THE REMEDY FOR SIN

READING: Rom 5:6-21

6 For when we were yet without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly.
7 For scarcely for a righteous man will one die: yet peradventure for a good man some would even dare to die.
8 But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.
9 Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him.
10 For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, being
reconciled, we shall be saved by his life.
11 And not only so, but we also joy in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom we have now received the
atonement.
12 Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all
men, for that all have sinned:
13(For until the law sin was in the world: but sin is not imputed when there is no law.
14 Nevertheless death reigned from Adam to Moses, even over them that had not sinned after the similitude of
Adam's transgression, who is the figure of him that was to come.
15 But not as the offence, so also is the free gift. For if through the offence of one many be dead, much more
the grace of God, and the gift by grace, which is by one man, Jesus Christ, hath abounded unto many.
16 And not as it was by one that sinned, so is the gift: for the judgment was by one to condemnation, but the
free gift is of many offences unto justification.
17 For if by one man's offence death reigned by one; much more they which receive abundance of grace and of
the gift of righteousness shall reign in life by one, Jesus Christ.)
18 Therefore as by the offence of one judgment came upon all men to condemnation; even so by the
righteousness of one the free gift came upon all men unto justification of life.
19 For as by one man's disobedience many were made sinners, so by the obedience of one shall many be
made righteous.
20 Moreover the law entered, that the offence might abound. But where sin abounded, grace did much more
abound:
21 That as sin hath reigned unto death, even so might grace reign through righteousness unto eternal life
by Jesus Christ our Lord.

I. THE BIBLE TEACHES THAT GOD HAS PROVIDED A REMEDY FOR OUR SINS.
A. Jesus Christ, the Son of God is the only way out of sin.
1. John 14:6 Jesus saith unto him [Thomas], I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh
unto the Father, but by me.

2. Rom 5:9 Much more then, being now justified by His blood, we shall be saved from wrath
through Him.

3. Eph 1:7-8 In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to
the riches of his grace; Wherein he hath abounded toward us in all wisdom and prudence;

B. Jesus Christ can save us only through our complete obedience.

1. Heb 5:8-9 Though He were a Son, yet learned He obedience by the things which He suffered; And
being made perfect, He became the author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey Him;

2. Matt 7:21 Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but
he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.

3. Gal 3:26-27 For ye are all the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus. For as many of you as have
been baptized into Christ have put on Christ.

II. THE BIBLE TEACHES HOW TO APPLY THE REMEDY FOR SIN.
A. We must believe in Jesus Christ as the Son of God.
1. John 8:24 I said therefore unto you, that ye shall die in your sins: for if ye believe not that I am he,
ye shall die in your sins.

2. Heb 11:6 But without faith it is impossible to please Him: for he that cometh to God must believe
that He is, and that He is a rewarder of them that diligently seek Him.

3. John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that He gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever
believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

4. John 20:30-31 And many other signs truly did Jesus in the presence of his disciples, which are not
written in this book: But these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of
God; and that believing ye might have life through His name.

B. We must repent of our sins.

1. Acts 17:30-31 And the times of this ignorance God winked at; but now commandeth all men every
where to repent: Because He hath appointed a day, in the which He will judge the world in
righteousness by that Man whom He hath ordained; whereof He hath given assurance unto all men, in
that He hath raised Him from the dead.

2. 2 Peter 3:9-10 The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some men count slackness; but is
longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance. But
the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a
great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein
shall be burned up.

C. We must confess Jesus Christ as the Son of God.

1. Rom 10:9-10 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine
heart that God hath raised Him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth
unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.

2. Acts 8:34-38 And the eunuch answered Philip, and said, I pray thee, of whom speaketh the prophet
this? of himself, or of some other man? Then Philip opened his mouth, and began at the same scripture,
and preached unto him Jesus. And as they went on their way, they came unto a certain water: and the
eunuch said, See, here is water; what doth hinder me to be baptized? And Philip said, If thou believest
with all thine heart, thou mayest. And he answered and said, I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of
God. And he commanded the chariot to stand still: and they went down both into the water, both Philip
and the eunuch; and he baptized him.

D. We must be immersed in water for the remission of sins.

1. Acts 2:38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus
Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.

2. 1 Peter 3:21 The like figure whereunto even baptism doth also now save us (not the putting away of
the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God,) by the resurrection of Jesus
Christ:

3. Rom 6:3-4 Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his
death? Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from
the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.
2
4. Matt 28:18-20 And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven
and in earth. Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and
of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have
commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.

III. Now we belong to God.

A. We must continue to faithfully serve God..
1. Acts 14:21-22 And when they had preached the gospel to that city, and had taught many, they
returned again to Lystra, and to Iconium, and Antioch, Confirming the souls of the disciples, and
exhorting them to continue in the faith, and that we must through much tribulation enter into the
kingdom of God.

2. Heb 3:1-6 Wherefore, holy brethren, partakers of the heavenly calling, consider the Apostle and
High Priest of our profession, Christ Jesus; Who was faithful to him that appointed him, as also Moses
was faithful in all his house. For this man was counted worthy of more glory than Moses, inasmuch as
he who hath builded the house hath more honour than the house. For every house is builded by some
man; but he that built all things is God. And Moses verily was faithful in all his house, as a servant, for
a testimony of those things which were to be spoken after; But Christ as a son over his own house;
whose house are we, if we hold fast the confidence and the rejoicing of the hope firm unto the end.

3. Rev 2:10 Fear none of those things which thou shalt suffer: behold, the devil shall cast some of you
into prison, that ye may be tried; and ye shall have tribulation ten days: be thou faithful unto death, and I
will give thee a crown of life.

Acts 22:16 And now why tarriest thou? arise, and be baptized, and wash away thy sins, calling on the
name of the Lord.
