City of Virginia Beach YBgovcom free oF ne cry Maer wunicea. comer fensssaze ulm | cow aneareasrn: 20 COURTS DAE \WRGOUABEAGH, VRGNA 286 S01 October 16, 2020 The Honorable Robert M. “Bobby” Dyer Mayor of Virginia Beach and City Council Members SUBJECT: State Election Day Holiday Dear Mayor and Council Members: The State of Virginia recently revised its holiday schedule to eliminate Lee-Jackson day as a State holiday. They replaced this holiday with Election Day which, of course, falls on November 3 this year. There are some cities in Hampton Roads that follow the State's holiday schedule (namely Chesapeake, Portsmouth, Suffolk, and Newport News) and will be closed on election day. Hampton, Norfolk, and Virginia Beach do not follow the State holiday schedule and will be open on election day. Our employees are provided with three fiexible holidays they can use at any point during the year. Therefore, some may choose to use a fiexible holiday to provide ample time for voting, wanted to provide you with this information since you may be asked about the City's plans for election day. Please let me know if there are any questions related to this information. Sincerely, \ Pao fatrick A. Duhaney City Manager
