1.0 INTRODUCTION

Industrial Training (IT) is a compulsory requirement for students in certain programs at all levels of
higher education in Institutions of Higher Learning (IHL) aimed to strengthen the competencies
required. IT course provides students with learning opportunities in the real working environment.

IT exposes students to real-life experiences of the civil engineering works and get involved in Civil
Engineering projects before graduation. The student MUST complete at least eighteen (18) weeks of
IT within semester six (6) for the awarding of Diploma in Civil Engineering. The technical and non-
technical course outcomes that will be assessed and evaluated through the industrial training.

2.0 SCOPE OF IT
The scope of Industrial Training (IT) encompasses of the following activities:
a. Appreciation of client’s requirements
b. Attending site visits
c. Interpretation of construction drawings
d. Interpretation of contract specification and involvement in project management
e. Discussion with visiting lecturer
f. Preparation of report
Other activities relevant to the training, as directed by the supervisor that are appropriate for civil
engineering trainee can also be included.

3.0 COURSE OUTCOMES

At the end of this industrial training, students should be able to: -
CO1 : Apply appropriate techniques, and modern engineering or IT tools to civil engineering
problems, with an awareness of the limitations. (P3)

4.0 ASSESSMENT

The assessment of IT and the percentage of the domain skills acquired are distributed as follows:

 Industry supervisor : 50 % (P 40%, A 10%)

 Faculty supervisor : 15% (P 10%, A 5%)
 Report : 15% (C 5%, A 10%)
 Logbook : 10% (C 5%, A 5%)
 Colloquium : 10% (C 5%, A 5%)
TOTAL : 100%

From these distributions of an assessments, 50% psychomotor skill (face to face) must be evaluated
by Industry and Faculty supervisors. In view of the Covid-19 issue and the Movement Control Order
(MCO) continues until 28th April 2020, the evaluation of the psychomotor skills will be affected.

Therefore, to meet the ETAC requirements with at least 50% of the psychomotor skills to be
achieved, below are the plans that have been made to ensure that this requirement can be fulfilled:

1. Total IT period = 18 weeks

2. Total IT period (completed 24.2.2020 – 17.3.2020) = 3 weeks

3. 3. Total psychomotor skill need to achieve (minimum = 18 weeks x 50% x 5

50%) days/week

= 45 days

4. Total IT period/ psychomotor skill (face to face) = 3 weeks x 5 days

(completed 24.2.2020 – 17.3.2020)
= 15 days

5. Total IT period/ psychomotor skill (face to face) to be = 45 days – 15 days

completed
= 30 days

6. Students are allow to work from office or site = 10 weeks x 3 days/week

(4.6.2020 – 5.8.2020) with MAXIMUM 3 days per
week only = 30 days*

* Duration to complete psychomotor skill (face to face)

5.0 AMENDMENT TO THE CURRENT PROCESS OF IT

Due to the COVID-19 issues, FCE has revised the process of IT to suit with the current situation while
fulfilling the ETAC requirements and at the same time to ensure the safety and health of the students
when conducting IT course.

2
There are three situations that the students undergoing for IT have to face due to COVID-19 issues
which are:

1. Students had been terminated from the current organization due to MCO (refer to Appendix
B).

2. Students still can proceed IT at the current organization and the students have to work from
home (WFH) with Industry Supervisor supervision from 15.4.2020 until 3.6.2020 before the
students resume with MAXIMUM up to three (3) days a week at the office or site on 4.6.2020
until 5.8.2020 (refer to Appendix C).

3. Students still can proceed IT at the current organization but organization do not capable to
assist students in WFH concept. With mutual consent from industry, Faculty Supervisor will
take the responsibility to make WFH with student. Students have to work from home (WFH)
with faculty Supervisor supervision from 15.4.2020 until 3.6.2020 before the students resume
with MAXIMUM up to three (3) days a week at the office or site on 4.6.2020 until 5.8.2020
(refer to Appendix C).

6.0 INDUSTRIAL TRAINING REQUIREMENTS
