Different Type of Lighting Fixture

Track Lighting
Track lighting is mounted or suspended from the ceiling on a linear unit that contains several light heads,
which can be positioned anywhere along the track. The direction of the heads can also be adjusted. In
this room, the track lighting is used to highlight the artwork and wall and provide overall light for the
space.

Recessed Lighting
This light fixture is installed above the ceiling and has an opening that is flush with the ceiling. Recessed
lighting sends a relatively narrow band of light in one direction, so it can be used to provide ambient,
task or accent lighting. The recessed lighting in this kitchen adds sufficient light without overwhelming
the space.

Under-Cabinet Lighting
Mounted underneath kitchen cabinets, this type of lighting is extremely popular as task lighting in a
kitchen. The under-cabinet lights in this kitchen brighten up the room and enhance the contemporary,
clean feel of the space.

Floor Lamp
A versatile and portable light source, lamps come in a wide range of sizes and styles. This floor lamp
complements the room's design scheme and provides task lighting for the bordering chairs.

Table Lamp
A stylish table lamp can add character to a room while providing task light. This sophisticated
lamp could easily be used for reading.

Desk Lamp
Desk lamps provide task lighting, directing light downward on a work space .

Chandelier
Suspended from the ceiling, chandeliers direct light upward. They are typically installed over a table or
in a main entry foyer, but they are not strangers to bedrooms and bathrooms. Chandeliers enhance the
decorative style of a room and provide ambient lighting.

Wall Sconces
Wall sconces are very versatile. Surface-mounted to a wall, they can direct light upward or downward.
Wall sconces can add a stylistic touch to a room and can also provide ambient or task lighting. The
sconces in this bathroom provide flattering lighting while not subtracting from the impact of the tiled
wall.

Ceiling Lights
The ceiling lights in this Ceiling lights are mounted directly to the ceiling, with a glass or plastic shade
concealing the light bulb. Ceiling fixtures have been common in homes for nearly 100 hallway
complement the chandelier that is suspended from the ceiling.
Pendant Lighting
Suspended from the ceiling, a pendant light directs light down. It can easily enhance the decorative style
of a room and add character. In this space, the pendants are positioned to hang low over the bed-side
tables.

Cove Lighting
There are three common forms of architectural lighting, and cove lighting is a popular form. Cove
lighting is placed in a ledge, shelf or recess high up on a wall, and the light is bounced toward the ceiling
or upper wall. In this bedroom, the cove lighting illuminates the ceiling above the bed, adding a romantic
feel.

Soffit Lighting
Soffit lighting, another type of architectural lighting, radiates downward, washing the wall with light. In
this bedroom, soffit lighting adds interesting dimension behind the bed.

WHAT IS AMBIENT LIGHTING?

This is one of the most common types of lighting. Ambient light is a soft glow that blankets your space
just enough for you to function without causing a harsh glare. In photography and cinematography,
ambient light is considered the "natural light" within a room. In décor, ambient light is very similar,
except you create the ambient light by making the room's lighting as natural and flat as possible. While
ambient light is meant to get you safely from point A-to-B, it is not ideal for working closely with things
or to highlight things around your space.

WHAT IS TASK LIGHTING?

This is a smaller more concentrated light. You want task lighting around when you’re working. In fact,
some people call it office lighting. Task lighting is meant to help you see when you’re doing projects in
which you need a finer light, such as, reading, cooking, writing, sewing and many other things. Task
lighting only works well when it is used as a contrasting light. For example, if you have a low lit room
with a swing arm lamp turned on over your desk, the light over the desk surface will be more effective
with less glare or shadow-effect than if the entire room was lit with a brighter light.

WHAT IS ACCENT LIGHTING?

This is a very concentrated light with the intention of drawing the eye to its focal point. Accent lighting is
a way of adding style and drama to your home. This will help you illuminate the pieces you want on
display, while shadowing dull areas. People use accenting for wall washing, artwork, bookcase displays,
pieces of furniture, collections and the general architecture of their homes. Outdoor accent lighting is
when you highlight parts of the architecture of your home or yard. This is very popular during the
holidays, especially Halloween and Christmas.
SWING ARM LAMPS

Use lamps on your desks, bedside tables, mounted next to your favorite chair or anywhere you need a
little extra light for working. Swing arm lamps allow you to adjust the light anyway you’d like. Since
lamps are lightweight, portable, and adjustable these are the ideal task lights.

VANITY LIGHTING

Vanity lighting is standard in bathrooms and on dressing room tables. Bathroom and mirror lights
provide a bright, focused light to ensure your makeup and hair is done just right!

LANDSCAPE LIGHTING

These lights are the best for showing off the outside of your home. Use landscape lighting to light up a
pathway, prized garden or statue

LIGHT DIMMERS

For multiple types of lighting options consider using a light dimmer. Dimmers help achieve any mood or
look you’re looking for at the turn of a knob or push of a button.

A desk lamp is a great way to get the focused light that you need so that you can stay on task. They
generally are easy to move so that you can swing the arm around if you need to illuminate a different
area of your desk, making it easy to see exactly what you are working on. When you choose a desk lamp,
you will want to make sure that you use a bright bulb so that the light doesn’t have to compete too
much with the general lighting in your space.
Table lamps add both light and visual interest to your home, which is why when you are shopping for
one, you will want to take your time to choose one that will fit with the décor in the rest of your space.
These lamps often have shades that can be removed or changed so that you can make sure that you love
the way it looks in your home, and they are designed to fit nicely on a table in your home without taking
up too much room.

Wall Lamp
While these light fixtures may look similar to a sconce or other wall light, they have one major benefit
that will set them apart from other types of light fixtures on the market, and that’s that they will swing
out or angle so that you can easily adjust where the light will go. This makes it easy to either pull the
wall lamp towards you when you need additional light or to turn it so that it is angled and correctly
illuminating the item that you want to look at. They are great to have by your bed so that you can read
in bed without having to have the ceiling light on, and they are also ideal in a very small office if you
don’t have room for a floor lamp, but you still want to have enough light to see the project you are
working on.
A floor lamp is an attractive way to add a lot more light to your home and will allow you to improve how
well you can see when you are working on a project. One of the reasons that so many people love floor
lamps is their heavy base. Thanks to this large and heavy base, you don’t have to worry very much about
the lamp being knocked down or pulled over, which is great if you have rambunctious children or pets in
your home. Another great reason to consider a floor lamp is that you can tuck them behind furniture in
your living space and still get the additional light that you need without having to devote space on a
table to a lamp.
