Theme: Leading Change in Management Education – Leading Self,
Leading Others, Leading Change

A Brief Note on the Theme:

Management Education, with dynamic complexities of business, needs
to redefine itself in terms of not just functional areas, but also strategy
and leadership. To meet the market demand, leaders should confidently
motivate their teams to achieve optimum results. Management
education needs to re-design itself to distinguish management myth
from reality. Understanding the motivations of colleagues and
competitors, recognizing strengths and blind spots in oneself and others,
building emotional intelligence to communicate effectively, influencing
others from a position with or without authority, managing within
organizational hierarchies, and earning trust and building relationships
need to be the areas to be focused on when it comes to leading change
in management education to connect the dots.

Theme: Co-creating the Future

A Brief Note on the Theme:

The future of management education cannot be considered without
contemplating the future of work, the economy and market dynamics.
We can advance our theoretical and managerial understanding of
efficient and effective collaborative practices through innovation from a
co-creation perspective to connect the dots. In doing so, we can uncover
a portfolio of practices that facilitate resource integration and innovation
among management educators, regulatory bodies, corporate and other
stakeholders with the help of design professionals. Adapting technology
innovatively to create a greater presence in the market through open
courseware like MOOCs should be a practice that is adopted by all
business schools.

AIMS eNewsletter No.4 | Issue No.1 | Sep 2018

Globalization and the development of technology have brought both

challenges and opportunities to Management Education. The rising
demands of social and private enterprises act as strong catalysts that
maximize the real-world application of innovation. To connect these
dots, innovations in management education should address the practical
aspects of the required reforms which should include fine-tuning course
design in tandem with current industry trends, ensuring Learning
Outcomes based on innovative Content delivery and finally assessing
knowledge relevance to contemporary management standards.

Theme: Research Initiatives and Quality Benchmarks in
Management Education

A Brief Note on the Theme:

Quality initiatives are a continuous process to set necessary standards
needed for the management profession, industry, academia and society
at large. Both national and international accreditation criteria keep
changing with changing dimensions in management. Accreditation
bodies like AACSB, EFMD, ACBSP, SAQS, NBA, etc., create quality
benchmarks for various interventions in management education to bring
value proposition to all stakeholders. With changing business models
and practices in the industry, management education needs to
emphasise on industry based research and set a new norm to connect
these dots.

drastically altering the primary nature of work. The growth of automation

aided by technologies including robotics and Artificial Intelligence, Data
Science & Analytics brings the assurance of greater productivity,
increased efficiencies, safety, and convenience. On the flip side, such
technologies also raise difficult questions about the broader impact of
automation on careers, skills, and the nature of work itself. Taking
cognizance of such issues can help future business managers gear up
to meet the changing demands of work. Management Education needs
to adopt to changes in work places of the future and connect the dots.

While describing the term ‘Ethnography’ he said it is a highly sophisticated method to

natural way. The ethnographer should learn the language of the community, their
culture while diagnosing their internal intensions and requirements.

Management. He emphasized on the uses of ethnography in understanding others;
customers, stakeholders and other interested groups of the business. Prof Patnaik also
expressed the use of this powerful technique in analyzing different business models and
solving various research problems. Understanding the pulse of stakeholders is an
important aspect in brand creation and brand promotion, he added.

Prof Pattnaik highly appreciated the idea and way of celebrating the foundation day in
ASBM. He advised the budding managers to be humble learners by not rejecting the
other disciplines for the sake of prioritizing their own discipline.

Prof Patnaik was felicitated by the founder

auspicious occasion, welcome address was
delivered by Prof (Dr ) Kalyan Shankar

Bhavan's Centre for Communication and Management

Bhubaneswar

A Two-Day Workshop on Advanced Data Anaysis Using SPSS & AMOS at Bhavan’s
Centre For Communication And Management (BCCM)

BCCM organized a two-day Faculty Development Programme on “Advanced Data

Analysis Using SPSS & AMOS” on 20th and 21st July 2018 at its campus at Kharvel
Nagar, Bhubaneswar. The program was organized through joint collaboration of BCCM
and Gandhi Institute for Technology (GIFT), Bhubaneswar. Faculty Members and
Research Scholars of B-schools and Universities and Industry Professionals attended
the program.

