Week 2 Welcome Announcement

Welcome to Week 2! This week, you will explore the concepts of fluid and electrolytes, acid and
base balance along with the pulmonary system. Normal pulmonary structure and function will be
presented as well as alterations in pulmonary function in select populations. In addition to the
assigned readings, make sure to explore all of the Week 2 lessons and any recorded
PowerPoint presentations.

The course outcomes for this week are:

 Analyze pathophysiologic mechanisms associated with alterations in pulmonary function,


acid/base balance and fluid and electrolyte balance
 Describe outcomes of disruptive of alterations in pulmonary function, acid/base balance
and fluid and electrolyte balance
 Explore age-specific and developmental alterations in pulmonary function, acid/base
balance and fluid and electrolyte balance
 Relate pathophysiological alterations in pulmonary function, acid/base balance and fluid
and electrolyte balance to the development, diagnosis and treatment of select health
problems.
 Examine current evidence to support the management of patients who present with
alterations in pulmonary function, acid/base balance and fluid and electrolyte balance

This week, there is no formal discussion question. Instead, we will be responding in the Open

quiz due this week by Sunday 11:59 p.m. MT. A study guide is available under the Course
Announcements. Remember that for each quiz, there is only one attempt. By now, you should
have reviewed the Disease Process Assignment Part 1 rubric. This assignment is due by
Sunday, 11:59 p.m. MT this week. Please contact me for questions related to any assignments
