Assignment no. 2 (Individual)

I. Interview

The teacher leader that I interviewed was Miss Diana Fe Castillo, she is currently the
faculty of one of my subject which is Purposive Communication. Miss Castillo said that she was
the head of student affairs back then. She was assigned to oversee the discipline of the
students through their class absences, withdrawals by implementing policies and she was
tasked to prepare for every activity that will going to happen in school. She added that at Far
Eastern University being a faculty was considered also being a leader because it still managing
students. She said that having a leadership role takes a lot of courage but it develops her as an
individual.

Being a faculty member also faces challenges like a leader roles, she said. There were
hardships like having a load of different students. Having many students challenges her
flexibility on how to manage different individuals with different attitudes. With that, she finds
difficult to interact with them. Another thing that challenged her is how she will be able to handle
a class, what are the ways and styles that she will be using to adjust and immerse herself to her
students. Even Miss Diane faces these challenges she remains positive and she thinks of a
solution to overcome all of these.

Miss Castillo shared her ways on how she overcome the challenges she were facing,
she said that getting to know the students is one of the effective solution on how she will adjust
to the different attributes of every students she were handling. Second, is being immersed with
her students because it allows her to gain the students trust to her. Trusting her to manage the
class effectively and give them the best leadership role as a teacher as she can. With that she
were able to handle a class in organize and in a positive environment.
II. REFLECTION PAPER

REALIZATIONS & NEW LEARNINGS ON LEADERSHIP ROLE

"Trust is the confidence born of the character and competence of a person or an organization."
-STEPHEN R. COVEY

When we say leadership, we know that it is the action of leading someone or leading a
group and even handling an organization. Leadership is also how a person, or the leader
manage his or her subordinates to accomplish a mission and to reach a certain goal. Little do
we know that this leadership can also very beneficial for the individual itself. It is because
leadership can enhance the different abilities and skills of every one. It also helps to make
socialization to be easier through the relationship that will be created with the leader and its
people. It creates trust among them to make their bond to be stronger and it can lead them for
the success of their organization. It simply means that leadership plays a significant role for the
individual and for an organization.

I realize that leadership role is first to inspire trust. Being a leader or every member of
the organization has the trust to each other. Just like Miss Castillo said to the interview it is
important that her students have a trust on her. Second is to create vision. Having a vision
within a leadership role will help the team to direct where they were going and how to achieve
going there. Without it, the team will have difficulties of getting the real essence of their
organization. Third is to execute strategy. Unleashing ways and style just like Miss Castillo did
to overcome her challenges as a leader it will be helpful enough especially for the leader to
approach his people and to creates a good environment in the work place. Last is to have
potential because it develops the ability of the team to become and do better for the future.

According to Kouzes and Porner (1990) leadership is said to be successful when its
meet the expectation of the employees. Therefore, I learned that leadership is a work of both
parties the leader and the followers. It is because the followers are expecting from the leaders
ability. In short, they have given their trust to the leader. The leader itself will also comply to the
expectations of his follower. A success of the leadership all depends to the trust that they have
within each other. It builds up their confidence and competency to face challenges and
responsibilities that might come through their way as they reach their goal.
