Richard D. McCormick MD (via John Simpson, media representative at the Dr. Rich McCormick For
Congress campaign)

Dear Dr. McCormick:

I’d appreciate your answers to the following questions for an item I’m reporting on my blog.

Of immediate concern is question 2) which -- if the information you provided to a national news reporter is
accurate -- may constitute a public health risk, so I'm copying GA Department of Public Health
Commissioner Dr. Kathleen Toomey.

1) You’ve been criticized by your opponent for your advocacy of treating COVID-19 patients with
hydroxychloroquine. Do you still recommend that treatment?

2) Via your May 27, 2020 interview with reporter Stephanie Myers of the One America News Network,
Doctor discusses fight against COVID-19 & GOP congressional race in Georgia:

SM: Hydroxychloroquine continues to be a trending topic as numerous doctors report seeing

success treating COVID-19 patients with the drug. One of those doctors is Dr. Richard McCormick,
an emergency room physician in Georgia who’s also running for the Peach State’s 7th Congressional
District. He joins us now...As a doctor yourself, what are some cases where you’ve seen
hydroxychloroquine treat patients with coronavirus?

RM: So one of our standards is when we admit a patient, and that means they’re sick enough to be
treated in the hospital, is we use hydroxychloroquine as one of our standard
treatments...Remember this is a novel virus.

According to your LinkedIn, you work at Northside Hospital and Gwinnett Medical Center. On June 13, a
couple weeks after the OANN interview, Katherine Watkins, who handles media relations for both hospitals
wrote me that neither hospital treats COVID-19 patients with hydroxychloroquine.

Therefore, what's the name of the hospital (or hospitals) where you’ve worked that treated COVID-19
patients with hydroxychloroquine?

3) You’ve been endorsed as a “TRUE REFORMER” by NumbersUSA, because you answered “yes” to the 12
questions on this Numbers USA survey.

NumbersUSA is an anti-immigration group which, according to this well-cited Wikipedia entry, the
Southern Poverty Law Center considers to be one of the core nativist organizations created by white
nationalist John Tanton to advance his views.

Any comment or concern regarding the endorsement?

4) Via I am about people: Q&A with Dr Rich McCormick, Republican candidate for Georgia’s 7th
Congressional District by Veena Rao, NRI Pulse, October 3, 2020 (emphasis added):

RM: I really want to see the Indian community succeed because I think they are ideal citizens, ideal
Americans, and they come here with great intent. And they do exactly what they come here for
which is succeed. And they integrate in a great way because they keep their community intact. They
also are very integrated with American culture, and American society. Business wise, they have
great friendships and they don’t just keep to themselves.

Which immigrant communities were you referring to that “just keep to themselves”? Also, in your opinion
are there immigrant communities that don’t make “ideal Americans”? If so, which ones?
RM: I may be a white guy, but I’m also a Morehouse man. I taught at Morehouse College for four
years as an associate professor. I went to Morehouse School of Medicine for four years and the same
year that President Obama was elected President of the United States, I was elected student body
president…

Have any of your Morehouse alumni physicians or your former professors endorsed your candidacy? If so,
who are they?

5) According to your campaign website, “Rich is wholly invested in supporting his family.” However, eight
years ago your first wife took you to court and successfully compelled you to pay a greater share of child
support and to gain more access to her/your children. Why was it necessary for her to seek redress using
the legal system?

6) Re: this September 6, 2007 post on your Facebook page, what’s the source of this photo and would you
please elaborate re: the posted comments? Also would you please provide reasons why LGBTQ voters and
supporters of that community’s civil rights should vote for you?
Thanks for your time/consideration and I look forward to your answers, preferably before this weekend,
particularly an answer to my question 2) so I may know how to proceed. If you need more time, please
advise.

Questions for me? Just ask.

Sincerely,

Peter M. Heimlich
