COURSE DESCRIPTION
The course is devoted to a study of the detailed contents of the Intellectual Property (IP)
Law, in substantive and procedural aspects. It expounds on the important principles and case
law which should be considered by the law students.
This course examines the subject matter of IP particularly the areas most frequently asked in
the Bar Examinations and with the current trends in IP in the Philippines and the world.
The course will study the state policies, laws, treaties and international agreements, rules and
regulations on intellectual property rights (IPR), namely Copyright and Related Rights;
Trademarks and Service Marks; Patents; Industrial Designs; Layout Designs (Topographies)
of Integrated Circuits; Geographic Indications; and Protection of Undisclosed Information.
It covers basic principles, rules and procedures for the protection of IPR, and the necessary
remedies in case of violations thereof.

Dr. Taton is the Dean of the Graduate School of Law, San Sebastian College-Recoletos-Manila (SSCR) that has six
ongoing LL.M. Consortium programs nationwide. He is a professor at the UST Civil Law, SSC-R Institute of Law,
PUP and UPHD. He is a Mandatory Continuing Legal Education (MCLE) lecturer nationwide on Professional
Legal Writing, Intellectual Property, Alternative Dispute Resolution and International Law. He has degrees in
Bachelor of Arts in Political Science, Bachelor of Laws, Master of Laws and Doctor of Civil Law. He also manages
