Journal of Nutrition Revision Checklist

Below are items REQUIRED AT REVISION. Please ensure your submission meets ALL journal format requirements at this stage in peer review or it
will be returned to your Author Center for corrections. See additional information in our Instructions to Authors at
https://academic.oup.com/jn/pages/General_Instructions

General
• Manuscript is uploaded as a Word file (.doc)
• Lines are numbered continuously (not per page) beginning with abstract. Do not number lines of tables, figures or references
• Number pages consecutively in the upper right-hand corner of each page, beginning with the title page
• Define all nonstandard abbreviations and group designations (e.g. CON, HP) used at first mention in the abstract and text. Alphabetically
list and define them on the title page. (note the “title page” can be longer than one page).
• Upload a highlighted version in addition to a clean version of the manuscript file.
• Include a statement in Methods concerning the ethical treatment of animals or participants. Specify the committee and institution that
granted ethical approval

Title Page:
• The title in the Word file matches exactly what is entered into the Editorial Manager System
• All Author names and affiliations match exactly what is entered into the Editorial Manager System
• A corresponding author is identified by name with an email address included
• A short running head of not more than 50 characters (count letters and spaces) is included on the title page of the Word file
• If this a Commentary or Editorial, include a title that does not contain "Commentary on...." or “Editorial on….”
• Conflict of interest information is present, including a statement if there are no conflicts
• Sources of Support. If support is from non-governmental entities, the role of these funders in the design, implementation, analysis and
interpretation of the data should be identified.
• Include clinical trial registration or PROSPERO number, if applicable

Abstract:
• Research Articles must have a structured abstract; see details in the Instructions to Authors
• Review Articles must have an unstructured abstract
• Abstracts are not needed with Editorials/Commentaries/Book Reviews/Biographies
• Include 5-10 key words below the abstract
• Verify that the abstract is a maximum of 300 words.

Tables:
• Move any embedded tables to after references. Tables should not be added to the Word files as images but should be made using the
Insert Table function in Word
• Tables should be sequentially numbered
• Tables should have a title at the top and any definitions/notes/abbreviations below the table body.
• For any tables that are adapted or reproduced from a published source, include (Adapted with permission from reference #) or
(Reproduced with permission from reference #) in a table footnote (not e.g. at the end of the title). Obtain written permission from the
copyright bearer; upload a copy into the manuscript’s queue.
• Alphabetically define nonstandard abbreviations used in a footnote.
Figures:
• Figures should not be embedded in the Word document. Please upload figures as separate high-resolution image files. Acceptable files
include .tiff, .eps, .pdf, pptx. Figures prepared as Word, PNG, or JPEG will not be accepted.
• Make sure that any multi-panel figures (i.e., figures with parts labeled A, B, C, D, etc.) are assembled into one file. Rather than sending
four files (Figure 1A, Figure 1B, Figure 1C, Figure 1D), the four parts should be assembled into one piece and supplied as one file. Label
each panel in the upper left corner, near the graph, using A, B, C, etc. Do not use periods, parentheses, or boxes around the letters.
• For any figures that are adapted or reproduced from a published source, include (Adapted with permission from reference #) or
(Reproduced with permission from reference #) at the end of the figure legend (not e.g. at the end of the title). Obtain written
permission from the copyright bearer; upload a copy into the manuscript’s queue.
• Figure legends should be included after references in the Word file. Please do not add figure legends to the figure files themselves.
• Alphabetically define non-standard abbreviations used at the end of the legend
• Do not upload color image files for figures that are to be printed in black and white or graytone

Acknowledgments:
• An acknowledgments section should contain a statement of authors’ contributions to the manuscript. All manuscripts, including reviews,
must indicate who is responsible for design, writing, and final content and must include a statement affirming that all authors have read
and approved the manuscript. The initials of all authors must be included. State that all authors read and approved the final version.

References:
• References should be listed in citation order with a corresponding in-text Arabic number in parentheses.
• List 10 authors before using et al.

Supplementary Material:
• The first page of the supporting material should have a header which includes the Title and 1st author followed by “Online Supplementary
Material”
• Supplementary data should be uploaded in as few files as possible.
• Supplementary data can be referenced in the main text as “Supplementary” or “Supplemental”. Ex. Supplementary Figure 1 or
Supplemental Figure 1, Supplementary Table 1 or Supplementary Table 1. However please ensure it is consistent throughout.
