This summer, Food & Water Watch launched a new
volunteer program in cities across the country. In
FL, our team of volunteers are pushing the City
of Tampa and Hillsborough County to transition
to 100% renewable energy by 2030. And they’re
educating their neighbors on the need for climate
action by writing letters to the editor of the Tampa
Bay Times. They’ve also been networking to get out
the vote and highlight where candidates stand on
climate issues.

fuels our fight to ban fracking, stop fossil fuel
infrastructure and push for 100% renewable energy.

NEW JERSEY
Food & Water Watch is fighting 12 new fossil fuel
projects across NJ, including pipelines, power plants,
and a massive Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) export
terminal. We’ve focused on stopping NJ Transit’s
proposed fracked gas power plant in Kearny, a long-
exploited community. We’ve organized and led a
coalition of 60 organizations and won support from
residents, municipalities, and state legislators.
In September, we secured a major victory against
the Delaware River LNG export terminal! After we
delivered more than 70,000 petition signatures,
regional governors halted the project. You made this
win possible.
NEW YORK
This spring, we stopped the Williams fracked gas
pipeline under NY Harbor for good! Our campaign
persuaded Governor Cuomo to issue a final rejection
of the project.
Next, we advanced our fight against fracking by
stopping oil and gas waste from coming into New
York. Over the summer, the NY legislature closed
a legal loophole that prevented waste from being
treated as hazardous material. This win is the direct
result of our aggressive and persistent organizing
campaign.
PENNSYLVANIA
In Southwestern PA, we’re organizing to pass
ordinances to ban fracking in communities
throughout Allegheny County. For example, in
June, the East Pittsburgh Borough Council voted
unanimously to restrict natural gas development.
And in Southeastern PA, we’re winning our fight
against the dangerous Mariner East Pipeline! After
a recent spill caused by Sunoco’s negligence, we
launched a rapid response campaign to organize
residents and shutdown this project. Sunoco was
ordered to reroute the pipeline; we now have the
opportunity to ensure new easements are rejected.
We’re poised to deal a devastating blow to Sunoco’s
ability to move forward.
VIRGINIA
Your support delayed new fracked gas infrastructure
in VA, including three new pipelines and
compressor stations! Your support educated
residents, generated calls to VA Governor Ralph
Northam, and pressured state legislators to demand
permits be denied. In June, the state did just that —
at least temporarily.
We know fossil fuel corporations will continue to
try to build more fossil fuel projects in VA unless
residents demand an alternative. That’s why we’ve
worked with state legislators to introduce the
Green New Deal Act, which calls for 100% clean,
renewable energy by 2030 and an end to new
fossil fuel projects.
WATER FOR ALL
Food & Water Watch fights to ensure access to
safe, affordable water for all.
This spring, when NY was a pandemic epicenter,
Governor Cuomo ignored calls to ban water
shutoffs. Thanks to your persistence, we pushed
harder. Together, we moved the NY Legislature
to pass, and Governor Cuomo to sign, a bill
banning utility shutoffs until March 2021! Just
this month, Governor Murphy of NJ issued an
executive order that extends the utility shutoff
moratorium instituted in response to COVID-19
until March 2021—the strongest executive order
in the country. Our team in NJ played a critical
role in pushing the governor on this issue.
Thanks to you, we won real water protections
when it mattered most.
We’re still fighting for water rights in MD and
PA. In Baltimore, we’re ensuring the water
affordability program passed last year gets
implemented quickly. And your generosity drove
calls and petitions which delayed a scheduled
10% water rate increase! You kept water rates
down at a time when people are struggling.
