With this activity, you are expected to achieve the following learning
outcomes:

To present a clear definition of ESP in an online visual representation tool (mental


map).
The activity consists of:

Task 1. Develop the course topics.

1. Check the topics for Unit 1 and reflect about the definition of ESP. Write your own
definition of this concept in about 150 words. Consider stating what you can add or
delete from the definition given in the study materials. Consider your experience as a
language learner and teacher to propose a definition that is clear and easy to
understand for your classmates.

2. Make a metal map about the evolution or development of ESP in recent years.
Include all the main types of ESP and how this can relate to ELT in general.

3. Considering the current perspectives in teaching ESP, write a short reflection on


the role of technology in teaching English for specific purposes.

4. Share your definition of ESP, reflection and the mental map in the forum at least
10 days before the deadline of the activity to allow interaction with your classmates
and tutor.

- Check the Course Agenda to organize your time.


- Check the Course News for important information.
- Verify the date of the First Web Conference so that you can plan your
participation accordingly.
- Verify your tutors’ synchronous attention by Skype.

In the Learning Environment, you must:

- Check the Course Contents and Bibliographic References for Unit 1: Experiences.
- Go to the discussion forum for the task and actively participate with your
collaborative group.
- Give feedback to your e-mates if necessary.

In the Evaluation Environment, you must:
