Working towards perfection

As a joint venture between
Kirloskar Group and Toyota Motor
Corporation, Toyota Kirloskar
Motor Private Limited (TKM)
aims to play a major role in the
development of the automotive
industry and the creation of Mr. H Nakagawa
employment opportunities, not Managing Director
only through its dealer network,
but also through ancillary
industries.

TKM's growth since inception can

be attributed to one simple, yet
important aspect of its business
Mr. Sandeep Singh, Mr. S Tomonaga,
philosophy - "Putting Customer
DMD DMD
First". While managing growth,
TKM has maintained its
commitment to provide quality
products at a reasonable price and
has made every effort to meet
changes in customer needs.

TKM firmly believes that the Mr. Shekar Viswanathan

success of this venture depends on DMD, Commercial
providing high quality products
and services to all valued
customers through the efforts of its
team members.

TKM, along with its dedicated

dealers and suppliers, has adopted
the "Growing Together"
philosophy of its parent company
TMC to create long-term business
growth. In this way, TKM aims to further contribute to progress in the Indian
automotive industry, realise greater employement opportunities for local citizens,
improve the quality of life of the team members and promote robust economic
activity in India.

All Toyota employees are expected to embody these values in their daily work,
including environmental protection activities. To "respect" the environment, we go
to the source to identify and analyse problems ("Genchi Genbutsu"), move forward
to "challenge" conventional ideas and old habits, to improve further ("kaizen")
through "teamwork."
The framework provided by The Toyota Way enables our company to respond to,
among other things, the environmental challenges at various stages of the life-cycle
of a vehicle. These include greenhouse gas emissions, waste reduction, increased
recycling and the banning of hazardous substance use in parts and components.
These challenges will have inevitable consequences for Toyota's organisation and
the Toyota Guiding Principles were established in direct response to the
international initiatives agreed to at the Rio 'Earth Summit.' This summit focussed
on the potential for a clash between trade and environmental rules, and resulted in a
statement of principles about forest management, conservation and sustainable
development.
The Toyota Guiding Principles are a cornerstone of our corporate management
Toyota in India
philosophy. These principles were updated in 1997, to ensure they continue to
provide Toyota with a clear path towards achieving sustainable development.
These principles have been explored and developed in Toyota's Global Vision
Our Vision
2010, adopted in April 2002, which proposes a series of long-term policies on the
theme of "Innovation into the Future." Toyota's Global Vision 2010 guides
management in its response to long-term social changes, combining consideration
for the environment, the benefit to our customers of value-added products and the
encouragement of our employees through shared prosperity and social involvement.
Based on the Guiding Principles, which codify Toyota's business spirit, the Toyota
Earth Charter (adopted in The

Local Community Development
At TKM, every effort is made to contribute to society. A residential school at
Bidadi, reconstructed by Toyota, now houses 75 students, mainly belonging to
backward communities. In the aftermath of the tragic earthquake in Gujarat, TKM
and its dealers played a major role in distributing food, clothing and relief in remote
affected area. TKM also takes a lead role in contributing to the community,
distributing books and bags in local school etc.

Persuing perfection in the workplace

We at TKM, are committed to manufacture
technically advanced products. Toyota has always
believed that best way to serve society is to ensure
the safety and development of employees,
especially those who work on the shop floor.

To realize high quality vehicle production at a

reasonable price, Toyota seeks the best balance
human resources and advanced robot technology.
As technology constantly evolves, employees
improve themselves through daily work and
training programs and, as a result, productivity
increases.

The Toyota Production System (TPS) has achieved

worldwide renown amongst both car makers and
manufacturers of other products. TPS introduced
effective techniques to streamline the production
process, and avoid waste in inventory and employee
time usage. The overall aim is to direct all of the
resources of a production line toward delivering a
top-quality product for the customer.

Often better known through one of its key elements,

the "just-in-time" production philosophy, TPS has
proved its worth as a powerful response to changing
market demands.
It is also a vital force for harmonising and integrating the complexity of making
vehicles.

Leaner production, higher quality

The keystone to the TPS is a vision of production whereby the end product is
literally "pulled" through the system, starting with the raw materials and ending
with the final assembly of the vehicle. As the product is drawn along the
manufacturing line, parts and materials are called up from suppliers only as
necessary.

