storage area. used will conduct a pre-use check together with the
supervisor of the team that is going to use the boatswains
chair. The pre-use inspection will be recorded on the
prescribed checklist and signed by both parties.

done
The boatswains chair will be transported with telescopic
handler and the boatswains chair will be secured to the
machine by means of tensioning straps to ensure boatswains
chair cannot fall off and get damaged.

FPS010 – Use of mobile crane

Using the Boatswain Boatswains chair. All crane operators must be trained, experienced and certified
with valid DMO licence and Astrum approval.
Crane operator must be appointed according to his training,
experience and certification.
All Riggers must be trained by an Accredited Institution and
certified.

All Certified Riggers are to wear pink hardhats for


identification purposes.
Qualified Riggers must be appointed as per the General
Machinery regulations.
All Lifting Equipment is to be tested and certified by an
Authorised Inspection Authority once a year or when repaired
or modified. This includes all integral parts of the Lifting
equipment e.g. hooks, crane rope etc.

FPS010 – Use of mobile crane and
FPS 002 – Working in elevated position.
The rigger is to place a sling between the chieve wheel and
the crane hook.
All occupants of boatswain boatswains chairs have to be
attached by means of safety harnesses at all times.
A guide rope to be used on the boatswains chair at all times
during operations.

Guide ropes are to be used under the direct instruction of the


rigger.
No employees may be lifted together with material and
equipment, material and equipment must be lifted separately.

Only small equipment/material and hand tools will be hoist


with the boatswains chair.

protection and to ensure that the dedicated slings and
shackles do not get used for other purposes.
