Specific Learning Objectives


At the end of the discussion the students will clearly understand multiculturalism and
five stages of multi-cultural educational development and answer the prepared activity
easily.

I. Subject Matter
a. Topic: Five Stages of Multi-Cultural Educational Development
b. Reference: Beyond Heroes and Holidays: A Practical Guide to K-12 Anti-racist,
Multicultural Education and Staff Development (pp. 118)
c. Materials: Visual aid, books, pentel pen, cartolina, colored paper

II. Procedure
A. Daily Routine
a. Classroom Management
b. Prayer
c. Greetings
d. Checking of attendance
B. Review of previous lesson: Cultural Diversity
C. Motivational: Stan-up game
D. Present the topic through visual aids
E. Analysis: Now we know the five stages of multi-cultural educational development.
Stage 1: Surface
Changing expressions of culture. The acknowledgement of multiple
“norms”. It includes expressions of many cultures in the classroom.

Stage 2: Transitional- Creating a unit of study about a group of


people, that is separated from the main curriculum.
Stage 3: Integration- New units are deeply integrated into course work
including elements of that unit in existing curriculum.
Stage 4: Questioning -Critical questions explored.
Stage 5: Social Change- Curriculum leads to change outside of school.

F. Abstraction: The student would share their opinions about multi-cultural literacy
and five stages of multi-cultural education.
G. Application: The students will group themselves by row (2) and they will share
how multicultural education could improve in their school.
H. Assessment: The student will write on ½ sheet intermediate paper the
importance of each stages and provide examples.