Creation and dissemination of knowledge through research is an integral part of higher

education. Research is the systematic and objective process of gathering, recording
and analysing data for taking appropriate decisions. With the growing risks and
uncertainties, the business organizations are depending more on research findings for
taking timely valuable decisions. On the contrary, the field of research in social science
has not grown to its expected level. Dearth of quality research finding has always been
a handicap for growth and sustainability of business. Therefore, Universities and
Institutions offering higher education in management have, of late, realized the
importance of social science research and encouraging this field as a matter of policy at
national and international level.

Keeping this in view, the workshop was designed to explore the basic dimensions of
research and provided the participants with several hands on approaches, tools and
techniques to proceed with the research work.

The workshop was started with the Inaugural Session, chaired by Lt Col P K Sahu, Sr
Director, Finance & Administration, BCCM. He spoke about the role of BCCM in
disseminating knowledge and serving the society at large. Dr Sujata Mangaraj, Director
cum Dean Academics, BCCM welcomed the guests and presented an overview of the
program design. Er Patita Pabana Panda, Director, GIFT, in his Inaugural address
focused on making the students industry ready. The Guest of Honor, Mr Debabrata
Dash, Head (HR), Tata Steel Kalinga Nagar Project and Tata Growth Shop highlighted
the need for predictive research to meet the current needs of the Industry. Dr A K
Panigrahy, Professor, BCCM, proposed a formal vote of thanks.

The inaugural session was followed by four technical sessions, covering various topics
such as Research Process, Research Design, Measurement and Scaling, Statistical
Tools, Univariate and Multivariate Data Analysis, Regression Analysis, Exploratory
Factor Analysis, Validity and Reliability, AMOS, SPSS, Model Fit, Validity Measures,
SEM, Mediation Analysis including practical sessions.

The workshop concluded with a valedictory session. The session was chaired by Gen B
K Mahapatra, Chairman, BCCM. In his address he focused on lifelong learning for

faculty members in order to bring excellence in teaching and learning. He assured the
participants to have a networking of institutions for training teachers. Dr BidhuBhushan
Mishra, the esteemed Chief Guest emphasized on the use of technology and learning
resources for strengthening research.

Dr Sujata Mangaraj, Convenor of the workshop made an elaborate summing up of the

Industrial visit was carried out to FLEXI CAPS & POLYMERS PRIVATE LIMITED on
14th July, 2018 especially for semester five students. The main objective behind the
visit was to make students aware about how various activities related to production,
purchasing, store management and boilers section, are carried out in the company and
give them feel of Engineers as soon as they start their course. Three faculties and one
guest faculty Dr Kenneth W Miller - Professor, St Cloud State University Minnesota,
USA along with 45 students left for visit at 12 Noon and took about 30 minutes to cover
the distance. The company is located in Sanwer tehsil in Indore city. As soon as we
reached company we were guided by Mr Jai, Production Engineer, who took us to
administrative section where an orientation of company was given by heads of
production department about history and how company was established.

The conception of this philosophy is derived from the core objective of the company ‘To
Contribute to the Society’. Adhering to this philosophy, the Company balances its
business and manufacturing activities with its impact on the communities and people at
large. After introduction all students were headed by one manager of company who
helped them to understand how production is carried out in company and how company
reaches their customer. Maximum production in company is carried out by means of
machinery subdivide in various activities like inception of raw material, mixing process,
making jackets, covering the product and then converting it into finished goods. Finally
Finished goods are packed and are sealed where production batch number is
embossed for its future verification required.

We took almost two hour to see complete set of production which was followed by
questions of students. I appreciate staff member who guided students with each and
every question with detailed answers. It is rightly said that “see & kow’ is better than
‘read & learn’. Students have got real feel of company’s working after this visit. They got
a chance to transfer their theoretical knowledge to practical implication. This will even

The management education plays an essential role in today’s dynamic business

of management education has been increased many folds. Business Executives need
to update their skills due to rapid changes in the external environment. Consequent to
the increasingly complex nature of organizations and businesses, there is established
need for Business Schools to impart relevant, current, and cutting edge knowledge to
the students.

The external business environment is continuously changing and evolving. In order to

cope with the present and future challenges of the business world, both industry and
academia have to be at the cutting edge of business research and emerging trends. It is
particularly important for the Business Schools to take a more balanced approach and
offer business education curricula which contain a blend of diversified business areas.

The business environment is constantly evolving in the face of changing trends,

processes, complexities and people’s preferences. To keep pace with such a dynamic
environment, it is imperative that organizations undertake innovations not only in
products and services but also in processes and practices of business management.
Equally important is an emphasis on good governance and sound management
practices for survival and growth of business organizations.
