Tourism

· Total budget allocated for tourism infrastructure development is Rs.2.68 billion.

Tourism Infrastructure: 9 additional star hotels started operation this fiscal year (total reached
138), 26 additional hotels, lodge and resorts as well (total reached 1151), 115 new travel
agencies registered in fiscal year 2076/77 (total reached 2764), 5 new rafting agencies
registered (total reached 82)

· Visit Nepal Year 2020 will be operated to establish Nepal as an attractive, safe, tranquil and
adventure tourism destination in the world tourism market. Twenty lakhs tourists were expected
to visit Nepal but the visit Nepal year 2020 was cancelled because of covid-19.

· The Rara region will be developed as national tourism destination.

· Alongside promotion of domestic tourism, emphasis will be placed on development of


quality and sustainable tourism. Use of cable cars will be encouraged for tourism, material
transport and as a means of transportation in mountainous and hilly regions.

In the year 2076/77 74 new tour guides were licensed and 1377 new trekking guides were
licensed for their respective jobs

Chapter 10 - Urban Development, Environment and Energy (Grishma)

Urban Development

· Conditional grant under Janata Aawas Program for 39000 houses (4.39 billion
allocated in the budget)

· 805 homes constructed under Surakshit Nagarik Aawas Program

· Road maintenance and construction, busparks and feasibility study of new cities done
under Urban Infrastructure Development Program

· Integrated waste management center in Birgunj and Nepalgunj (20 years life)

Environment and Climate Change (1.5% to 2% loss in GDP annually due to environmental
hazards

· National Climate Change Policy brought into implementation as a part of climate


change adaptation and mitigation program
· Carbon Emission Reduction program implemented in districts carrying out carbon
business
· 3500 tree planted in 937 hc land (increase from 297.27 hc) - Fiscal Year 2019/20
declared as Afforestation Year in the budget announcement
· Air Quality Measurement centers reached to 29, air quality display boards in various
areas around KTM
· Environmental impact of 34 projects evaluated

Energy

● Electricity reach to 90% population (from 88%)


● Karnali Province and Far -Western Province have the least electricity reach (Karnali
Province and Far -Western Province were to be declared as darkness-free provinces
this fiscal year)

· 8% increase in electricity generation i.e. 1251 megawatt to 1355 megawatt (at least
1000 megawatt of additional power to be generated this year as per budget)
· National hydro project – 635 mw, private project – 651 mw
· Decrease in import of hydroelectricity from India by almost 50%
