Before we get started, let’s relax a little. . . . . . . . . . . . .Let’s do some hand workouts!!!!!
1. Hold your hands up so that you can see the back of them. Stretch them open as far as you can now close them! Open
– Close , Open – Close, Open – Close, Open – Close, Open – Close
2. Tap the table!!!! Hover both hands over the table. Tap on the table one finger at a time without moving the others.
Tap 4 times each. Thumbs (finger number 1), Pointing finger (finger number 2), Middle finger (finger number 3), Ring
finger (finger number 4) and then Pinky (finger number 5). (Remember when one finger goes down, the others stay in
the air – KEEP TRYING!!!)
The first thing you need to know about playing the piano is the Musical Alphabet!
A – B – C – D – E – F – G that’s it! Whew! Was that hard or what?
Basically the Piano and all music is just these 7 letters over and over again!!!
The hard part is putting these notes together and playing different combinations of these notes.
Are you up for the challenge? Check Yes or No If you checked Yes Move on to the next page!
If you checked No, take a break and try the Hand Workouts again!!! Then maybe you’ll be
ready to move on. If not, try another instrument. . . recorder, xylophone, drums, guitar, orchestra
instruments, or voice!!!!
You can practice during the commercials while watching TV or 35 minute a day when you get up or getting
ready for bed, dinner, or bath time. Make time to Practice!!!
Practice means to play the lesson over and over again until you can play it right without looking at the paper.
Then once you can do that you still play it over and over.
So that means pay attention to how it sounds when your teacher is with you so you will hear it
when you mess up by yourself and you can fix it!!!! The worst thing you can ever do is practice the
wrong thing!!!!!
On the piano let’s plat the black keys!!!! Play only the set of 2! Play all sets from Letf (LOW) to Right(High)!
(10times each) Then do the same with the set of 3. (10 times each)
Now play the sets of 3 from low to high using finger numbers 4, 3 and 2 in the left hand (ring, middle, pointer)
and finger numbers 2, 3 and 4 in the right (pointer, middle, and ring).
Alternate hands : Left – Right – Left – Right . . . (10 times each)
Now in between the set of 2 you will find a white key, the letter D.
Mr. Demby says it is the cream of the Oreo cookie!
This is D on the Staff. Staff – 5 lines and 4 space to write music. All music is written on the staff.

Critical Thinking –
