Introduction

Written In The Stars

One of my favorite aspects of Werewolf the Apocalypse has always been the Garou’s unique
cosmology. I loved that my werewolf characters saw the world so differently that they literally had their
own way of tracking time throughout the year. The many tribal seasonal rites helped further flesh out
that unique perspective as they turned the wheel of the year and tracked the seasons.
Tribal seasonal rites and Garou cosmology add a wonderful, flavorful depth to the game. But
tracking the lunar year on a standard calendar can be difficult. This resource exists to allow players and
storytellers to be able to readily show the Garou lunar year without need for complicated research,
allowing you to focus on your game instead of figuring out how to use a star chart.
Included for each lunar month, you’ll find a brief list of attributes corresponding to that month’s
patron Celestine, moon phases for the month, timing of astronomical events, and dates for when to
perform each of the tribal seasonal rites. Enjoy!

The Garou Lunar Calendar Basics
Instead of using the standard Gregorian calendar, Garou track the progression of time in
terms of lunar cycles, beginning each new month on the full moon. This gives them shorter months,
and the Garou calendar year will sometimes have 13 months instead of the usual 12. The tabletop
supplement Rage Across the Heavens gives us a wealth of information about the Garou lunar
year and Garou astrology that can be mined for more in-depth insight on the Celestial Incarnae and
their respective astrological signs.

A few highlights:

~The Garou Lunar Year begins on the first full moon following the Spring Equinox. This means
that the Garou Lunar Year will usually begin in late March or early April.

~Each Garou lunar calendar month is assigned a celestial patron – one of the Celetines that reside
within the Aetherial Realm. Celestines are the spiritual embodiment of each planetary body within
our solar system. Anyone familiar with astrology knows that planetary bodies play a major role in
determining the forces at work on a celestial scale and their influences. Each Garou lunar month is
named after the Celestine that watches over that month.

~Each Celestine also has a patron tribe and a patron auspice that it watches over.

The Garou Lunar Year for 2020-2021 is as follows:

What about the 13th Month?

Most years, the Garou calendar has 13 months, but it depends on when the last full moon of
the Garou lunar year falls. Typically, if the full moon in March falls before the Spring Equinox, then
that moon would be designated as the 13th lunar month (the month of Rorg). However, if the full
moon in March falls after the Spring Equinox, then it begins the next calendar year with the month
of Nerigal. As you might imagine, this fluctuation does little to help the mood of the Red Talons.
