Mark Design

For the final project, my ultimate goal is to have a mark that radiates my personality,

creativity, and personal style. My style in design can range in all sorts of stylizations while

considering criteria I need to meet for an assignment or a customer. Yet I still have a default

approach that I tend to take when it comes to my own personal work. Although I may be seen as

a graphic design artist, a physical pen and paper will always have a special place in my heart. I

absolutely adore when there is a “best of both worlds” situation in digital pieces; where the

computer adds certain elements that a hand cannot, but yet there is still a sense of it being

handmade.

With that being in mind, I tend to completely hand draw my work completely, or atleast

large elements of it, then scan it into the computer. I usually need to edit profusely for it to be

more prominent digitally, but I still make sure to keep certain characteristics to where it still

gives off the authenticity of a physical sketch. My work is typically pretty illustrative. I also like

to think outside of the box for ideas, so therefore I won’t just make a piece that is aesthetically

pleasing, but also has a deeper meaning.

That is exactly the route I took when coming up with a mark. Originally, I had an idea for

a cutesy little theme called Eye Candy, since my work tends to be oriented to be eye-catching. I

may continue with that idea down the road, but for our final project I wanted something a little

more personal. So ultimately I took inspiration from something I call my “creative blind to the

world” moments. To shortly explain, I frequently get in these funks where if I am working on an

art piece that I’m really into, I forget to eat or sleep, hence the whole “blind to the world” part. I

thought it would be interesting to visually depict this by doing something with the eyes. Vindire

is the latin phrase for “too see”, which I thought was a more subliminal way of saying visual. My

first design digs into my personal life even deeper. As you can see, there is a spray can mark

over the eyes, which was purposely done because my first dive into the art industry was doing

street art when I was a child.
