TF - I Technology Operations and Concepts Narrative

During EDTC 6300, we gained experience in project management explored ways to

implement technology along with proposed plans and budgets for creating or enhancing

technology within schools and organizations. ISTE Technology Facilitation Standard – I focuses

on Technology Operations and Concepts:

Educational technology facilitators demonstrate an in-depth understanding of technology

operations and concepts. Educational technology facilitators:
A. Demonstrate knowledge, skills, and understanding of concepts related to
technology (as described in the ISTE National Educational Technology Standards
for Teachers). Candidates:

1. assist teachers in the ongoing development of knowledge, skills, and

understanding of technology systems, resources, and services that are
aligned with district and state technology plans.
2. provide assistance to teachers in identifying technology systems,
resources, and services to meet specific learning needs.

B. Demonstrate continual growth in technology knowledge and skills to stay

abreast of current and emerging technologies. Candidates:

1. Model appropriate strategies essential to continued growth and

development of the understanding of technology operations and concepts
(ISTE, 2001).

Much has changed since the course in 2017. At the time, I was living in Japan and

working at in international school, Kinder Kids International School, with the primary goal being

to equip classrooms with the tools necessary to facilitate video conferencing during craft and

cooking lessons with the students in Japan, Canada, and Hawaii. In 2018 I began my journey at

Full Sail University as a Regional Outreach Representative on the High School Outreach team.
Technology remained a large part of this position as I visited classrooms throughout North

Florida and South Georgia to facilitate various technology-driven workshops. Not only did these

workshops assist the students in uncovering postsecondary options for them, it provided the

teachers with resources and current technology to embed in their course curriculum.

I have taken on many roles at Full Sail in the two-year span. As COVID-19 emerged

worldwide, it drastically changed the way many organizations, especially schools, operated.

Video conferencing became the new normal for all departments to communicate within the

school. We transitioned from GoToMeeting to Zoom seamlessly. Workshops that were originally

done in-person on a high school campus were modified to fit the virtual landscape as to meet the

needs of students and teachers. As a result of the shift toward virtual learning, parents also

became a new market as they were home with their students. Continuing Education conferences

that would ordinarily take place on campus also migrated online. I was able to develop my

leadership skills through the use of technology as I hosted weekly continuing education sessions

for the Summer Learn and Grow Conference for faculty and staff. With this, I interacted with

more than 50 Full Sail employees that I ordinarily wouldn’t have had the opportunity to engage

with in my everyday role.

Additionally, because I have remained committed to remaining current with emerging

technologies, I have immersed myself fully into managing our social media channels within our

Digital Communications Department since May. I’ve gained experience in the content

management world through Social Studio and discovered new ways to use Salesforce. I’ve

learned the backend of Facebook and YouTube moderation for live streams and engaging in

meaningful conversations.
As I move into my new position as Associate Course Director for Creative Presentation,

it is expected that my relationship with technology will continue to grow and develop. I will be

working with students from all over the world, teaching them the very first course every student

must take at Full Sail University prior to beginning their degree-specific coursework. I will gain

exposure to our learning management system, Full Sail One, as well as technology and resources

essential to effectively teaching, grading, and providing feedback at the university level.
