Guide Questions:

1. What are your ideas about counseling?

Counseling is a collaborative effort between the counselor and client. Professional counselors help

clients identify goals and potential solutions to problems which cause emotional turmoil; seek to
improve communication and coping skills; strengthen self-esteem; and promote behavior change
and optimal mental health.

Activity 2: I Need Help, Where Will I Go?

Instruction:

1. If something is bothering about life matters: academics, relationships, family, identity, and financial
concerns, with whom do you share your problem? Will you pursue formal help or a non-formal help?
Why or why not? Explain your answer.

2. Write your answer on the box.

NAME :Ghilmar Cuntapay

I would always, always start with a non-formal help. Someone like a

friend, a family member, a teacher, a priest, or someone you trust
will have your best interests at heart. Why? Because you will
probably get the most honest, heartfelt, sincere, and caring
response you could expect.A formal help is more academic, doesn’t
know you as well (hence might not have the complete picture), and
may require payment, formal meetings and a more analytical and
cold evaluation of your problem.

Having said that, if you have a serious (real) depression, a medical

problem, or something that requires a technical, professional or
specialized support, indubitably go the formal route

less scientific theory and more application than “pure” social science. But in
practice, they can appear to be the same. Social science develops the
tools; applied social science uses them.

H HOW ARE THEY DIFFERENT?

Applied science is a
discipline that used to apply existing scientific knowledge based
on scientific researches and also to developing a practical
application of science such as technology, methodology,
inventions.
Social science is a
