Cabonne Council Awards for Australia
Day 2011 were very popular choices.
Citizen of the Year was teacher Nick
Berry who finished at Canowindra High
last year and started this year at Blayney
High. Teiya Thornberry Canowindra High
student was Young Citizen of the Year,
and Community Group of the Year
winner was Little Athletics Inc with the
award accepted by President, Jayson
Clout.
Glenn Wheeler, Cabonne’s celebrity
Ambassador was impressed by the
warmth and friendliness of Canowindra
and the beauty of our town and Shire.
Although the flag couldn’t be raised, nor
the sausages sizzled, everyone had fun,
especially the kids, thanks to the efforts

ON YOUR BIKE
Twenty people attended the meeting on
Monday evening that was organised to
find people interested in forming a bike
riding group. People of all ages and
riding levels turned up to contribute
Chaired by Geoff Yeo and Corey Knight,
the main topics discussed were routes,
dates and times of rides.
It was decided that for the next four
weeks or so, the group will meet
Wednesday evenings at 6.30pm and
Sunday mornings at 7am for a 60 minute
social ride, starting and finishing at Finns
Store. This will give all riders an indication
of the direction of the group as a whole,
and allow various riders to team up with
riders of similar capabilities.
For the first few weeks the route will most
likely be out on Longs Corner Road,
towards Toms Waterhole, as this road is
quiet and only has small hills. Jan Kerr of
Toms Waterhole Winery has kindly
offered cold water for anyone who
makes it that far!
The format will be a simply ride one way
for 30 minutes then riders turn around
for the home leg. Theoretically no matter
the speed or level the rider, all should hit
home around the same time.
Remember to bring some water for the
ride and some for after, and an esky will
be provided at Finns to keep the home
drinks cool.
Anyone who wishes to ride on either
days, please just turn up with your bike,
helmet, water and motivation. Although
there are some experienced hard core
riders, there are some tail enders who will
be taking it very easy and welcome oth-
ers to join.
Future plans include bike evaluations to
find out what bike would best suit your
needs; and finding routes that match rid-
ers abilities and goals.

COMMIT FUNDS TO DISABILITY SERVICES
Independent Member for Dubbo Dawn
Fardell, has called on the National Party
candidate to stop misleading the public
with wrong and alarmist claims which
have nothing to do with helping people
and everything to do with scoring
political points.
In his latest scaremongering, the National
Party's candidate wrongly claimed people
with disabilities and their carers were at
breaking point because they were forced
into a "one size fits all" approach from
the Department of Disability Service.
"I'm not here to defend the Government,
but the fact is, it announced less than
three months ago, a further $2 billion
investment in disability services over the
next five years for the second phase of
the Stronger Together 2006-2016
initiative, delivering individual programs
to those who choose to take them up. It
is their choice.
"The first five years of the program has
already injected $1.3 billion in growth
funding to the disability sector,
increasing disability services capacity by
an estimated 47,000 places over the next
five years.
"This funding is in addition to the $2.02
billion it will cost to continue to fund the
expansion of disability services already
provided under the first five years of the
program.
"Rather than make disability services a
political football, the National Party
would help these people more by
pledging to support ongoing funding of
the 'Stronger Together" program,"
Ms Fardell said.

Sanity has finally prevailed with the NSW
Government caving in to the people's
demand for some relief on electricity
power price hikes, but Parliament should
still be recalled for a "full and frank"
debate on the issue so the public knows
where each politician stands on the issue
of privatisation before the State election.
Independent Member for Dubbo, Dawn
Fardell, welcomed Government's pledge
to axe electricity bill rises of $100, which
were planned this year for the
Government's solar bonus scheme.
"The Premier also indicated she will
announce an electricity bill rebate for
households earning less than $150,000 a
year, which will go a long way towards
providing some relief, but this situation
should never have got so out of control,"
Ms Fardell said.
"This backdown cannot be used as a
carrot to forget the inquiry – we still
need to find out what the Directors
know and we don't.
"Also, Parliament should be recalled to
debate the issue and allow each
incumbent to declare their stand on
privatisation so the people can have
their say on March 26th," Ms Fardell said.
Ms Fardell, who has long campaigned
against privatisation and crippling power
price hikes, presented a petition to
Parliament last year of more than 7500
signatures calling for the increases to be
scrapped.
"The Government's backdown shows
people power still works, and now we
need to turn that attention to the
Coalition to ensure it declares its policies
before the election."
