 1. GOALS.

1.1 Overall objective

Recognize intellectual property protection as a key tool to develop technologic innovation inside
companies.

1.2 Specific objectives

• Thoroughly analyze the concepts in the document attached to the unit to be developed.
• Develop the activities proposed by the activity guide.
• Participate in the forum of activities in order to establish collaborative learning on the subject.
 2. INTRODUCTION.

Throughout the history of humanity, there has been a constant fluctuation between the resources
available to them and the need of human beings to satisfy their needs. For this reason it has been
provided by nature to make a rational and responsible use of these, in order not to overvalue and
exploit them affecting the development of future generations.

It is in this sense that the valuation and negotiation of technology has its birth, it is not an area
alien to the individual and belonging only to organizations, but is directly linked to the
development of human activity, that is, it is not it can speak of negotiation if there is no activity
to develop and control both from what is considered individual and from what is considered
collective.

For the clear development of this idea, it is important to consider that man's life is directly related
to being and doing individually and in community, that is why an organization (whether private
or public) would not work if there were no beings humans coordinating activities and carrying
out tasks generated precisely by the individual skills that are put at the service of it to achieve an
objective or satisfy needs (individual or common), through a production system, which does not
necessarily imply that it is talking of a good, this also implies services.

For this reason, it is said that evaluation and negotiation are linked to the administration and
rational distribution of resources; The responsibility of this administration and rational
distribution increases if it is considered to take it in an integral way, that is, not only from the
economic perspective but also from the social perspective, since not only the tangible but also
the intangible ones are taken as resources.

Taking into account the above, this document shows these fundamentals, taking into account
their definition and relationship with human reality, based on the task-based learning strategy.
 3. DEVELOPING.

Individual

The student must develop the following activities:

1. Update the profile, including a current picture where the student can be identified.

2. Review all environments and download and analyze the syllabus of the course at the Learning
Environment to have a clear understanding of the proposal, competences and contents to
develop.

3. Visit the Course´s General forum at the Initial Environment and participate on the Social
Interaction Forum, sharing in English the following information:

- Student´s name
- Student´s group
- Professional profile
- Expectations with this course and the course language (English).

Take a screenshot of your message on the forum, to be included in the final work.
4. Visit the Synchronous attention by SkypePage at the Initial Environment and identify and
include the skype user of your tutor to your contacts list in Skype, to send him a message asking
to be included in the skype group of the course, indicating the following:

- Student´s name
- Course name
- Student´s group number.

Take a screenshot of your message on skype or of your participation in the skype group, to be
included in the final work

Innovation in Colombia: A problem or a solution?

In recent years, the world has seen a constant fluctuation in the way it expresses, communicates
and acts; This is due to the advancement of technology, the increase in the population, the
diversification of the market and the political stakes, which especially in globalized countries has
promoted competitiveness and the advancement of investments to improve their processes and
the full satisfaction of your needs.

Faced with this change, Colombia has not been left behind, it has generated different
mechanisms to be immersed in this change, such as through free trade agreements with
economically stable countries, the application of tariff measures, the promotion of foreign
investment and many more. Which have allowed the improvement of the quality of life of
citizens, but in the same way they have generated in the population a certain tone of degradation
at the social and labor levels, due to the way in which they have been hiring.

However, and due to this, social and political leaders have emerged who have started a path for
this change, an example of this is the case of Parquesoft, in Cali - Colombia who, starting in a
rudimentary way, undertook with the individual effort of entrepreneurs local in order to provide
a solution at the local level of problems that appear globally in the technological world.

Despite initial efforts and difficulties due to lack of state investment, Parquesoft has currently
developed several patents to serve the global software market. Currently this business model is
already distributed throughout the country, seeking to strengthen enterprises in the area of
information technology development.

As in this case, in the country various private institutions have carried out their developments not
only at a technological level but also at a productive level, as in the case of the Alpine company.
So far (for the year 2018) 737 patents have been registered in the country, according to data from
the superintendency of industry and commerce, however recently in the country the growth of
patents fell by 18% according to data from the same entity compared to the same period of the
previous year (Year 2019).

At this point, as Colombians, the following questions often arise: what can be done to improve
this situation? How is the state protecting these innovations? And what is the state doing to
strengthen this sector? However, the answers to these questions are not very clear, which
generates large gaps at the legal and commercial level in the realization of this economic activity.

To start in Colombia, it is important to bet on the culture of innovation, for this it is not only
necessary to offer computers to all people, but it is also important to review the lack of
diversification of operators, as well as the lack of coverage network that in some areas of the
country they have. It is also important that the average cost of the connection is lowered, since it
is more expensive for the ordinary citizen, many times to connect to an internet network than to
call by cell phone. In short, this part is the responsibility of the state and it is important that it be
mobilized in order to guarantee citizen accessibility.

On the other hand, although technology has made many things easier, it is also true that in some
sectors, people tend to spoil their habits more quickly than a few years ago. This is an individual
responsibility. You decide if you want to continue like this or not, because in the world the
constant changes are going to devour whoever stays like this. And you will probably find
yourself in a few years frustrated and bitter about the way you think that directly affected your
economy.

Finally, it is worth mentioning that not only the culture of innovation is sufficient, it is also
necessary to develop it within the approaches of planning, personnel management, generation of
ideas or what is known as innovation and resilience. Well, it is clear that on this path, it is
necessary to fail many times before having a definitive solution.

 4. CONCLUSIONS

Through the recognition of the protection of intellectual property as a key tool to develop
technological innovation within companies; Through a review where the role of intellectual
property and its application in the business world is identified, it is known the importance that
organizations and society give to this type of practice, which although in some industries go
unnoticed In others, they are very useful to avoid cases of plagiarism and lawsuits for unethical
behavior.

Intellectual property itself is defined as a way in which human creations are protected, which are
the product of the creative effort made by a person and are specifically intangible and
immaterial. They must meet certain requirements that are specified in the area of law. Knowing
this saves future legal hassle from misuse of these inventions.

Thanks to this activity, it was possible to know the impact of intellectual property on human
activities within a framework of legality, which both in the world and in Colombia is protected
and is currently openly promoted. .

On the other hand, the issues that have to do with the development of this intellectual property
and its protection agencies were analyzed, as well as the consequences of ignorance that may
arise from not taking this area into account.

Finally, the development of intellectual property in the industry was understood, through the
readings found in the knowledge environment of the first unit.
