As the year 2000-2020 the number of population by million under older persons specially 65+ ages or the senior citizens
in the Philippines are rapidly increasing. By the year 2000 the number of population is 4.57 million while by the year
2020 or this year, the number of population is 9.43 million.

To conclude, as the year goes by the number of aged under older person specially 65+ ages or the senior citizens in the
Philippines is rapidly increasing. The only recommendation that may I suggest are to increase there health assistance of
senior citizen, for instance the health care professionals will go to there houses and check there health status. And also
financial assistance but this one is the only deserve to be given like there children abundant them. This program help
older person here in the Philippines be vulnerable.

Activity 5:
1. Care of the older person today is considerably different that it was 50 years ago. Cite
examples of how and why the care of older person is different today than it was in the past.
- Life expectancy over the past centuries is most striking, we note that the declines in mortality rates for older
people were much more modest. Over the past decade or so, historical studies of aging and especially of old
age have become increasingly popular topics in social history. Older people today are experiencing their
later years in better health than their parents.  For example, although the number of surviving
generations in a family has increased, today these generations are more likely than in the past to live
separately. A public health response must take stock of these current and projected trends, and
frame policies accordingly.

2. When reporting for work, you note that you have been assigned to two 72-year-old women
for the evening. Is it safe to assume that the care of these two women will be similar because
they are the same age? Why or why not? How would their care be enhanced or be
compromised if they were treated similarly?
- No, they are different even though they have the same age. They have different body and they
might have different condition. We must know first there health status before treating them to avoid
mistakes.

3. As student, you are often assigned to care for older person. At what point in your education
do you feel care of the older person should be included? Early in, later in, or throughout your
nursing program? Support your position.
- Of course throughout the nursing program, as a student nurse we give care to those who in need.
To provide health education, care and new possible things that may support the older persons.
Nurses caring for the elderly need to have a positive attitude toward older adults to provide optimal
care.
