1.1 Background of the PSC Building Design

PSC has begun the construction of its central office building at Kamalpokhari, Kathmandu, Nepal. The buidling is
considered to be state of the art hosing most of its Kathmandu based staff with modern facilities and
equipments.

The PSC Building Construction site is located close to the Kamalpokhari.

The design of the proposed PSC building is unique for any government public buildings in Nepal. It is a six
storied reinfoced cement concrete frame structure designed for seismic shaking in a high earthquake risk
setting with double basement. The building will be the government owned public building in Nepal. Its design
involves a bio-climatic approach for tall buildings an approach used in a few private and commercial buidings
built in the last few years in Nepal.

The building is targeted to function as a modern office building. It is designed with sensitivity towards
environmental issues, uses natural lighting and natural ventilation. It also takes advantage of its existing
environment by incorporating it into the function of the building.