The vital agents in this process are the line employees, called "team members" in
Toyota plants. By ensuring their full involvement as a team, they can identify new
solutions (kaizen, or continuous improvement), respond to immediate problems in a
standardised way (jidoka, or autonomous defects control), and continually focus
their attention on ensuring that quality and throughput rates are optimised.

The Toyota Production System is now widely accepted as a proven approach to

more resource-effective, environmentally responsible production. By empowering
employees to expose problems as they arise - by stopping the production line in
case of a problem, for instance - the system clearly shows that lasting gains in
productivity and quality are possible.
Technology

Toyota is a world leader in the research and development of advanced automobile

technology. Creating intelligent solutions for today's mobility challenges and taking
responsibility for future generations. That's the mission that motivates Toyota.

Innovation
The quest for innovation is the foundation for Toyota's new technology concepts.
Unconventional ideas need room for creativity and the technologies of the future need
testing in real-life conditions. This is why Toyota develops concept cars such as p.o.d or
FXS. Take a look at Toyota's most recent concept cars and get a first glimpse of the
vehicles which may, one day, satisfy the needs of tomorrow's drivers.

Engines
Engine technology is one of Toyota's greatest assets. Toyota's award-winning engine
range reflects the high design and quality standards set by its engineers. Toyota engines
are developed for performance and responsiveness with a big focus on reducing
emissions and saving fuel. Today Toyota brings these benefits to customers with
advanced variable valve technology (VVT-i) petrol engines, common-rail turbo diesels
(D-4D), and with the unique Toyota Hybrid System (THS).

Safety
Safety is a top priority for Toyota: Advanced steering, braking and traction control
technologies help keep your Toyota on the road and out of trouble. In addition, every new
Toyota model is carefully designed to maximise safety, using computer simulations and
real-life crash tests. The body and chassis are built to absorb impact and provide
maximum occupant protection, whilst SRS airbags in place in case of a collision.
Hopefully you'll never see our safety features in action, but you’ll feel the confidence
every time you sit behind the wheel.

Environment introduction

TKM believes and practices the theory of sustainable development. Our operations are
standardised in a way so as to cause least impact on the environment. TKM had laid greater
stress on Landscaping activities to develop greenary around. The landscaping activites add a
bedight to the company. TKM has undertaken a plantation program wherein 3000 plants were
planted on the boundary.

Environment, Technology & Employment

Toyota is committed to manufacture technically advanced and environment friendly products.
Our plant at Bidadi surrounded by a greenbelt, meets high environmental standards and has also
obtained ISO 14001 certification on 26th April 2001.
Toyota has always believed that the best way to serve society is by providing automobiles that
will not only make people happy, but will also be environment friendly. Wastewater at TKM is
collected and purified to a level that can be used for fish ponds and rice fields.
To realise high quality vehicle production at reasonable prices, Toyota seeks the best balance
between human resources and advanced robot technology. As technology constantly evolves and
employees improve themselves through daily work and training programs, Toyota's production
process improves
Environmental Management
Consolidated Environmental Management System Toyota intends to establish a Consolidated
Environmental Management System. Through that, it is promoting certification under the
international standard ISO14001 for all its subsidiaries.
Corporate Values and Principles
Toyota has established a comprehensive approach to
global environmental issues, resulting in the
development of the "Toyota Earth Charter". It
describes Toyota's Basic Policy and Action
Guidelines. The "Third Toyota Environmental Action
Plan", covering the period 2001 through 2005, is
being implemented. Toyota's consolidated
subsidiaries in Europe and world-wide are preparing
their own action plans, with specific goals and
initiatives.

Environmental Management Systems

In Europe, all Toyota and Lexus cars sold on the European market are produced in plants,
whether in Japan or Europe, that hold the ISO14001 certification. The new production plant in
France received ISO14001 certification in March 2002, Turkey plant in 1999 and Uk plants
already in 1996.

The Marketing and Engineering subsidiary (TMME), successfully obtained the ISO14001
certification in October 2001 NMSCs (National Marketing and Sales Companies) have been
requested to take voluntary actions towards systems implementation, achieving certification in
line with ISO14001 by the end of 2005 at the latest.

Some countries are already forging ahead, such as Sweden, the first Toyota NMSC in the world
to obtain ISO14001 standard in 1998, and Toyota GB, that has been awarded in 2002 a
certification for three international standards (ISO14001 - environment, OHSAS18001- health &
safety, ISO9001 - quality) across all five of it's UK sites.
