TM4
For-and-against essay

In addition, many people feel reading is a relaxing
and worthwhile activity.
know, Nobody does this, It is impossible to disagree with me и другие.
In my view, It seems to me that, In my opinion, I tend to believe, etc.
Children assume/regard
All children assume/regard that, People say/believe/consider вместо
Everybody believes that, etc.
It seems that, I therefore feel, etc. Everybody hates, It is absurd to
believe, etc.
Even though, On the other hand, Yet,
Therefore, Although, However etc.
First, Then, finally, etc.
Police officials believe that, The
government claims that, etc.
Excessive intake of alcohol can damage the liver.
Since the old days, This topic has been important since
ancient times, etc.

51

I think, I believe, In my opinion, From my point of view могут

REPORTED SPEECH (Косвенная речь)

100
(Helen said, “I’m having a party” → Helen said she was having a party.)
Past Simple (told, said),
DIRECT SPEECH (Прямая речь) REPORTED SPEECH (Косвенная речь)
Present Simple → Past Simple
“I want to learn Japanese.” She said (that) she wanted to learn Japanese.
Present Continuous → Past Continuous
“We are watching a film.” They said (that) they were watching a film.
Present Perfect → Past Perfect
“I have brushed my teeth.” She said (that) she had brushed her teeth.
Past Simple → Past Simple / Past Perfect
She said (that) she mowed / had mowed the
“I mowed the lawn.”
lawn.
Past Continuous → Past Continuous/ Past Perfect Continuous
She said (that) he was playing / had been
“He was playing the piano.”
playing the piano.
Will → would
“I will meet you at 7. 00.” She said (that) she would meet me at 7.00.

 REPORTED QUESTIONS (вопросы)

вопросительного слова (who, when, where, why…), следует прямой порядок слов.
(“Where are you from?”, she asked. → She asked me where I was from.)
(He asked, “Do you want a ride to
school?” → He asked me if/whether I wanted a ride to school)

 INDIRECT QUESTIONS (косвенные вопросы)

Could you tell me…?, Do
you know…?, I wonder …, I want to know …, I doubt …, и т.п.
(“Where is the library?” → Do you know where the library is?)

 REPORTED COMMANDS AND ORDERS (команды и приказы)

order, advise, tell) + sb + (not) to-infinitive. (“Be patient!” she said to me. → She told me to
be patient. / “Don’t go!” he said to her. → He ordered her not to go.)

TM4
OPINION ESSAY (эссе, выражающее свое мнение)
