Just arrived home a few days ago Charlotte received a visit

from Lady Susan with an invitation to spend the summer

months in London. She knew of Sidney Parker's engagement

to Eliza Campion ... and she wanted to encourage Charlotte.

The friendship of an honest man was a rarity in those days,

and Lady Susan did not want to lose her. But her intention

was to prepare Charlotte for high society. First of all,

through her countless acquaintances, she failed in several

plans to organize the wedding for Eliza Campion: the

wedding salons were busy , the wedding dress could not be

ready in at least two months, the flowers from Holland

came only over three ... ..no one realized where Lady Susan

had intervened .... not even Eliza Campion who was very

pleased with these preparations. Lady Susan acted on two

levels: one to delay the wedding and the other to find

financing solutions for Sanditon and Sidney Parker.
