"The Bigger The Dream, The More Important The Team." This accurately reflects the

status of most of the start-ups across the globe. Organization theory and design is

all about coordinating the structural parts of an organization and then studying it.

I will reflect my experience as an intern for a start-up in India for a company called

'Trooking', an initiative for a venture that aids for booking the best experiences

around the world, in this essay the main objective for me is to apply the theories

taught in the class and make relate them with my experiences of the real world.

According to me, the individual commitment of a coordinated group of people,

putting in considerate efforts and dedicating time to reach a common goal is known

as teamwork- and that is what builds a team, an organization, and a society. In my

case when I was working with Trooking, various events happened which can be

related to most of the concepts that have been taught in the class. There was one

incident that happened which can be related to the concept named “Porter’s

Competitive Strategies”, According to it, there are a total of three competitive

strategies that an organization should follow, which are, Low-cost leadership,

differentiation, and focus. This strategy can be related to most of the organizations

as this gives the organization a competitive advantage and competitive scope. The

start-up in which I worked in was a team of just 10 members and was increasing at a

good pace. With me there were two more interns, we had to handle the social media

handle so the company as well as do some marketing work. When some time
passed over there I noticed that how the manager of that company was following

these competitive strategies, I am sure that the My friend who was the Founder of

this company had studied this somewhere, as now when I have learned about this I

can easily relate most of the activities which happened over there to this. All the

members including us interns were told to go for the selected niche market for all the

operations,

According to me, the individual contribution of a coordinated group of people is

known as teamwork-and that is what creates a team, an organization, and a

community, putting in considerate efforts and dedicating time to achieving a common

objective. In my case, different incidents took place when I collaborated with

Trooking, which can be compared to most of the concepts taught in the class. There

was an instance that can be linked to the term "Porter's Competitive Strategies,"

According to the theory, any organization should adopt a total of 3 strategic

strategies, which are, low-cost leadership, differentiation, and focus. As this gives

the company a competitive advantage and competitive reach, this approach can be

applied to most organizations. The start-up I worked with was a team of just 10

members but was still progressing at a good pace. There were two more interns with

me, designated to handle the social media as well as research on some marketing

activities. I realized that when some time progressed, how the manager of that
company was pursuing these competitive tactics, I am sure that this had been

researched somewhere by my friend who was the founder of this company, as now

when I heard about this, I can easily relate to most of the events that occurred over

there.

Whenever we had any task, the first thing to do was to see how it related to the

specific market the company targets, all the members including us interns were told

to go for the chosen niche market for all the activities. This illustrates how the focus

strategy was implemented because the business was still concentrating on its

primary market. The niche, for instance, was for people 18-25 years of age who love

to travel or travel a lot because of work. So if we had to advertise or run some social

media campaign, we only had to pick this specific niche and then run the campaigns

and promotions. I was enabled to connect to this idea with my personal experience

from the student-run business program, Nobizers dealing in notebooks, and bedside

organizers. To raise our sales, we used to set up stalls at different events. At the

event that will be our target market, the company on the first-hand prospects the

audience and then signs the contract. We set up our 'Meraki' stall, an event at the

college.

Around 95% of the audience were teenagers who were interested in our goods. That

proved to be a successful event, leading to a profit. In addition, a differentiation

strategy can easily be integrated into a start-up as they need to provide something

new and special if someone starts a company to expand, which no one in the

industry does. With the support of this, more and more clients are drawn to it.

Not just that, the main target in Trooking was to be as successful as possible in

achieving low-cost leadership, which means giving their customers the lowest rates,
which helps In generating more demand, the lower the cost, the greater the demand.

And by having a specific selling point that nobody else has, they have also sought to

be different from their rivals. Since most consumers were drawn to the offers and

services provided by the company, this helped them gain a competitive edge.

The sales department would aim to improve the interaction between the customer

and the sales facility or mechanism and or salesperson. Sales management would

break down the selling process and then increase the effectiveness of the discrete

processes as well as the interaction between processes, after that the interns had to

do the promotion work and also had to act as a middleman between the customers

and the supervisors, and the CEO was at the top looking and supervising all the

activities and taking all the important decisions. This shows how the company was

following a proper functional organizational structure. Following this structure was a

good decision according to me as there was only one product that was being offered

and that was a service, it also helped the organization to accomplish its goals in a

very short period of time, everything was really in a proper format. The only

drawback I think it had was that it enabled less employee participation, as we had to

do the tasks given to us and that’s it.

Before putting my pen down, I would like to conclude that according to me the

organization was following most of the principles and strategies that a good

organization should follow, the only thing that I saw as a flaw was less employee

participation, other than that everything was near to perfect. I chose to do this essay

using my experiences as I have lived these and thus can easily relate to all the

concepts that I have been taught.
