In this part to talk about when we use ‘wish’ with structure in past but the meaning is in present.

I wish I were a doctor I were a doctor

The meaning of our wish is in present.
I wish I were a doctor
*Desearia ser un doctor*
Past structure I wish they went to the concert
I were a doctor *Desearía que ellos fueran al concierto*
‘Were’ is past of ‘be’

****But you’ll ask to me, teacher ‘were’ is for plural. We use were with you, we, they. But this is an exception
(similar to the structure of second conditional) in this case you can use were with all the pronouns.

***In this use after ‘wish’ we use past perfect (Subject + had + past participle form of the main verb) to talk
about something had happened differently to our wish****
****But in this case the meaning of the wish is in past****

I wish he hadn't seen that film
Past perfect structure *Ojalá no hubiera visto esa película*
