BLUETHOOTH

Bluetooth is a wireless technology standard used for exchanging data between fixed
and mobile devices over short distances using short-wavelength UHF radio waves in the
industrial, scientific and medical radio bands, from 2.400 to 2.485 GHz, and building
personal area networks (PANs). It was originally conceived as a wireless alternative to RS-
232 data cables.

Bluetooth is managed by the Bluetooth Special Interest Group (SIG), which has more
than 35,000 member companies in the areas of telecommunication, computing, networking,
and consumer electronics. The IEEE standardized Bluetooth as IEEE 802.15.1, but no longer
maintains the standard. The Bluetooth SIG oversees development of the specification,
manages the qualification program, and protects the trademarks. A manufacturer must meet
Bluetooth SIG standards to market it as a Bluetooth device. A network of patents apply to the
technology, which are licensed to individual qualifying devices. As of 2009, Bluetooth
integrated circuit chips ship approximately 920 million units annually. And before the next, I
will explain about history.

The making of bluetooth was promoted by 5 large telecommunications companies,

namely Ericson, IBM, Intel, Nokia and Toshiba. They formed the Special Interest Group
(ISG) which launched this project. In July 1999, Bluetooth specification document version
1.0 began to be launched. In December 1999, production of the Bluetooth specification
document version 2.0 began again with the addition of 4 new promoters, namely 3com,
Lucent Technologies, Microsoft and Motorola. At present more than 1800 companies in
various fields join a consorium that adopts Bluetooth technology. Although the Bluetooth
SIG standard is currently owned by the promoter group, it is expected to become a world
standard. The name bluetooth comes from the name of the king in the tenth century, namely
Harald Blatand. In England, he was nicknamed Harald Bluetooth because (probably) his teeth
were dark in color. He was a Danish King who succeeded in uniting previously divided tribes
and wars, including tribes from what is now Norway and Sweden. Even the Scania region,
where Bluetooth technology is found, is also his territory. The ability of Raja Harald as a
innovator is also similar to the current Bluetooth technology which can connect various
equipment, such as computers with mobile phones. ِ And next I will explain about function,

1. Sending and Receiving Data / Files

As we know, the main function of Bluetooth is to send and receive data or files. By
using Bluetooth you can send files in the form of documents, images, songs and other data
through mobile phones, mobile phones to a computer or vice versa without having to install a
data cable. How to send it is very easy, you activate Bluetooth on each device, then you just
find the Bluetooth device that is available and then you connect it. Once connected you are
free to exchange files or data between these devices.

2. Bluetooth Handsfree and Headphone audio

One of the other Bluetooth functions is that Bluetooth can be used for handsfree and
headphones. With the existence of Bluetooth you no longer have to bother connecting it using
cable media. With this feature, you can communicate and listen to songs easily and simply.

3. Use of Wireless Keyboard and Mouse

At present there is a wide spread of wireless keyboard and mouse devices. In

connecting the two devices the connecting media use Bluetooth. With the development of a
wireless mouse and keyboard, it makes it easier for us to work on a computer without the
hassle of managing cables.

4. Print documents with a wireless printer

In addition to the wireless keyboard and mouse, now many wireless printers have
been circulating. Only by activating Bluetooth, we can print documents or files that we
want. With the existence of a wireless printer device, it makes it easier and more efficient to
work. We no longer need to bother installing cables when printing documents.
5. Used as a modem

Another function of Bluetooth is that it can be used as a modem. This is perfect for
those of you who like to access social media, chat or just browsing on the internet. You
simply setting on a computer, then you can connect to the internet via bluetooth media.

The advantages of Bluetooth include: Bluetooth can penetrate walls even though the
transmission distance is only 10 meters, Bluetooth is a wireless device that works without
needing a cable, Bluetooth can integrate the existing data base on the cell phone with a
computer, Bluetooth can also be used as a modem

Deficiency of Bluetooth include: Use the same frequency waves as standard LAN
waves, Many security mechanisms in Bluetooth must be considered to prevent failures in
sending data, The number of Bluetooth that is active in a room, makes it difficult to find the
Bluetooth receiver file, Many viruses can be spread via Bluetooth networks.

Most Characteristic Bluetooth applications are battery-powered Class 2 devices, with

little difference in range whether the other end of the link is a Class 1 or Class 2 device as the
lowerpowered device tends to set the range limit. In some cases the effective range of the
data link can be extended when a Class 2 device is connecting to a Class 1 transceiver with
both higher sensitivity and transmission power than a typical Class 2 device.[23] Mostly,
however, the Class 1 devices have a similar sensitivity to Class 2 devices. Connecting two
Class 1 devices with both high sensitivity and high power can allow ranges far in excess of
the typical 100m, depending on the throughput required by the application. Some such
devices allow open field ranges of up to 1 km and beyond between two similar devices
without exceeding legal emission limits.
