Vibration stability can be improved by installing baffle plates, as shown
in Fig. 7.35, which prevent flow of the surface layer [61]. If such plates are installed the unstable region becomes smaller, as shown in Fig. 7.36 [62], because the fluid flow is prevented. The effect of the baffle plates becomes more pronounced as the amount of contained fluid is increased. Therefore, if the ratio b/a is made small (see Fig. 7.35) the unstable vibration domain may disappear altogether. This has been verified experimentally.
