Departmental Contract for Teacher Candidates: Health & Physical Education


The faculty of the Health and Physical Education program is dedicated to the development and success of each of our
Teacher Candidates. In an effort to help you progress through the program as efficiently as possible, it is important for
each student to understand the expectations, dispositions, and benchmarks standards of our program.
College of Education Benchmark Standards: Details can be found in the student program guide, below highlights a few
of the key Transition Point standards. All standards MUST be met in order for a student to move forward in their program
and there are NO EXCEPTIONS to any of these-they are now STATE REQUIREMENTS. It is the student’s
responsibility to become familiar with the details of each benchmark standard. The student will be provided access to the
complete program guide.
Transition Point: Initials
1. NJDOE Background Clearance submitted to TK20 by May 1 for the Fall semester and December 1 for the
Spring Semester JB

2. Praxis - Core Academic Skills for Educators test (Reading 156, Writing 162, Math 150) on file in COE by
December 1st to be admitted in the upcoming Spring semester or April 1 st for upcoming Fall semester to be JB

admitted into Clinical Experience.
3. Praxis II (Health & Physical Education Content Knowledge – Code 5857): Passing scores of 160 on file in JB

COE by December 1st to be admitted in the upcoming Spring semester or April 1 st for upcoming Fall semester to

4. GPA: Overall GPA of a 3.0 and Professional GPA of 3.0 or higher is required in order to enter field
experiences. ANY value below 3.0 will not be considered and cannot be appealed.

5. Grades: NO student may have a grade less than C- or an Incomplete in their professional courses at the time of
application for field experiences.
Academic Integrity Policy: It is REQUIRED for ALL Teacher Candidates to thoroughly read, understand and follow the
University’s Academic Integrity Policy. It is not an excuse to say: “I did not know”. A more detailed description can
be found on pages 4-6 of this handbook, and in HES/HPE Course Syllabi, and the full policy can be accessed from the
Provost’s web site at this address, (All Academic Policies), from which this checklist is taken. The following is only a

1. Cheating: is an act of deception by which a person misrepresents his or her mastery of material on a test or
other academic exercise. Examples of cheating include but are not limited to:
a. Copying from another person’s work or allowing another person to copy your work.

2. Plagiarism: Plagiarism occurs when a person represents someone else’s words, ideas, phrases, sentences, or
data as one’s own work. Examples of plagiarism include but are not limited to:
a. Quoting, paraphrasing or borrowing syntax of another’s words without acknowledging the source. JB

b. Using another’s ideas, opinions or theories even if they have been completely paraphrased in one’s
