Daily Detox Tips for the Body and Mind


Here is a summary of the first daily steps I plan to take on my quest to detox myself mentally and
physically. Once I feel ready both in body and mind, I plan to take on some new challenges to create a
less stressful and more meaningful lifestyle.
• lemon detox drink
• meditation
• breathing exercises
• foam rolling and stretching
• fresh fruit, dried fruit and nuts to snack on throughout day
• green tea and rooibos tea throughout day
• plenty of water
• at least 1 hour of exercise
• reading
I'm trying to manage these steps despite working full-time in a very demanding role in a secondary
state school and part-time evening and weekends in a leisure centre. Quite a challenge, but already after
only three days I'm feeling more positive in general, and much more motivated and energetic.
The first item on my list is the lemon detox drink. This drink was formulated by Stanley Burroughs,
and is the key component of the Master Cleanse programme (also known as the Lemonade Diet). The
full Master Cleanse is a very radical detox programme lasting three weeks from start to finish. It takes
an awful amount of discipline and resilience to complete and I would recommend it to anyone who is in
the right circumstances to follow it through. With a little research, you can find many variations which
can be followed over varying timescales. However, at this stage in my life, I would be unable to
sustain my demanding job and exercise programme on the Master Cleanse detox.
On the Master Cleanse, the lemon detox is consumed six to twelve times daily, but I drink one glass
soon after rising. In the long run, I feel that beginning the day with this drink can only be
beneficial. Prepare the drink as follows.
Mix each of the following lemonade diet ingredients into a large glass:
• 2 Tablespoons Fresh Lemon Juice. I squeeze the juice of half an unwaxed lemon.
• 2 Tablespoons Rich Maple Syrup. Organic grade B is ideal
• 1/10 Teaspoon Cayenne Pepper Powder – or to taste (as much as you can stand).
• 8 ounces (250 milliliters of Pure Water). I use filtered tap water.
The drink is designed to free the body of chemicals and toxins and is best prepared using good quality
organic ingredients. The health benefits of all the ingredients are diverse. Importantly, the lemon
juice acts as a powerful tonic to the liver as well as providing living enzymes the body needs. The
maple syrup provides many different minerals and vitamins including Zinc, Magnesium, Vitamin B2
and Potassium. The cayenne pepper helps to break up mucus and promotes healthy blood flow.
Anyway, that's the first step of my regime explained. I plan to outline the other components of my
routine and chart my progress in upcoming hubs.
