NEW DELHI: All-new Audi Q2 is on the doorstep of the Indian auto market
and will definitely become one of the most important offering by the
automaker here. The Q2, upon its arrival, will be the cheapest Audi in the
country.

In terms of price, the Audi Q2 will be pitted against the Mercedes-Benz

GLA, Volvo XC40 R-Design, and the BMW X1 in the Indian market.

After the Covid crisis wrecked the Indian auto market, automakers have been preferring to launch cars in the Rs 10 lakh – Rs 30
lakh segment to soften the blow and that has been working out pretty well. Luxury carmakers, however, haven’t followed any
prescription, mostly relying on brand shaping products. North of Rs 1.5 crore, Audi India introduced the RS Q8 and the RS7
since the lockdown.

The Audi Q2 could be the SUV that brings volume for the German automaker this year. With an expected price tag of around
Rs 32 lakh - 37 lakh (ex-showroom), the Q2 is an attractive festive buy when the Indian audience is finally ready to splurge after
a gloomy phase.

Audi India is not just a brand but more of a status symbol and a style statement in India. With exclusively premium and luxury
offerings, the German automaker has earned its reputation for having a niche target audience, according to a top company
official.

But now, Audi in some ways seems to be reaching out to the masses instead of its loyal elite customer base. Audi A3, which
was previously the cheapest Audi in India (starting at Rs 29 lakh) was secretly pulled off the market in April this year. The fact
that we have another affordable option in less than 6 months, says a lot about the automaker’s revised strategy.

Audi Q2 is a good buy because of two obvious reasons. One of them being that the Audi tag was never expected to be this
cheaper, and the Q2 is definitely way ahead of A3 if the comparison ever arises. Secondly, this is also the most-accessible
German-engineered premium SUV in India. Co-incidentally, Q2 arrives a day after the Audi’s compatriot BMW brings in 2 Series
Gran Coupe, which would be another entry-level premium offering.

The Audi Q2 is definitely affordable, but by no means does that mean that Audi cut down on the premium features or the
performance it generally offers. The Audi Q2 is expected to be offered in 3 petrol and 2 diesel variants. The petrol variants will
be powered by a 1498cc, TFSI engine which will produce 150 PS of power and 250 Nm of torque. The petrol engine will be
available with a 6-speed MT or 7-speed S tronic transmission. The diesel variants come with a 1968cc, 4-cylinder engine that
churns out 150 PS of power and 265 Nm of torque. The diesel engine gets the Quattro all-wheel drive and S-tronic
transmission.

optional ambient lighting, Audi Virtual Cockpit with 12.3-inch MMI navigation, and an 8.3-inch display. The SUV is also offered
with a standard Audi pre-sense front system and 3 optional assist packages-drive, safety, and park.

All in all, Audi Q2 is a good urban SUV that won't fail to perform well on long journeys as well. The Q2 could also be key to
Audi India’s recovery after the Covid crisis. It would be interesting to see how the SUV performs especially during the festive
season among much cheaper rivals.
