Booklet
Year 9 Geography; Term 2
Name:
Welcome to Term 2 Geography. As you will all be aware, this term will look
very different to our past school experiences. This will be a challenging
experience, but we are here to support you in your learning through this
difficult time.
This booklet is accompanied by a series of PowerPoints, these will provide you
with the information needed to complete the tasks.
As you go through the PowerPoints, there will be tasks in every lesson. Do
these tasks in a workbook or word document before you complete the lesson
task in this booklet.

For every lesson you will need: The lesson PowerPoint (These are named in
sequence), this booklet, and a separate document or book to complete the
activity tasks. There will be some other materials through the PowerPoints,
there will be instructions with them as you go.
Week 1: What is
globalisation?
- Before completing the task, go through the Lesson 1 PowerPoint slides and
complete the activity tasks in your book/document.

Task Instructions: Write a detailed description explaining your understanding

of globalisation (4-5 SENTENCES).
Week 2: Global Trade
Task Instructions: On slide 9 of the Lesson 2 PowerPoint, you will find the
instructions for 3 different tasks, Bronze, Silver, and Gold. Choose one which
you think suits your current understanding. Complete your answers below.

Remember- there are three different tasks, if you choose one and it’s too easy,
lets work on the next task. If you choose one and it’s a little too challenging-
that’s okay! Complete the task before it, then we can work on getting ready for
the next task.
Week 3: Globalisation and
You
Task instructions: In this task, you will fill out the table below, showing where
things you own were made. There are two versions of the task, depending on if
you have internet access.

With Internet: List 10 things that you own in the ‘product column’, Research
where they are made, record where each item is made in the ‘country column’.

Without Internet: Pick any items you own that have a tag on them (Clothing,
bags, pencil cases etc.). Write what type of product it is in the ‘product
column’, look on the tag where the item is made, record where each item is
made in the ‘country column’.

Product Country

Write a small paragraph analysing your table above. The instructions for this
are on slide 7 of week 3.
Week 3 (Part 2)
Today, we have thought about how we fit into the globalised world as
individuals. For this task, you need to write your own ‘globalisation story’.
Refer to the example and instructions on the slideshow. Think about your daily
routines, and the items you have listed above. You should be aiming for
roughly 200 words for this task.
Week 4: Globalisation and the Environment
This week we have looked at the environmental impacts of globalisation. For
this part of the assessment, there are two options; choose one and complete it
on the next page in this booklet.

Option 1 instructions:
1. In your resource booklet, there are a selection of 15 facts about
environmental issues, you will need this.
2. Read through the facts, choose 3-5 that you think are interesting, surprising,
or important.
3. For each of the facts you have chosen, answer three questions;
- Why did you choose this fact? (Was it interesting, do you think this is a big
issue, did this surprise you?’).
- Of the different types of pollution we have learnt about today, which type is
this fact? (There may be more than one!)
- How has globalisation impacted this problem?

Option 2 instructions:
1. In your resource package, there are a selection of photographs which show
environmental issues, you will need this unless you have internet access, in
which case you can find your own photographs from the internet.
2. Choose 5 photographs to form a ‘photo essay’.
3. Write two short paragraphs explaining;
- The environmental issues shown in the photographs.
- How you think globalisation impacts or causes these issues.
Week 5: Your ecological footprint
This week, we have started learning about ecological footprints. We have
explored the ideas of countries, cities, households, and our own ecological
footprints. This final part of the booklet is personal to you, and will show you
your own ecological footprint. As you think about your lifestyle and ecological
footprint, think back to the past weeks’ information about globalisation. Try to
think about how globalisation impacts your life, and your ecological footprint.
Go through the questions below, referring to the slideshow presentation for
guidance.

1. Calculate your ecological footprint. If you have internet access, do this

through this link https://www.footprintcalculator.org/.

If you do not have internet access, use the worksheet in the resource folder.

If everyone lived like you, how many earths would we need?

2. Are you surprised by your result? If so why? If not why not?

3. Think of some changes you could make in your life, to reduce your ecological
footprint. Record these changes below.

3 (Go for Gold): Test your ecological footprint again, but using the changes
you listed above.

After these changes, if everyone lived like me we would need _______

earths.
4. Think about the changes you’ve listed above and how they would change
or impact your life. List the positive and negative impacts of making these
changes.

You can present this in paragraph form of 4-5 sentences, as a table, or as a

Venn diagram.
Congratulations!
Once you have finished the tasks from weeks 1-5, you have completed your
assessment!
