Introduction
In this session you will be shown how to create a <Virtual Environment> project and how
to create basic room shapes using ModelIT, IES’s building modelling tool. At the end of
the session you will use the skills learned to create a simple building.
The trainer will show you how to perform various functions as shown in the following
pages, and images are included to assist you in following the trainer as the session
proceeds, and to act as a memory jogger after the session.
For more detailed help you can use the Help menu within the specific IES application,
and also you can refer to the product manuals installed with the IES software.
In Session B you will be shown how to create a simple building. You will see how to add
glazing, modify the existing rooms and set the site orientation; along with other functions
required creating your building geometry.

Creating/opening a project
Before you begin Modelling it is advisable to set your GRID size. At this point you can
also set your LOCK settings to assist you when creating rooms.

Creating basic shapes
The most commonly utilised shape tools are the Draw extruded shape and the Draw
Prism tools.
When you click on any shape tool the shape settings dialogue box will appear allowing
you to set the:
o Plane
o Height/Depth
o Number of segments (if applicable)

Other Basic shapes that you can create are:
o Draw Pyramid
o Draw Sphere
o Draw Hemisphere
o Draw Cylinder

When you want to Edit more than one room, select the first room and then hold control
to select further rooms.

Delete/erase
You can use the bin/trash can to delete selected rooms or the delete key on your
keyboard.
Other tools
Generate Roofs
You can create a basic roof above selected rooms using this tool.

Attaching/moving a DXF drawing file

Once you have attached the DXF file into the model space in the <Virtual Environment>
you can use the Move DXF file tool to reposition it if required.

Connect spaces
Select one of the rooms that you want to connect, click on the connect space tool and
the following dialogue box will appear.
Then click the rooms that you want to connect to (holding control to select more than
one)
Finally, select whether you want to retain or remove the partitions between the
connecting volumes and click connect.
