WRITING ASSIGNMENT # 2

As stated by Dr. Maulana Karenga in his position statement entitled “Social

Solidarity In Spite of Social Distancing: Keeping Our Closeness in Critical
Times,” in the Los Angeles Sentinel, 03-19-20, p. A6:
“There is no real or rational denying of the damage and disruption the coronavirus
has done and is continuously doing to our lives and livelihoods, our health and
happiness, our meetings and modes of education, our public and private events,
travel, and the economy. This deadly and disabling virus has also impacted our
family gatherings and visits to each other’s homes and each other in the hospitals,
nursing homes, and elsewhere, as well as our places and ways of worship. In a
word, it has closed down and narrowed the spaces for our relation-building,
renewal, work, recreation, relaxation, grounding, and the goodness that comes
from just being together.”

Never before in our lifetime has the world experienced such social upheaval. So
much of what we did in our daily lives is now gone, perhaps never to return.
Collectively, we have lost normalcy. Many of us wonder, will we ever get back to
normal.

The irony of this pandemic is that is has served as an equalizer. Regardless of your
economic status, the coronavirus has rendered us all equal. Whatever your race,
creed, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, marital status, age, the coronavirus is
non-respective of any of these.

In no less than five to seven, double-spaced typed pages, ApA, 12 front, Times
Roman . Please respond to the following questions:

1. How did this happen?

2. Did our government take the necessary steps to limit the pandemic’s
devastating impact on our lives?
3. What group or class of people do you believe the coronavirus will be the
most detrimental?
4. How has the coronavirus impacted your life? (what changes has be made
personally)
5. What do you envision our future to be, after the pandemic? ( how will
people react when this is over, moreover how will you see society and going
back into the world as we know it or the new norm and how much changes
will this bring)
