1. How are plays different from movies or books?

Plays are different from movies because this was seen personally where you can see
everything what is going on the stage while in the movie, you can only see what is focused by
the camera. Plays are also different from books because in plays, there is a specific person where
he/she is the portrayer of that character and all of the sceneries were seen in actual happenings.
In books, you are just using your imagination to portray someone in the character and our mind
is just creating imaginary events depending on what scene is happening on the story. Plays are
showing the live actors and actresses and true actions are seen personally. Another difference of
play from the movie is that play is only watched in the specific time of performance, while in
movie, you can watch it over and over again because it was recorded on tape. In another
comparison with the books, plays have a specific time frame depending on the story like 1 hour
or 3 or 4 hours whereas the time frame for a book is unlimited. For me, plays are better than
books or movies because in making a play, it really need an extraordinary effort to rehearse
because the actors and actresses here will only perform once. It doesn’t have a retake and the
scripts must be perfectly memorized. The real talents were seen here when it comes to acting,
singing, dancing, and many more.
2. How do people connect through theatre?
People connect through theatre in a way of getting together and understanding each other
because they have same interests or hobbies. When it comes to the stage, the actors, actresses,
props men, and everyone behind the stage interact with each other because this is the way to
make their play successful. Through exchanging of conversation and understanding every signals
or movements, they began to know what to do next. All of those who are working in this play are
having good time because they are doing their passion and it connects them to other people that
leads them to have new friends or new family. When it comes to the front of the stage, all of the
actors and actresses are seeing people silently watching and clapping after every scenery. The
viewers of this play also connect with each other and to those who they are watching. The
audience are watching the play because they want to be entertained, to get some information, to
make this pass time, or to learn some new lesson. They are connecting to each other because they
all are into that story. They might also have same interest or hobbies that is why they are in that
theater. Through theatre, it makes people to bond with each other by simply watching it together.
The family is having a good time, the couples are making their best memories, and every
individual is making their time with worth as they connect their selves to the story. Theatre
connects people and it is really a good thing because it brings them emotions and feeling they
won’t ever forget. The happiness, the sadness, the anger, the curiosity, and every feeling that
theater wants to bring will make people leave with a time that is worth-spending for.
3. How does theater reflect and influence society?
Theater reflect and influence society through giving them a memorable time with lessons
they will treasure in their lifetime. Theater makes everyone behind the play let their talents shine
and be exposed. It influenced them to do their passion and just love and enhance their skills in
acting, dancing, or singing. In the other hand, theater makes the audience have their
unforgettable moments while watching plays. It helps them to reflect their selves to every
characters and scene they are seeing. It inspires them to have a life they admired in the play and
it also brings them hope that with perseverance and good mindset, nothing is impossible.
According to the International College of Musical Theater (2020), “The performing arts
help society as a whole in self-knowledge and understanding. Theatre and the performing arts
teach society about itself, hoping to point out the attitudes and mindsets of current society. It can
be a tool used to educate people about their current conditions.” It means that this theater is
really a big help to every individuals. Everything we are seeing in the stage is the model to make
our lives meaningful and worth-living. It educates us to apply the lessons we are learning in
theater to our real life. It enlightens us that everything that happens in our life have a reason. In
every struggles we watched in the theater, there is always a happy ending, sad, or a tragic one.
The important thing here is that it depends on us on how we will cope and successfully pass
every challenges that comes to our life. It depends on how we will make ourselves be affected on
everything that happens to us. It might either lead us to a stronger and better version of us or into
a worse and weaker one. Every play we are going to watch has always a message so we must
understand and reflect to it so we can go home with a new hope and a better mindset.
