ACADEMIC PROJECTS
• As part of course work at Georgia Tech:
o Multithreaded HTTP server and proxy: Developed as a part of the Graduate Introduction to Operating Systems
programming assignments. Also, built RPC server and client to handle computationally intensive tasks. Language: C
o Scheduler coding for GTThreads Library: Coded Credit and Lottery Based Schedulers for GTThreads library, a
preemptive user-level thread package with an API similar to Pthreads. Language: C
o When ‘n’ Where Reminders: Created a handy Android application which provides reminders for saved events and
augments it with Driving Directions from current location to destination using Google Maps. Yelp API is used to provide
recommendations for specific search tags of a certain business. Tools: Android SDK, Google Maps API, Yelp API
o Event Profiler: To provide a statistical assessment of how the occurrence of an event impacts returns on a stock.
Language: Python
• Phurnish (1st Runner up in the Convergence 2010 Competition): Part of team responsible for development of a mobile
application that facilitates purchase of furniture and aids interior design by providing the customers a way to visualize the objects
in their current home environment. The application allows taking pictures, creating models of rooms, saving the model, loading an
already existing model, loading the 3d model of furniture and barcode scanning. Tools: Android SDK, OpenGL
• FBTrends: Front end developer for the hack. The app involved scanning your news feed to study trending topics and generate
tag cloud visualization. Also, search results for a particular tag on your own news feed, Facebook general search and Twitter were
returned to the user for further information.
• EduCare: a multi-functional in-room communication support device and education tool to improve family satisfaction by
enhancing 2-way information flow between doctors and family members. The in-room device is supported by an online platform
that both family members and providers can access. Family members submit questions through the online platform. Doctors
schedule family conference sessions, and before each session they pre-select the questions that will be answered.
• Web based image editing tool: An online application which allows users to upload, resize, crop, apply effects and save
images to disk. Implemented using PHP and XHTML.
• Web design/development: Online portal for college symposium, site design for a memorial foundation.
PUBLICATIONS
• Aleksandar Matic, Priyal Mehta, James M. Rehg, Venet Osmani and Oscar Mayora, "AID-ME: Automatic Identification of
Dressing failures through Monitoring of patients and activity Evaluation" To appear in Proc. 4th International ICST
Conference on Pervasive Computing Technologies for Healthcare, Munich, Germany, Mar 2010.
o Candidate for Best Paper Award (1 of 4 nominated papers)
o Performed clustering of colors for a pair of input images using k-means algorithm followed by spatial analysis to
determine whether the color belongs to the top or the bottom clothing item.
o Developed rule-based inference system in MATLAB to determine whether there is a dressing failure

RELATED EXPERIENCE
• CURRENTLY WORKING ON: Visual Place Categorization (MS Project under Prof. James Rehg; January 2010 – present)

• Research Intern; January 2009 - May 2009

DHIRUBHAI AMBANI INSTITUTE OF INFORMATION AND COMMUNICATION TECHNOLOGY
o Analyzed and researched existing algorithms and mathematical formulations for image retrieval.
o Developed an innovative algorithm to return relevant image results based on shape and color features.
o Coded all functions of the system in MATLAB.
