register its intellectual
property, each student proposes two recommendations to avoid the
obstacle defined in the problem tree, it means the obstacle selected
by the group, applying the concepts studied in this unit, evidencing
its competences as an industrial engineering professional.

9. Each student records a 2 - 3 minutes video where he appears using his

camera, showing the PowerPoint presentation indicating his name, mentioning
the date, explaining the problem tree defined previously and the
recommendations for the company in Colombia to avoid the obstacle
identified.

Save the video in YouTube or any other resource to get a public link and share
it in the Discussion Forum – Unit 1.

In case you don´t have a software to record videos including your camera,
you can visit the following link and use the free tool to record the screen
online: https://www.apowersoft.es/grabador-de-pantalla-gratis

10. All students in the group read and review the activities developed by the
other members, consolidate all evidences in a PDF and the student selected
in Activity 3, submits it at the Evaluation Environment, according to the
